A Study of Managerial Competencies Training Needs for the Executives - Take Company A for an Example

Lee, Chin-Hsing 13 June 2001 (has links)
To enhance the managerial competencies of an enterprise has become one of the most important factors to advance its competitive capacity in addition to the prices and quality of products. For an enterprise, the executives¡¦ managerial competencies are essential to its continuous development. There are two intentions of this research. First, to acquire the factors that will effect the managerial competencies of the executives and the required managerial competencies of an individual or organization. Second, to investigate the appropriate managerial competencies training needs according to the personal characters in order to shorten the training period and reduce the training cost in response to the competition of this electrical age. Through the researches of documents, cases, assessments of managerial abilities and questionnaires, I found that the assessment could illustrate the differences of executives¡¦ managerial competencies. An enterprise needs to train its personnel according to individual preferences and the firm¡¦s weakness to avoid wasting training resources. As to the training needs of executives¡¦ managerial competencies, the best methodology is to strengthen the weaknesses and adopt the training methods as ¡§Case Studies¡¨, ¡§Simulation and Practice of role-play¡¨, and ¡§Group Discussion¡¨. Regarding the abilities of administration, communication, supervisory, and cognition, the training would be better with ¡§Lessons-Giving Pedagogy¡¨. Besides, it is necessary to adopt appropriate methodology according to the training of a certain managerial competencies. ¡§Intranet Learning Methodology¡¨ is a trend of current times. It is revealed in the research that the younger executives usually more acknowledge its training effects. The best training methodology could not satisfy everyone. According to the analysis of training requirements, the effect of several well-evaluated training methods actually varies according to several personal characteristics such as their expertise, positions, seniority, education, or ages. The best training efficiency should be based on the consideration of these individual features when designing the training. ¡§The most important administrative policy is to use the right person for the right position.¡¨ This research possesses practical values on the education of enterprises¡¦ executives and the innovation of training modes. Its extensive application will be helpful to develop the executives¡¦ managerial competencies of the enterprises.

Program evaluation: marriage and family therapy programs' multicultural competency

Culver, Rebecca E. January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Family Studies and Human Services / Joyce Baptist / The purpose of the current study is to examine what factors contribute to how marriage and family therapy (MFT) programs address multicultural competency training and to understand the support mechanisms of the training process. A sequential explanatory mixed-method design was utilized to evaluate MFT training programs. First, a Multicultural Survey, adapted from the Multicultural Competency Checklist (Ponterotto, Alexander, & Griegor, 1995), was used to gain a preliminary understanding of the masters MFT field regarding multitcultural competency training. Out of the 70 MFT program directors contacted, 39 program directors or program representatives responded to the survey (55.71% response). Qualitative interviews from 8 participants (program directors, n = 7; program representative, n = 1) representing each geographical region (Northeast, n = 2; South, n = 2; Midwest, n = 2; West, n = 2) were used to examine programs’ multicultural competency training content, program context and training processes. Five themes emerged from the data: 1) internal program dynamic, 2) external program factors, 3) stakeholders, 4) faculty recruitment, and 5) cross-program collaboration. General systems theory, process theory and the logic model were utilized to conceptualize the results (Kellogg, 2004; Rossi, Lipsey, & Freeman, 2004; White & Klein, 2002).

The Relationship Between Multicultural Competency Training and Self-Efficacy in School Counselors-in-Training: Understanding of Social Class and Classism Competency Training

