Demokrati i ungdomars livsvärldar : En kvalitativ studie om ungdomars tankar och erfarenheter kring demokratibegreppet

Olsson, Ann January 2015 (has links)
The study deals with youth’s experience of democracy in their daily lives and how it is being expressed. Several authors have highlighted a problem in young people ´s views on democracy. The problem at hand is that two days youth takes democracy lightly and that they see democracy as politics and elections, and that they don’t see the value of democracy. The aim of this study was to examine young people ´s experience and thoughts on the concept of democracy. A qualitive method was chosen and the empirical material was gathered through five individual interviews and four observations at various youth centres. The questions in the interviews where about how adolescence experiencing participation, influence and how democracy is carried out and implemented in their life, such as school, leisure, family, friends and media. The study showed that adolescence experience participation and influence as a part of democracy and that it is important to them, because it gives them an opportunity to make their voices heard, but they were also unconscious of some of the democracy that exists in their everyday lives. The level of awareness associated with democracy varied and the adolescence were experiencing awareness intheirhome environmentandthe unconsciousdemocracywere present in schools and recreations centres where it is not as visible to young people. The study also shows that adolescence creates democracy, by for example, the creation of music and involvement in sports. Finally, the study shows that young people experienced a high value on democracy even if they did not take advantage of it which lead to consequences because the adolescence did not value their own role in a democratic context.
