Organic-walled microplankton paleoecology and biostratigraphy of the Upper Cretaceous Ripley Formation, southwestern GeorgiaDegnan, Keith Terence January 1987 (has links)
This study documents the occurrence of dinoflagellate, chlorophyte, and acritarch cysts from the Upper Cretaceous upper Cusseta, Ripley, and lower Providence Formations in the USGS Fort Gaines core, drilled in Clay County, Georgia.
A total of 75 taxa were identified, consisting of 36 genera, 61 species, and 5 subspecies of dinoflagellates, 3 genera and 4 species of chlorophytes, 3 genera and 4 species of acritarchs, and 1 problematical protozoan. 15 of these taxa are unpublished.
The study's cyst assemblage was statistically analyzed to ascertain paleoecologic patterns. The results from cluster analysis and detrended correspondence analysis indicate the presence of four cyst associations. The Deflandrea pannucea association is interpreted as indicative of low salinity related to nearby river discharge. The Deflandrea sp. A association is confined to the inner shelf. The Exochosphaeridium bifidum and Glaphyrocysta reticulosa associations alternate under normal marine conditions. The associations correlate well with observed lithologies and lithologic change.
Comparison of this study's assemblage with other Late Cretaceous assemblages provides limited information, since many biostratigraphically-important species are not present in this study. However, comparisons with Wilson's (1974), Benson's (1976), and Firth's (1984) zonations suggest a Lower Maastrichtian age for all strata in this study. / M.S.

Implementation of the Hogan, Rosellón, and Vogelsang (HRV) incentive mechanism into the InTraGas modelBauer, Francisca, Bremberger, Christoph, Kunz, Friedrich 05 1900 (has links) (PDF)
The European natural gas market is characterised by higher demand than available supply from
own resources. Therefore Europe is a gas net-importing region. The costs of potential problems or
disruptions establish the need for an environment which stimulates sufficient investments in transmission
line capacities. We examine the effects of the introduction of the recently developed Hogan,
Rosellón and Vogelsang (HRV) incentive mechanism into the European natural gas market. In the
simulations with GAMS we can confirm all results expected from theory. The validity of these simulation
results is confirmed in a structural analysis, which comprised the variation of different exogenous
input parameters. Therefore we conclude that the HRV incentive mechanism as a regulatory regime
for the European natural gas market would be an advisable alternative, which should be considered
in future discussions. (author's abstract) / Series: Working Papers / Research Institute for Regulatory Economics

Detecting Collusion in Spatially Differentiated MarketsFirgo, Matthias, Kügler, Agnes 10 1900 (has links) (PDF)
The empirical literature on mergers, market power and collusion in differentiated markets has mainly focused on
methods relying on output and/or panel data. In contrast to this literature we suggest a novel approach that allows for
the detection of collusive behavior among a group of firms making use of information on the spatial structure of horizontally differentiated products. By estimating best response functions using a spatial econometrics approach, we focus on differences in the strategic interaction in pricing between different groups of firms as well as on differences in price levels. We apply our method to the market for ski lift tickets using a unique data set on ticket prices and detailed resort-specific characteristics covering all ski resorts in Austria.
The potentially anticompetitive nature of some practices driven by professional organizations has been approached in economic literature and appears as an important issue in the antitrust organism's agenda. However, empirical economics lacks of a self-regulated professionals analysis. This work relates the market for professional services with vertical product differentiation models and uses a Mixed Logit model to assess the medical profession behavior in Argentina. The evidence suggests the existence of a price arrangement. / Tesis de la Maestría en Economía, bajo la dirección de Fernando Navajas, de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata.

Studie propojení mezi MÚK Ostrovačice na D1 a D52 / Connection of the grade-separated interchange Ostrovačice D1 with highway D52 - Location StudyJanyška, Miroslav January 2019 (has links)
This master’s thesis is a reconnaissance study developed to create a concept of road connection between the road 43 and the highway D52 in the Czech Republic. The possible route of road 43 is planned both in highway and road category in so called Bitysska trail and is connected to highway D1 at Ostrovacice interchange. This thesis suggests highway and road options to connect interchange Ostrovacice and highway D52 at the section between Ledce and Rajhrad. Suggested options were compared and the most convenient draft option was further worked out.

The Bowen affect : the short fiction of Elizabeth Bowen and the case for re-reading emotionSchaller, Karen Ann January 2011 (has links)
This thesis argues that the short fiction of Elizabeth Bowen is acutely preoccupied with reading emotion. Despite the growth of Bowen criticism, her stories remain understudied and this project proposes that their marginal status corresponds to this preoccupation. Through a close engagement with the literary representations of emotion at work in selected Bowen's stories, read alongside Bowen criticism, short story theory, and work on emotion, however, I show how her stories not only anticipate, but radically disrupt, current emotion theory. Recent theorisations of, and research on, emotion and affect across the disciplines tend to rely on the readability of emotion, emphasising the interpretation of specific emotions and reviving practices of affective criticism. Yet Bowen‟s short fiction foregrounds emotion‟s textuality: rather than allow us to read emotion „in‟ literature, I argue that her stories theorise the literariness of emotion. The project begins by suggesting a correspondence between her stories‟ engagement with emotion and their status, both within her literary oeuvre and in Bowen scholarship, to suggest that the complexity of her short fiction is often under-represented by occluding the deconstructions emotion mobilises. This enables us to map critical debates amongst Bowen scholars about the radicality of Bowen‟s fiction onto wider narratives about emotion and critical resistances to its textuality. I go on to undertake close readings of selected stories to show how Bowen‟s short fiction destabilises, rather than reinforces, the geographies of subjectivity, reality, time, and materiality to which emotion is presumed to belong. This project extends Bowen criticism that observes the ways her work anticipates psychoanalytical and Derridean readings, but through its focus on the short story it offers the second focused study of Bowen‟s short fiction, and the first study of her short fiction to be informed by critical emotion theory. Not only does this thesis carve out a new territory within Bowen scholarship, but it offers a timely contribution to problems in thinking emotion and affect in literary criticism and theory. More broadly, it is my hope that my reading of Bowen demonstrates the necessity of attending to the textuality of emotion in the reading and theorisation of emotion across the disciplines.
