Por fim, é proposto o conceito de um veículo para investigação subaquática de águas rasas e é apresentado seu esboço.<br> / Abstract : Investigation and characterization of surfaces and subsurfaces in shallow water regions is very important in order to allow proper planning of human activities, since several of those regions are close to cities. However, this kind of research is receiving less attention than the deep water ones, due to the most immediate profitable activities of the oil and gas industry. Even that most villages and cities was developed near of body of water, the study of shallow water just started receiving investments in the past two decades. Although it can be thought that it is a simple matter of transfering the deep water investigation technology to the case of shallow water, the fact is that this environment has several factors that makes it a complex one. There are the influence of winds, waves, tides and currents, for instance. Also, it has a constant changing topography. So, the problem of performing batimetry in shallow water is not just important but has several issues to be considered. This work presents conceptual design proposal of a Autonomous Underwater Vehicle for underwater mapping, which must be economically viable and perform its tasks while minimizing risks to operators and to the underwater environment, when compared to current solutions. To achieve these goals, a research about the current investigation systems used by research centers and companies was made, followed by a study of mapping methods of the ocean background focusing in the acoustics ones. Some problems associated with AUV design and operation was discussed, especially the ones of navigation/ localization during the execution of a mission and the wave dynamics in shallow water. Finally, a conceptual solution of an AUV for investigation in shallow water is presented.
