世界飛機租賃興起於一九六O年代，其型式主要包括融資性租賃和營業性租賃兩大類，而融資性租賃乃是國際飛機租賃的主流，亦是本論文所欲探討的主題。在世界噴射引擎客機機隊中，以飛機租賃的比例平均為51%；北美洲的比例為62%，歐洲為46%，而亞洲只有27%。隨著經濟的蓬的空中旅遊市場成長迅速，而飛機租賃市場卻不甚完備充份說明了共，台灣亦是付之闕如，此正待各界的努力以達成。由於國內學者對於飛機租賃相關的探討文章甚少，目前正值政府積極推動亞太營運中心之際，如國內航空公司能對飛機租賃的特性及方式稍作了解，必可解決更新機隊時時自籌資金不足的問題。
