Modet att samtala : en essä om när rädslan att tappa ansiktet blir ett hinder i samtalet

Johansson, Camilla January 2012 (has links)
The problem, which I want to highlight in this essay, is about my fear of losing face in conversationwith the parents of my text. I'm going through different approaches to find out what is happening inmy meetings with parents. I will also see if the knowledge that I get will help me to get deeperunderstanding of my reactions in different situations and if this opens up new possible ways ofhandling them.In my text there will be two stories where the conversation with parents has been difficult. Theyboth illustrate my uncertainty concerning the unpredictability of conversations with distressed orstressed parents. I can prepare the environment, by cleaning and making it look nice before meetingwith the parents. My difficulties are to prepare myself to stand face to face with an annoyed parent. The first story is about Anders´ dad who has a disagreeable tone to me, when he wants me to helphim to find his son's rainwear. The second example is about the conversation with Lisa´s parentswho have a child we suspect have a social disorder. Both of my examples are then analyzed fromdifferent perspectives – authority, power, fear of exposure, timing and habit. In my essay the intention has been to better understand these situations and why I react like I do.My hope is that this work can help me to deal with them differently in the future. I also assume thatmy problem is not unique but shared by others and that my analyses therefore might be of broaderinterest.
