A grounded theory study of the issues and challenges that impact on transplant coordinators and their practice.

Kelly, Mary Johanna. January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to identify and explore issues and challenges that impact on transplant coordinators and their practice. Such identification enhances understanding of their role, provides evidence for decision-makers to facilitate the positive aspects of the coordinators' practice, highlights their professional needs and contributions and provides baseline data for future research, education and policy development. The study used both qualitative and quantitative data. Data collection methods involved focus group interviews and Delphi surveys. Participants were coordinators who were employed on a full-time, part-time or relieving basis. Recruitment of participants was done by purposive and snowball sampling. There were 112 coordinators in the study and each was randomly assigned to the focus groups or Delphi survey phases of the research. The analysis of the focus group data together with the literature, informed the development of the first Delphi survey. The second Delphi survey was developed using the data from the focus groups, literature and the first survey. Four categories emerged from the data. The first involved 'knowledge and experience', which explored the education needs of coordinators and the issue of nursing qualification requirements. The work environment, demands and conditions, together with role attributes were discussed in the next category - 'the role'. Recipient, donor family and transplant coordinator outcomes were addressed in the 'outcomes’ category. The basic social process – building relationships - explored the relationships that coordinators have with the health team and their client groups. Four types of relationships emerged which were supportive, non-supportive, aggressive and virtual relationships. The emergent theory of the challenges that transplant coordinators face relates to the building of relationships. The theory also discovers how knowledge and experience, the role and outcomes impact on the building of these relationships in an interdependent manner. This study also emphasises that the transplant coordinators' role is complex, demanding and distinctly unique in terms of the context within which coordinators practice. / http://proxy.library.adelaide.edu.au/login?url= http://library.adelaide.edu.au/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=1311520 / Thesis (Ph.D.) -- University of Adelaide, School of Population Health and Clinical Practice, 2008

Atuação dos coordenadores pedagógicos da rede municipal de ensino de São Paulo : implicações políticas e sofrimento no trabalho / Procedure of the pedagogic coordinators of the municipal schools of São Paulo : political implications and suffering at work

Rocha, Soraia da Silva, 1972- 26 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Evaldo Piolli / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Educação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-26T16:31:23Z (GMT). / Abstract: This work analyses the procedure of the pedagogic coordinators regarding the educational policies established for the municipal schools of São Paulo. The historical period chosen for the development of research covers the period of creation of the post of pedagogical coordinator, in 1985, linked to the context of political openness lived in the country, with the end of military dictatorship, resonating expectations for effective democratic management in school and continues until de present day. Documents of 'Memória Técnica Documental¿ from the Department of Education of São Paulo published during the administration of Mayor Paulo Maluf that, in the 1990s, contributed significantly to the implementation of 'total quality in education', interfering with the work done by pedagogical coordinators, are analyzed. To better understand the role played by these professionals are also analyzed assignments prescribed to them, contained in the announcement of entrance test, conducted in 2011, taking into account the transfer of the business organization model for the educational field, present the guidelines of current educational policies.Conducting semi-structured interviews allows to know the daily life of the pedagogical coordinators, consisting of challenges, obstacles and suffering at work. It can be seen that the principles of managerial character, present in the educational policies implemented in education network in the city of São Paulo, interfere significantly not only in work done by pedagogical coordinators, but also contribute to the impairment of health of these professionals. To reconstruct the relationship to work one of the respondents reported the importance of speaking and being heard by other pedagogical coordinators, able to understand the specifics and dilemmas of own activity. The research also reveals that the word 'spoken and heard' is essential in the renegotiation of the organization of work, but, for this, should be realized primarily in the space of action of the pedagogical coordinator and not outside it. / Mestrado / Politicas, Administração e Sistemas Educacionais / Mestra em Educação

Research Nurse Coordinators’ Perception of Relationship with Patients Enrolled in a Clinical Research Study

