- English In the 21st century the Internet constitutes very specific and important domain where the copyrighted works and their users encounter. It is the unique character of the Internet that in connection with the traditional concept of copyright as a law protecting a tangible medium creates this interesting problem of the use of copyrighted works in Internet environment. Resolving this problem and depicting what is actually happening on the web everyday is important also for the public in their daily use of the Internet. The majority of users does not even know what exactly they do on the Internet - which acts they perpetrate are legal and which are not. The aim of this thesis is mainly to describe particular modes of use of copyrighted works, and the scope of protection of a work. In the field of Internet these are according to §12 in association with §13 and §18 of the Czech Copyright Act reproduction and communication to public, for these are the only modes that doesn't require a tangible medium. The thesis solves in which case the Fair use concept of §30 is applied and when a consent of author or collective administrator is required. Internet and copyright Abstract The subject of this thesis is Internet and copyright which I consider to be a very topical issue according to the significant impact Internet has on the everyday life of the today's society and also on the development of copyright law. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the challenges copyright law is currently facing on account of the technological development, and to describe copyright issues on the Internet and social media which represent a specific field of intellectual property rights. The thesis is divided into six chapters and subdivided into subchapters and sections. The first chapter highlights a significance of the Internet in today's society, and it briefly outlines its evolution in time. The second chapter describes the historical development of copyright law, it explains basic copyright principles and the assignment of copyright to intellectual property rights, and it summarizes the sources of copyright law. The third chapter is devoted to basic copyright terms, and it aims to allow a closer understanding of the copyright. 1 Internet and Copyright Abstract This master's thesis discusses the role and effect of copyright in the ever-changing Internet environment which (due to its specifics) requires special legislature providing for exploitation of creative works. The main aim of this thesis is to analyze relevant legal aspects of important ways of use of author's works in cyberspace, identify the problematic areas in currently effective legal framework and evaluate the possible outcomes of recently adopted EU copyright reform on a digital single market. The thesis is divided into five chapters where the first two serve as a general introduction to the topic while the following three are rather analytically descriptive or almost exclusively analytic. The first chapter focuses on Internet's technical background and thus forms the necessary basis for subsequent reading. Its content is not limited to terminology but also encompasses the description of Internet's main technical features which largely affect the boundaries for digital copyright. Finally, legitimacy of regulation in cyberspace is discussed and eventually approved.