Pietrantoni, Zachary 01 May 2016 (has links)
Hernandez (2013) claimed that the economic landscape in the United States of American (U.S.) has changed over the last decade, increasing the number of children of low social class standing. Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ; 2011) noted that an achievement gap exists between children of low social class standing and their middle and upper social class standing peers. School counselors and school counselor-in-training (SCITs) serve as advocates to address systemic barriers impeding academic, career, and personal/social success of all students (American School Counselor Association; ASCA, 2012; CSJ, 2011; Erford, 2011). Therefore, the need to understand school counselors’ and SCITs’ multicultural self-efficacy is imperative (Holcomb-McCoy, Harris, Hines, & Johnston, 2008). ASCA and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP, 2016; 2009) provide standards and guidelines for training school counselors to address issues of social class and classism. The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between SCITs multicultural competency training and their self-efficacy in social class and classism training regardless of race/ethnicity and gender. This quantitative study consisted of 169 SCITs from CACREP and non-CACREP school counselor programs across the five Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) regions. The survey used in this study contained modified versions of the Multicultural Counseling Competence and Training Survey-Revised (School Counselor Version) (MCCTS-R; Holcomb-McCoy & Day-Vines, 2004); the School Counselor Self-Efficacy Scale (SCSE; Bodenhorn & Skaggs, 2005); the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding (BIDR; Paulhus, 1984); and a social class and classism training questionnaire and demographic questionnaire developed for the purposes of this study. Results from this study indicated program accreditation status (i.e., CACREP and non-CACREP) does not appear to influence multicultural competence or self-efficacy, but non-CACREP status did seem to increase perceived social class and classism training competence. In addition, results suggested low social class standing appeared to negatively influence perceived multicultural competency, self-efficacy, and social class and classism training more so than middle or upper social class groups. The number of multicultural competency courses and training level were consistent significant predictors in perceived multicultural competency, self-efficacy, and social class and classism training. However, region did not appear to influence perceived multicultural competency, self-efficacy, or social class and classism training. Finally, this study found a moderate, positive relationship between perceived multicultural competency and self-efficacy regarding social class and classism training. Implications from this study supported previous research (i.e., Constantine, 2001b; Constantine & Yeh, 2001; Holcomb-McCoy, 2005, 2001; Holcomb-McCoy, Gonzalez, & Johnston, 2009; Holcomb-McCoy & Myers, 1999; Larson, Suzuki, Gillespie, Potenza, Bechtel, & Toulouse, 1992) that the number of multicultural competency training courses, training level, and counseling experiences increased perceived multicultural competence and self-efficacy in social class and classism training. Therefore, SCITs should experience social class issues early and often in training through role-plays and modeling to improve the multicultural self-efficacy in social class and classism training (Cartwright, Daniels, & Zhang, 2008; Owen, Bodenhorn, & Bryant, 2010).

Retention in Nursing Programs: Factors Contributing to the Success of ESL Students

Mbulu, Patience Jegbefu 01 January 2015 (has links)
The problem addressed in this project is the high attrition rate among English as Second Language (ESL) students in a local community college associate degree nursing program. If the retention problem is addressed, the increase in the number of ESL nursing student graduates could result in a more diverse nursing workforce, reflecting the diversity of the community. The purpose of this study was to examine student and faculty views regarding factors that contribute to the academic success and retention of ESL students. To that end, a qualitative case study approach was used, guided by the theoretical frameworks of Cummins's contextual interaction theory and Freire's and Mezirow's transformational learning theory. By using purposeful sampling, 8 ESL students and 5 faculty members were interviewed in both structured and unstructured interviews. The data were decoded using Nvivo computer software to establish themes and categories for analysis. The themes pointed to faculty lacking: (a) cultural awareness and sensitivity, (b) knowledge of the academic needs of ESL students, (c) knowledge of teaching strategies to accommodate the learning of ESL students, and (d) skills to prepare ESL students for what to expect. The findings led to creating a professional development workshop for faculty and led to recommending that the director and dean of the nursing program make it mandatory for faculty to continue their education on skills to improve academic success of ESL students. The findings suggest administrators should make cultural awareness competency compulsory. These efforts and faculty training may result in broader positive social change for ESL students and faculty, administrators, and the community, improving the number of graduating nurses to serve a diverse patient population.

Osobnostní a sociální výcvik u žáků II. stupně ZŠ / The Personality and Social Competency Training for Upper Elementary School Children

STUDNIČKOVÁ, Milena January 2010 (has links)
The thesis deals with the issue of personal and social training of the second grade elementary school students. The first part considers basic terms which are somehow related to the topic. The practical part of the thesis includes a research which aims to examine the way personal and social studies are taught in the lessons at elementary schools, mainly with the second-graders. This part of the thesis shows the research results which aimed to investigate how the teachers are working with a cross-sectional topic of personal and social training and on a basis of which method they integrate this research into a process of teaching. The task was to find out if the teachers were integrating this topic intentionally or if the topic was used only accidentally in case it was somehow close to the topics of lessons. Another method used for surveying the issue was a direct observation and dialogues with the teachers.
