Využití dichotomie My versus Oni v předvolebních projevech Joe Bidena a Donalda Trumpa z roku 2020 / Utilization of the Us versus Them Dichotomy in 2020 Campaign Speeches of Joe Biden and Donald Trump

Pýcha, Jaroslav January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to analyze the camping speeches of the two major candidates running for President of the Unites States in the 2020 general election and to inspect the ways in which both the candidates utilize the Us versus Them dichotomy. In doing so, the thesis provides a critique of the texts produced by the candidates and seeks to unveil their ideological motivation. As categorizing entities has a profound effect on the audience and their perception of reality, the goal is not only to unveil what entities the candidates discuss, but also to determine how they classify these entities. In addition, the strategies used by both the candidates to achieve entity evaluation are compared in order to contrast their rhetorical styles. The theoretical part of the thesis overviews concepts related to the construction of group identities and other ways of reproducing ideology in discourse. Furthermore, Hasan's approach to text analysis, which is employed in the analytical part, is introduced. A brief biography of both the candidates and a description of the US presidential election system are included as well. The analytical part is composed of Critical Discourse Analyses of selected topical segments from campaign speeches of Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Special focus is dedicated to the strategies the...

Jazyk hudebního magazínu SPARK / The language of SPARK magazine

Bodlák, Ondřej January 2011 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with Discourse analysis of music magazine Spark, which refers to metal music. The main standpoint is the phraseology and the choice of metaphorical expression which are used in the magazíne. They are determined by aesthetic and cultural context, to which the magazíne relates. Specific indexicality at the linguistic level refers, in a specific way, to musical context. The theoretical basis is stylistic analysis of specifically modified publicistic operational style, of its lexical items, phraseology and imaginativeness. Emphasis is layed on tenseness between the automatization in the use of means of expression and some author's style actualization. Both tendencies are relevant to the text contextualization. The first part of the thesis, named Introduction, presents the thematic structure of the magazíne and its specific form of advertising, the second part, named Texts, is focused on stylistic analysis of texts and their interpretation in the light of cultural context. In this second part are presented the persvazive aspects of the magazíne, in consideration of Christian values. The aim of this thesis is to describe one of the contemporary Czech media, in connection with linguistics and ideology. Key words: Discourse analysis Contextualization Order of indexicality Slang...

Role pánských lifestylových časopisů na českém mediálním trhu se zaměřením na časopis Maxim / Role of the Men's Lifestyle Magazines on the Czech Media Market with Focus on the Maxim

Kubištová, Lenka January 2013 (has links)
The thesis "Role of the Men's Lifestyle Magazines in the Czech Media Market with Focus on the Maxim Magazine" deals with the analysis of five lifestyle magazines for men situated in the Czech Republic in 2011 - Playboy, Esquire, FHM, ForMen, and Maxim. The thesis begins with a brief introduction into the history of the studied magazines in the Czech Republic and further examines them from the content, language, and graphics perspective. Special attention is dedicated to Maxim as it is the most successful magazine in the segment. With the help of the discourse analysis in the interpretation of Teun A. van Dijk the work focuses on five categories that characterize the magazine discourse: the ambivalent approach to the traditional "heroic" masculinity, the way Maxim communicates with its readers, the role of humour (especially irony) and the magazine's view on homosexuals and women. The thesis demonstrates the ideological - sexist - base of the Maxim discourse with the support of demonstrative examples.

Analýza času jako narativní kategorie ve staroseverských ságách / Analysis of time as a narrative category in Old Norse sagas

Králová, Kristýna January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to set up characteristic attributes of saga time structure and with concern to these to show how the Old Norse people understood time. Main attention is concentrated on the time structure of the family sagas. First, it is shown the principal of the dating in saga and how it differs from the principal of dating in annal and chronicle. I proceed to deal with the most common time indications to appear in saga and their role in the storytelling. The focus point of this thesis is a comparison of narrated time and time of narration. To support this intention, I use the three concepts of Gerard Genette - duration, order and frequency. Based on the duration concept, I try to investigate why extensive time leaps abound in sagas and what on the other hand appears to have been given some extra author's attention. According to the order concept, a question is discussed to what extent the saga holds the chronological composition. Within the frequency concept, it is compared how many times an event occurs to how many times it is narrated. In the following chapters the time structure of the kings'sagas and the legendary sagas is discussed. The crucial difference between the time structure of these and the structure of family saga is established. There is a conclusion to each chapter,...
