Modelling Resource Configurations in Ict-Enabled Service SystemsXiao, Daoyang 07 October 2019 (has links)
Telehealth, the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) to support care delivery at a distance, is increasingly used in health systems worldwide. A service system is defined as a configuration of people, technologies, and other resources that interact with other service systems to create mutual value. Adopting a service system perspective thus allows understanding a telehealth service as an ICT-enabled service system.
Adequately configuring resources, both tangible (e.g., hardware) and intangible (e.g., knowledge), is key to co-creating value through service systems. However, existing service system engineering methods and tools are not yet able to comprehensively capture the nature, role, and status of resources within service systems. In particular, while conceptual modelling is recognized as an excellent tool of understanding, designing, and monitoring for service engineering, existing conceptual modelling notations have limited abilities to express configurations of resources.
In order to address this gap, the following research objectives are proposed: 1) Develop a conceptual framework of resource configurations as the basis for further developing a metamodel of resource configurations; 2) Develop a metamodel of resource configurations in ICT-enabled service systems that can formally express the constructs, relationships, and constraints within the domain of resource configurations; 3) Demonstrate and evaluate the metamodel by conducting a multiple-case study in the field of telehealth. This study will focus on telehealth as a representative instance of ICT-enabled service systems.
The research design is guided by the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM). DSRM provides a well-structured process for developing and evaluating information systems artifacts, such as the proposed metamodel, that can solve practical problems while contributing to a knowledge base. A multiple-case study of telehealth services at a Canadian hospital will support the evaluation and refinement of the metamodel.
The results of this research project include both conceptual and practical contributions. The metamodel of resource configurations derived from the reviewed literature and conceptual framework will provide a formal understanding of resource configurations in ICT-enabled service systems. The metamodel may also be adopted as a tool for professionals to capture and analyze resource configurations in the domain of ICT-enabled services such as telehealth.

Ontológia vo filozofii a informatike / Ontology in philosophy and informaticsMurín, Jozef January 2008 (has links)
This thesis offers in introduction into ontology in philosophy and informatics. In philosophy, ontology is the study of the most general features of reality. In the field of Informatics the term ontology is starting to be used more often and numerous "ontological approaches" have been proposed recently. In the chapter about ontology in philosophy the meaning is explained on the background of history of philosophy. There generally three meanings of ontology: as a theoretical discipline, as a theory about the structure of reality and as a concrete artefact. It is argued that every science needs a sound ontological base and that the need for ontology increases in times of scientific discovery. The aim of the chapter about ontology in informatics is to show the need and application possibilities for an ontological approach in conceptual modelling, domain engineering and in the area of semantic web. In the end there is a discussion of the terminological confusion about ontology in informatics.

Adaptação em um curso na web usando workflow / Adaptation in a course in the web using workflowNicolao, Mariano January 2004 (has links)
The use of the Web with educational and training objectives may be identified as one of the great research and application areas of computer science today. The workflow technology will be able to contribute decisively for the quality of the Web courses, allowing the information to be presented in interactive way leading the apprentice to a dynamic attitude, transforming the content management into an active element that manipulates the resources in the desired sequence and speed, contributing for a more efficient learning. The use of dynamic workflows associated the agent technology supplies the potential of a nonlinear navigation, where the user takes profit of system flexibility to determine the flow of presentation of the information, not tied with a sequential chain of contents or a hierarchical structure as they have being constructed. In this context, the present work, develop a student model specified through a workflow model. This model was reached by the analysis of the interactions of a sample of students in a Web course. The Cognitive Theory of the Styles of Learning and the order of execution of the activities of the course for the students have being considered in the model development. The purpose of this workflow modelling was to contribute in the development of a comprehensive model of activities execution, coordination, monitoring and adaptation in courses in the Internet.

Evaluating ARCADIA/Capella vs. OOSEM/SysML for System Architecture DevelopmentShashank Pramod Alai (6861410) 12 August 2019 (has links)
Systems Engineering is catching pace in many segments of product manufacturing industries. Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is the formalized application of modeling to perform systems engineering activities. In order to effectively utilize the complete potential of MBSE, a methodology consisting of appropriate processes, methods and tools is a key necessity. In the last decade, several MBSE projects have been implemented in industries varying from aerospace and defense to automotive, healthcare and transportation. The Systems Modeling Language (SysML) standard has been a key enabler of these projects at many companies. Although SysML is capable of providing a rich representation of any system through various viewpoints, the journey towards adopting SysML to realize the true potential of MBSE has been a challenge. Among all, one of the common roadblocks faced by systems engineers across industries has been the software engineering-based nature of SysML which leads to difficulties in grasping the modeling concepts for people that do not possess a software engineering background. As a consequence, developing a system (or a system of systems) architecture model using SysML has been a challenging task for many engineers even after a decade of its inception and multiple successive iterations of the language specification. Being a modeling language, SysML is method-agnostic, but its associated limitations outweigh the advantages. ARCADIA (Architecture Analysis and Design Integrated Approach) is a systems and software architecture engineering method based on architecture-centric and model-based engineering activities. If applied properly, ARCADIA allows for a very effective way to model the architecture of multi-domain systems, and overcome many of the limitations faced in traditional SysML implementation. This thesis evaluates the architecture development capabilities of ARCADIA/Capella versus SysML following the Object-Oriented Systems Engineering Method (OOSEM). The study focuses on the key equivalences and differences between the two MBSE solutions from a model development perspective and provides several criteria to evaluate their effectiveness for architecture development using a conceptual case of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). The evaluation is based on three perspectives namely, architecture quality, ability to support key process deliverables, and the overall methodology. Towards this end, an industry-wide survey of MBSE practitioners and thought leaders was conducted to identify several concerns in using models but also to validate the results of the study. The case study demonstrates how the ARCADIA/Capella approach addresses several challenges that are currently faced in SysML implementation. From a process point of view, ARCADIA/Capella and SysML equally support the provision of the key deliverable artifacts required in the systems engineering process. However, the candidate architectures developed using the two approaches show a considerable difference in various aspects such as the mapping of the form to function, creating functional architectures, etc. The ARCADIA/Capella approach allows to develop a ‘good’ system architecture representation efficiently and intuitively. The study also provides answers to several useful criteria pertaining to the overall candidate methodologies while serving as a practitioner’s reference in selecting the most suitable approach.