Schlichting, Douglas E. January 2016 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Dorothy Jones / Background/Purpose: The growth of clinical research trials to improve patient outcomes has significantly affected nursing and the implementation of the nurse research coordinator role. The purpose of this study was to explore how the research nurse coordinator (RNC) perceives this role and associated responsibilities for patients enrolled in a clinical research study and associated problems and ethical tensions that emerge during the delivery of a clinical research protocol. The research questions were 1) How does the RNC perceive his or her role responsibility for patients enrolled in a clinical trial? 2) Does the nurse experience ethical tension during the implementation of the RNC role? Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was used to answer the questions. RNCs from a large Northeastern teaching hospital participated in 1:1 interviews with the investigator. Data were analyzed for this study according to the methods described in Lincoln and Guba (1985) for qualitative research and presented as themes. Results: Eleven RNC participated in the study. Data from the interviews were distilled into five final themes: 1) The RNC develops intentional and mutual relationships with patients and their families that fosters trust; 2) In coming to know the patient the RNC as a clinical expert is able to advocate for the unique needs of patients enrolled in clinical trials; 3) The RNC is respected by the team for his or her skills and as a result is able to practice autonomously; 4) In reflecting on past experiences, RNCs identify with medical science philosophy of cure as opposed to nursing’s one of caring/healing and; 5) In reflecting on some aspects of clinical trials, RNCs recognize ethical tensions and as such are able to influence protocol implementation and future studies. Knowledge gained from this study provides insights about the RNC role perception and highlighted multiple dimensions of care delivery faced by nurses who practice as an RNC. The study participants described practicing in the RNC role with clarity about the role and described practicing with autonomy and independence. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2016. / Submitted to: Boston College. A função empreendedora-coordenadora da firma

Köbe, Suzana de Fátima January 2012 (has links)
The Nature of the Firm. / The current world information speed generates great changes, ocurring into an unpredictable environment. In such a scenary, it can be stated that the firm, considered as an economic agent of production and transactions, in order to remain profitable and competitive, it needs to coordinate its resources aiming to develop innovations both for keeping up with these changes and to assimilate the complexity of a market in which the consumers are increasingly better informed. According to this point of view, the present study aims to achieve a better general comprehension of the firm and, specifically, intends to identify its two essential dimensions: the entrepreneur and the coordinator ones. The research here reported that was focused to what extent the studied firms are more entrepreneur or more coordinator, and what are the results of such dimensions. The present research chief principles are based in the theoretical context brought by Coese, in 1937, in his work The Nature of the Firm. The researching work followed the method of multiple study cases, which was applied in six firms of different areas. The adopted technic was the one of the semistructured interviews. The attained results evidenced both, the entrepreneur dimension as well as the coordinator dimension. The first one of them is related to the decision making process, as considering the development of new alternatives for obtaining the necessary resources; and the second one, to the decision making process on managing the most efficient resources allocation and to the transactions to be made in the market. Therefore, these two dimensions are complementary to one another. The firms are preponderantly entrepreneurs or coordinators, depending on the decision-making and on the professional skills of the entrepreneurcoordinator, in his different operating and acting sectors. Additionally, into this context, and due to the dynamics and innovations adopted, which are inherent to its own functional mechanics, the firm becomes the responsible agent for the most of the market performance, as an efficient tool for coordinating of production.

Implementace simulátoru DEVS v C++20 / DEVS Simulator Implementation in C++20

Šurina, Timotej January 2021 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the issue of modeling and simulation of systems based on the DEVS formalism. The result of this work is a library that is inspired by the adevs tool and based on the classical DEVS formalism. The library is implemented in the programming language C++20 and is supplemented by predefined models of components for creation of queueing systems. The library also contains a set of examples for use in teaching. In comparison with the paralel adevs tool it is less effective but it has simpler interface with focus on clarity, which is more important for teaching. The library also simplifies definition of models with the use of modules, intelligent pointers for memory management and the use of mentioned components.

