Improving the new product development process

Stockton, D. J. January 1983 (has links)
A system has been developed and is being used at H. M. -Ltd. for estimating the labour and overhead costs of components manufactured by a wide variety of production processes. The system uses multiple linear regression analysis to develop estimating equations that quantitatively measure the relationship between the production time of a component and the factors that influence this time. Production times can then be converted to cost using appropriate labour and overhead cost rates. The system uses design features only for predictor variables in the estimating equations. Hence designers with little concept of manufacturing methods can use the system to cost designs as they evolve. This feature therefore provides designers with a powerful cost optimization tool. The manufacturing time data used to develop estimating equations represents current operating conditions at Herbert Morris Ltd. Hence the estimated times can be used directly as standard times for the planning and control of manufacturing. In this way manufacturing costs will be directly linked to the design features of a product. Software has been developed to allow a computer to retrieve appropriate equations and compute the production times and costs of components. This software could form the basis for a larger system that also generates producibility data for designers. A method of allowing designers to estimate the development times for individual components and assemblies has been developed. This facility enables the design process to be scheduled such that the overall new product development time could be minimized. An important element of this scheduling method is the ability to allocate resources between components to be designed on the basis of relative cost and importance to. the overall success of the project.

Využití technické analýzy při investičním rozhodování / The Application of Technical Analysis in Investment Decision-Making

Dvořák, Michal January 2009 (has links)
Diploma thesis focuses on the description of the financial market and its importance in the economy and examines the various approaches and methods of analysis of investment instruments and the nature of investing at all. The main part is devoted to tools of the technical analysis of shares and financial derivatives and their practical use in deciding on investment in financial markets. The most important part of this work is the follow-up evaluation of the effectiveness of investments.

Using a Comprehensive Model to Test and Predict the Factors of Online Learning Effectiveness

He, Minyan 17 August 2013 (has links)
As online learning is an important part of higher education, the effectiveness of online learning has been tested with different methods. Although the literature regarding online learning effectiveness has been related to various factors, a more comprehensive review of the factors may result in broader understanding of online learning effectiveness. Therefore the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among online learning effectiveness, interactivity, collaboration, communication media, and group trust. A student survey based on online learning effectiveness, interactivity, collaboration, communication media, group trust, and demographic information was used in this study. All these variables were used as predictor variables. A total of 401 responses were received during summer 2013 from a southeastern university. Different models were compared by using multiple linear regression. Results of the best predicting model showed interactivity was the strongest predictor of online learning effectiveness, followed by previous online grades, age, employment status, number of online courses taken, and ethnicity. These predictors explained 38% of the variances in online learning effectiveness. Findings of this study provide valuable information for online instructors and university administrators.

Využití multikriteriální analýzy pro hodnocení efektivnosti projektu lanové dráhy / Use of Multi-criteria Analysis for Evaluation Cableway Project Efficiency

Kotrla, Jakub January 2020 (has links)
This thesis investigates the cableway project in the city of Vsetín. The theoretical part is describing the city, it’s demographic trends and also changes in the image of the city. The practical part is dealing with the abovementioned cableway project and is divided into several parts. The introduction is focused on a multi-criteria assessment of particular options of the cableway and fallowing a multi-criteria assessment of transport services in the housing development Sychrov. The multi-criteria assessment is carried out by some of variant calculations in order to specify the importance of criteria, weighting for criterion and calculation methods. This is followed by an assessment of the efficiency of transport links by the Cost Benefit Analysis – CBA method. This method is aimed to determine the most effective way of passenger traffic and to recommend an optimal option in consideration of not only incomes but also costs and contribution to beneficiaries, which are an important part of public projects.

Hodnocení investičního záměru společnosti / The Evaluation of the Investment Project of the Company

Dvořák, Marcel January 2020 (has links)
The subjekt of this diploma thesis is evaluation of the investment project of the company in order to prepare an investment recommendation fot the company. In the theoretical part of the diploma thesis, there will be presented procedures, which will be applied in decision making in the practical part of the thesis. In this case, investment options will be assessed using these methods and the most appropriate investment recommendation for the company will be drawn up.

THE LONG-TERM EFFECTIVENESS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION AT JAPANESE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Uematsu, Shigeo January 2010 (has links)
This study was an investigation of the effect of English Learning in the Elementary School (ELES) on both English language skills and affective variables. The participants were 145 public junior high school students in Grades 7 and 8; 72 participants received English language instruction once a week in the local public elementary schools in tokku (special educational district), while the remaining 73 participants had not received any English language instruction in their local public elementary schools. Three research questions were investigated: (a) To what degree do the ELES Experienced students and the Non- Experienced students differ in terms of their English listening, speaking, reading, vocabulary, and grammar skills?; (b) To what degree do the ELES Experienced students and the Non- Experienced students differ on the motivational and attitudinal variables?; (c) To what degree do the affective differences between the Grade 7 and Grade 8 results converge or diverge? The Experienced group outperformed the Non-experienced group to a statistically significant degree on the listening test in Grades 7 and 8, on the speaking test in both Grades 7 and 8, except for the Grade 8 story-telling task. The Experienced group outperformed the Non-experienced group on vocabulary/grammar and reading tests, but the results did not reach statistical significance in part because of a lack of statistical power caused by the modest N-size. Unlike previous research findings, no statistically significant differences were found between the Experienced and Non-experienced students for the four motivational and attitudinal variables of Attitudes Toward Intercultural Communication, Attitudes Toward English Learning, Respect for Self and Others, and Reasons for Studying English. Although the conversion or diversion of English skills could not be obtained because different tests were administered to measure the Grade 7 and Grade 8 participants' English skills, the above affective variables did not converge or diverge from Grade 7 to Grade 8. / CITE/Language Arts
