This research investigates, via a transdisciplinary lens, the work of the Swiss-‘Bahian’ composer Walter Smetak. We argue that to clearly understand the work of Smetak, it should be viewed from a transdiciplinary perspective, as bringing together cosmological, philosophical, as well as anthropological elements. In this way, the work situates itself at an intersection of disciplinary currents which Smetak sought to mediate by way of his musical practice. According to his conception, the musical act assimilates diverse forms of productivity, to instigate the emergence of a new consciousness in the musician/researcher. As such, a more strictly aesthetic practice seeks to expand its field of application, showing how aesthetic production interrogates modes of productivity at a more general level, as constitutive of anthropological forms. By relativizing the coherence of the anthropological by demonstrating the mutability of its forms of production, Smetak aims to point out the constant collaboration that the anthropological sustains with the cosmos, which functions as its exterior.
