Opportunities and Challenges for Small Condiment Company in Implementing Corporate Social   Responsibility in China

Liu, Zhouhong January 2015 (has links)
Abstract Background and purpose: Many people think that the corporate social responsibility is inseparable from large companies. However, small condiment companies have come to realize the importance of corporate social responsibility in recent decades as well and begun to implement it gradually. But there are still some challenges and opportunities that are faced by small condiment companies. This study will contribute to increases in literature of corporate social responsibility of SME by examining the SME in Chinese state policy context. And the purpose of this study is to find out the opportunities and challenges confronted by small condiment companies in implementing corporate social responsibility through the case study of the small condiment company, Meihua Condiment Co. Ltd. Shandong Branch. Method: The main method used in this study is single case study, which helps the authors get in-depth investigation, rich description and better understanding of how a small condiment company implements corporate social responsibility and the opportunities and challenges it faces therein. In this thesis, semi-structured face-to-face interviews that are aimed to get detailed information about the small condiment company---Meihua Condiment Co. Ltd. Shandong Branch are held. Since the face-to-face interview allows more communication between the authors and interviewees, and through the interviews, the authors get more familiar with the main condition of the company and know how they implement the CSR, as questions raised to the interviewees mainly concern how the company runs and how it implements corporate social responsibility. Around the topic of implementing CSR in small companies, the authors had looked up and analyzed the internet information like in China Development Observations, professional journals, and different digest like Special Focus, thus come up with an conclusion that small companies are faced with both challenges and opportunities. Furthermore, through the practical investigation of a small typical company--Meihua Condiment Co. Ltd. Shandong Branch, the authors make a step future to prove this argument. Conclusion: During the process of implementing CSR, small condiment companies may face plenty of opportunities such as low production cost, high group cohesiveness and less social responsibilities, but also lots of challenges such as enterprise development resistance and low social recognition. The investigation on a condiment SME in China shows that it’s important to combine both business opportunity and government effort for small condiment company to implement CSR. The small condiment company can take the advantage of its little social responsibility to save much effort to promote productions, utilize its strong staff coherence to improve production enthusiasm, make effort to do charity work well to establish good reputation, transfer the capital saved from taxes reduction to development, actively carry out moral construction for responding the nation’s summons, enhance enterprise’s sense of social responsibility. Meanwhile, the company shall also face challenges and take full advantages of them. What is more, due to the financial constrain and lack of external attention, the government shall transform its functions, deepen the reform, create good external environments and broaden the financing channel for small condiment company, enhance the company’s sense of safe production and solve the environment and products problems well. Key words: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Small Condiment Company, Opportunities, Challenges, Corresponding Countermeasures

On the Vienna Corso: Changing street use and street design around the Vienna State Opera House 1860-1949

Gruber, Carmen, Raminger, Kathrin, Shibayama, Takeru, Winder, Manuela 09 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Technological changes have opened up new opportunities for historical research, which call for new methodologies to fully realise these opportunities. This paper presents the four-step interactive photo timeline analysis we developed to analyse large volumes of historical photographs from both a quantitative and qualitative perspective. We present the results of a case study (regarding both street design and street use in Vienna from 1860 to 1949) in which we utilised interactive photo timeline analysis. The geographical research scope was limited to the streets around the Vienna Opera: street use and street design were analysed from the perspective of the street as transportation space and as urban living space. The development of the interactive photo timeline analysis methodology and the case study analysis benefited greatly from the interdisciplinary nature of the research team.

Thermophilic proteins : stability and function / Les protéines thermophiles : stabilité et fonction

Katava, Marina 14 October 2016 (has links)
The structural stability and activity of proteins have been often presented as equivalent. However, the thermophilic proteins are stable at ambient condition, but lack activity, the latter recovered only when the temperature increases to match that of the optimal growth condition for the hosting organism. In discussing the protein stability and activity, mechanical rigidity is often used as a relevant parameter, offering a simple and appealing explanation of both the extreme thermodynamic stability and the lack of activity at low temperature. The reality, however, illustrates the complexity of the rigidity/flexibility trade off in ensuring stability and activity through intricate thermodynamic and molecular mechanisms. Here we investigate the problem by studying three study cases. These are used to relate the thermal effects on mechanical properties and the stability and activity of the proteins. For instance, we have probed the thermal activation of functional modes in EF G-domain and Lactate/Malate dehydrogenase mesophilic and thermophilic homologues and verified a “universal” scaling of atomistic fluctuation of the Lysozyme approaching the melting in different environmental conditions. Our conclusions largely rest on an in silico approach, where molecular dynamics and enhanced sampling techniques are utilized, and are often complemented with neutron scattering experiments

História em quadrinhos na aula de língua estrangeira: proposta de análise de adequação didática e sugestão de exercícios / Comics in the classroom of a foreign language: proposal for analysis of didactics adequacy and suggestions of exercises

Daví Jaén Rodriguez 11 August 2008 (has links)
The object of study of this dissertation is the use of comic strips in the foreign language class, exemplified in German language. The use of comic strips is justified for different reasons: its motivating and globalizing aspect, its identification with the learners, its popularity and contemporaneity, the possibility of different language approaches, its ability to facilitate memorization processes of vocabulary by combining text and image, and, finally, because they are authentic media for specific information on the culture and context in which they are inserted. The use of comic strips in class demands knowledge of their fundamental characteristics as a narrative system made up of two codes which interact (both visual and verbal) as well as of a specific characteristic: the process that takes place in the readers mind in the empty space between two panels, the conclusion. The dissertation offers an introduction to these concepts, as well as a procedure for the selection of comic strips based on this knowledge, aiming to optimize the work of the foreign language teacher. Moreover, the work also suggests not only some activities with comics which consider a typology of exercises for the communicative class, but also some instances of practical use of such activities with Brazilian learners of German as a foreign language.

Understanding the London Corresponding Society: A Balancing Act between Adversaries Thomas Paine and Edmund Burke

Hunt, Jocelyn B. January 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the intellectual foundation of the London Corresponding Society’s (LCS) efforts to reform Britain's Parliamentary democracy in the 1790s. The LCS was a working population group fighting for universal male suffrage and annual parliaments in a decade that was wrought with internal social and governmental tension. Many Britons, especially the aristocracy and those in the government, feared the spread of ideas of republicanism and equality from revolutionary France and responded accordingly by oppressing the freedom of speech and association. At first glance, the LCS appears contradictory: it supported the hierarchical status quo but fought for the voice and representation of the people; and it believed that the foundation for rights was natural but also argued its demands for equal rights were drawn from Britain’s ancient unwritten constitution. This thesis contextualizes these ideas using a contemporary debate, the Burke-Paine controversy, as Edmund Burke was the epitome of eighteenth century conservative constitutionalism in Reflections on the Revolution in France while Thomas Paine’s Rights of Man represented a Lockean interpretation of natural rights and equality. Thus using Reflections and Rights of Man as a framework, this thesis demonstrates that the LCS thoroughly understood its demands for parliamentary reform and uniformly applied its interpretation of natural rights and equality to British constitutionalism and the social and governmental hierarchies.
