Controle de dose em transporte rodoviário de material radioativo / Dose control in road transport of radioactive material

Eduardo Gerulis 05 December 2013 (has links)
The radiation doses to workers in the transport of radioactive material should be as low as reasonably achievable. The average doses of drivers and loaders, sampled in this thesis should be decreased. The demonstration of doses control in a road vehicle with radioactive material required by the current Brazilian regulation, CNEN NE 5.01 should be written in its own printed form with exposure values obtained in normally occupied positions from workers and members of the public, even when the consignment does not need \"exclusive use\" (∑ IT 50). Through bibliographic research, modeling and field research, this research work shows that this demonstration of the control should be done by writing the registration accumulation of load, limited (∑ IT 50), also in the own printed form. It is for a better control method, in order to avoid the use of measuring equipment, to build standardization with foreign regulations, to the current occupational doses of radioprotection technicians, the costs and time, (important for consignment with radiopharmaceuticals short half-life) would be all smaller. Exposure values of the parameters used with this method are smaller than regulatory limits. The segregation distances between loads and the cabins of vehicles shall be showed by Brazilian regulation updated to contribute to these aims.

Factors that may obstruct proper project management functioning at the Epping branch, Cape Town, of African Oxygen Limited (Afrox)

Brand, Sharon Lee 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This research study report takes place in a business setting, namely the new system implementation for consignment distributors supplied by the Epping branch of Afrox. Various signs of problems within the management of this project were observed, and this has led to research into those factors that may be obstructing proper project management at Epping, Afrox. The aim of the study is to gain understanding of these factors and to provide recommendations to the decision-makers in the organization. The author draws on a stream of research in order to identify those factors that in theory inhibit proper project management. Fourteen factors were identified, namely, business strategy; performance management system; communication; continuous improvement; customer focus; leadership; monitoring, control and measurement; motivation; organizational behaviour; risks; resources; skills; specifications and teamwork. These factors form the basis for the development of a structured questionnaire, and responses were received from a sample of employees in various departments at the Epping branch. The numeric data from the responses was analyzed through the descriptive statistical technique of describing the population proportion. The findings from the empirical study reveal that none of the factors identified and tested to be statically significant in obstructing proper project management. The overwhelming success of engineering projects and other information technology projects may have influenced the results. However, pressures may exist in the project management areas of performance management, continuous improvement, organizational behaviour and skills, as these factors received the least favourable responses from the sample group. It is concluded that opportunities exist, based on this primary research study, for further and more in-depth research. Recommendations are made to repeat the study by delimiting the population to only those employees assigned to and stakeholders affected by the consignment distributor new system roll out. Alternatively, a recommendation is made to conduct further research into those areas that may be under pressure in project management by means of personal interviews or through a second empirical survey focused on performance management, continuous improvement, organizational behaviour and skills.

THREE ESSAYS ON VENDOR MANAGED INVENTORY IN SUPPLY CHAINS

Gumus, Mehmet January 2006 (has links)
Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), Consignment Inventory (CI) and a combination of both (C&VMI) are supply-chain sourcing agreements between a vendor and customer. VMI allows the vendor to initiate orders on behalf of the customer. In CI, the customer pays for the goods supplied by the vendor only upon use. The vendor under C&VMI decides customer-replenishments, and owns the goods replenished until they are deployed by the customer. Our thesis studies these agreements in three essays.

The first essay considers a vendor V that manufactures a particular product at a unique location. That item is sold to a single retailer, the customer C. Three cases are treated in detail: Independent decision making (no agreement between the parties); VMI, whereby the supplier V initiates orders on behalf of C; and Central decision making (both Vendor and Customer are controlled by the same corporate entity).

Values of some cost parameters may vary between the three cases, and each case may cause a different actor to be responsible for particular expenses. Under a constant demand rate, optimal solutions are obtained analytically for the customer's order quantity, the vendor's production quantity, hence the parties' individual and total costs in the three cases. Inequalities are obtained to delineate those situations in which VMI is beneficial.

The problem setting in the second essay is the same with that of Essay 1, but the sourcing agreements investigated are now CI and C&VMI. In CI, as in the usual independent-sourcing approach, the customer has authority over the timing and quantity of replenishments. CI seems to favour the customer because, in addition, he pays for the goods only upon use. Under a C&VMI agreement, the vendor still owns the goods at the customer's premises, but at least can determine how much to store there.

The second essay thus contrasts the cases CI and C&VMI, and compares each of them to a no-agreement case. General conditions under which those cases create benefits for the vendor, the customer and the whole chain are determined.

Essay 3 investigates VMI and C&VMI separately for a vendor and multiple customers who face time-varying, but deterministic demand for a single product. In any of those agreements, the vendor seeks the best set of customers to achieve economies of scale. MIP models are developed to find that set of customers, and to determine the vendor's optimal production, transportation, and customer-replenishment quantities. The model for VMI is solved using a heuristic that produces two sub-models, and uses hierarchical solution approach for production, customer-replenishment and transportation decisions. C&VMI model is solved using Lagrangian relaxation. Various numerical examples are used to test the solution approaches used.

In the mean time, the customers can guarantee to be no worse off under VMI or C&VMI than the no-agreement case by setting the right levels of maximum inventory. A model to determine those levels and a solution algorithm are also proposed in Essay 3.

The first two essays can help a vendor or customer in a supply chain to determine the least costly sourcing option, which depends on the relative values of various cost parameters. A vendor with multiple customers can make use of the results in the third essay, which reveal the best possible economies of scale under VMI or C&VMI. Those customers can guarantee to be no worse of than traditional sourcing when they set the proposed levels of maximum inventory.