Title IX Coordinators: Good People Doing Good Work Under Impossible Expectations

Bluestein, Thomas Martin 08 May 2024 (has links)
The Title IX Coordinator is the chief administrator tasked with ensuring institutional compliance with Title IX, but scant literature exists about how Title IX Coordinators come to their role, how they gain the skills, competencies, and knowledge required to ensure institutional Title IX compliance, and how they juggle ethical considerations of fidelity, justice, autonomy, beneficence, and nonmalfeasance. The purpose of this study is to understand how TIX Coordinators make meaning of their role on campus and their role in institutional compliance with Title IX mandates. This qualitative research project uses a semi-structured interview protocol to enable participants to reflect on the skills, competencies, and knowledge they use to develop and implement policy change in their role, and in response to federal unfunded mandates, as well as the ethical considerations that they must balance in executing these duties. This research focuses on seven participants who are Title IX Coordinators at four-year institutions located in the United States. Findings indicate that Title IX Coordinators believe that they gain their skills and knowledge about being Title IX Coordinators from prior experiences, including their own childhood experiences. Participants believe that empathy, communication skills, and an ability to persevere are major competencies that Title IX Coordinators need to possess. Findings also indicate that participants exhibit strong fidelity to institutional compliance with TIX regulations and procedures, even when they may not fully agree with them. Findings also indicate that participants do not believe that the current Title IX regulatory scheme promotes justice, leading to a conclusion that, as currently constituted, the role of the Title IX Coordinator is impossible. This study also identifies some practice and policy areas future discussion and research. / Doctor of Philosophy / Title IX is a federal non-discrimination law that requires educational institutions receiving financial assistance from the federal government, often in the form of student loans and research grants, to ensure that their educational programs and activities are free from gender-based discrimination. Sexual assault on college campuses is viewed as an issue of gender-based discrimination because it can create an environment where individuals, regardless of their gender and gender-identity, are victims of sexual harassment in violation of Title IX. Through a series of guidance documents and federal rules, institutions are now required to have a Title IX Coordinator, a person who is in charge of ensuring compliance with Title IX. While still a relatively new role on college campuses, little research has been conducted about Title IX Coordinators, their roles, what types of skills they need, and how they approach their work. Seven Title IX Coordinators at four-year institutions in the United States were interviewed for this study. Analysis of these interviews found that Title IX Coordinators bring what they have learned from prior work and personal experiences to their work in Title IX and believe that their jobs primarily exist to ensure that their institutions are not sued for violating Title IX. Because participants believe that ensuring institutional compliance is expected to be their highest priority, they do not think that the current Title IX rules allow either people who are victims of gender-based discrimination, or those accused of engaging in gender-based discrimination, to receive any form of justice. This duty to serve and protect, in the face of a system that does not provide justice, leads to the conclusion that, as currently constructed, achieving the goals of Title IX on college campuses is impossible because the Title IX Coordinator is stuck in a system that does not achieve its ultimate goal: to eliminate, or at least reduce, gender-based discrimination and ensure access to education.

This study aimed to understand the constitution of the coordinating teacher and the pedagogical coordinator in the school context, considering their tasks (administrative and pedagogical) and the relationship it establishes with the school community (management, teachers, staff, students and parents) and the Department of Education of the City. The survey was conducted in the context of the Municipal Education in Rio Claro/SP. As Pedagogic Elementary Education Coordinator of the initial series of municipal schools, coordinated a Study Group, which was attended by head teachers of this school segment. The main issue of this research was to discuss the challenges that the coordinator teacher and the pedagogical coordinator face daily to exercise their role in the school context and the Municipal Department of Education, respectively. This is a qualitative study which examines a methodological perspective the narrative research, made possible: a) reflect on the organization of meetings with head teachers who participated in the Study Group, as of problematizations held by them and b) look at my constitution while forming this Study Group, this training space. Among the data production tools are: laws of the Municipal Department of Education, head teachers of records and schoolteachers that worked, notebook pedagogical coordinator, questionnaires given to participants of the Study Group, writing letters four coordinators teachers. Data analysis was performed from the evidential paradigm (GINZBURG, 1989). As lessons learned during the study are explicit: the relationship established with the participants of the Study Group, revealing the need to revisit our professional practice; the presence of silence linked to design training; the challenges present in the functions of coordinating teachers and pedagogical coordinator, which are not present in the legislation; the duties of head teachers who do not consider in their work projects proposed attentive to interpersonal relations and the presence of the student; the coordinator teacher elected by peers and subsequently suffer from the veiled threats depending on the positions it takes in their work; entrusted to the responsibilities individually on the need to take responsibility of all people, for the construction of the community before the students' learning. This work will contribute to rethink the design of training present among head teachers, pedagogical coordination and the City Department of Education, to pursue actions that transform the election process and/or renewal, set another relationship between the Educational Improvement Center the School Supervisors.
