Entering and Revealing of Architecture_ A Kindergarten at Windmill Hill Park

Kong, Zhaoyang 11 March 2013 (has links)
This thesis topic is focused on the experience of entering and revealing architecture. An entrance is not solely about the physical form of a door, rather it is the beginning of a building; a conversation between public and private, light and dark, safety and danger. The entrance is also a threshold for smell, texture, sound, light, and color. It is the preface of a poem that will lead you to fall in love with the rhythm of the building. It is where beauty begins and never ends. / Master of Architecture

Moments of Entering a Home

Zhang, Lantian 22 January 2018 (has links)
This thesis explores the corridor as an essential architectural element in an apartment building. By differentiating the conventional linear corridor, a more pleasant corridor could be achieved: corridor with various widths and natural lighting through architecture manipulation. The building's locale contributes to another topic of this thesis, the urban form for a downtown apartment building. The identities of three streets surrounding the site are respectively unique. One is a downtown pedestrian sidewalk with storefronts, one is a quiet one-way back road, and the other is a major highway with heavy traffic. Examining these three urban conditions, the possible relationship between the streets and the apartment building is explored. For apartment residents, the street conditions and the corridors constitute the very transitional experience for him or her to enter a home. / Master of Architecture

Optimizing Patient Protection During Diagnostic Procedures -Developing Diagnostic Reference Levels at the Dr George Mukhari Hospital

Dumela, Khombo Eunice January 2010 (has links)
Thesis (MSc.(Med)(Physics))--University of Limpopo, 2010. / Key words: Diagnostic reference levels (DRL), entrance surface dose (ESD), thermoluminescence dosimetry (TLD) Introduction: Diagnostic reference levels (DRL‟s) are defined as a dose level set for standard sized patients or standard phantoms and are not for individual exposures and individual patients and are an efficient standard for optimizing the radiation protection of patients and are practically useful for more common examinations. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recommends entrance surface dose (ESD) as DRL‟s in diagnostic radiology and are establish using a TLD on a patient/phantom surface. Aim: To estimate entrance surface dose for different X-ray procedures. Objectives: The objective of this study is to develop the diagnostic reference levels by assessing the dose received by a patient in radiographic exposure. This was achieved using different X-ray techniques to estimate the entrance surface dose for different examinations. Method: The study was conducted at the Dr George Mukhari hospital using 5 different X-ray machines. Before the study commenced quality assurance was done on the machines. The following examinations were considered: Cervical spine (AP), cervical spine (LAT), Skull (AP), Skull (PA), Abdomen (AP), Pelvis (AP), Lumber spine (AP), Lumber spine (LAT), Chest (PA) and Chest (LAT). Thermoluminescence lithium fluoride (LiF) (TLD-100, 3.16 X 3.16 X 0.9 mm3, Harshaw) and the Rando phantom were used to estimate the ESD‟s in mGy. Three TLD‟s were mounted on the top of the phantom in the centre of X-ray beam, external to the organ/tissue being imaged. The average dose was calculated for each radiograph and for each examination. The following technique factors were recorded: tube kilovoltage, focus-to-surface distance, focus-to-film distance, time and mA. vi Results: The mean ESD‟s measured at the centre of X-ray beam on the surface of the phantom for the following examinations are: Cervical spine (AP), 2.99 (± 0.26) mGy; Cervical spine (LAT), 3.23 (± 0.34) mGy; Skull (PA), 3.50 (±0.37) mGy; Skull (LAT), 2.60 (± 0.26) mGy; Abdomen (AP), 4.18 (± 0.40) mGy; Pelvis (AP), 3.96 (± 0.33) mGy; Lumber spine (APS), 4.72 (± 0.39) mGy; Lumber spine (LAT), 8.56 (± 0.67) mGy Chest (PA), 0.72 (± 0.27) mGy and Chest (LAT), 1.03 (± 0.45) mGy. Conclusion: The results of the individual exposure and the overall results of each examination were lower than reported in the literature except for the chest (PA). The determination of patient dose and the comparison with the international DRL‟s are an important factor in the optimization process in diagnostic radiology and it is of special concern for the patient‟s protection. The baseline of diagnostic reference levels for the Dr George Mukhari hospital has been established and the results obtained could be useful for future patient dose measurements in diagnostic radiology Department at the Dr George Mukhari hospital.

he Prediction of the Department Score of the College Entrance Examination in Taiwan

Chen, Yun-Shiuan 11 September 2012 (has links)
Prediction systems for College Entrance Examination (CEE) are popular during the graduating season, July every year in Taiwan. These systems give students suggestion according to their examination scores. There are several CEE prediction systems in Taiwan, but most of them are not constructed with rigorous theories. In 2005, Zen et al. constructed a prediction model using statistical method, which was later verified and improved by Lin in 2008. In this thesis, we will introduce the recording mechanism of the College Entrance Examination, and explain how to construct a prediction system under this mechanism. Also, we will compare the previous system with ours. We apply an empirical method and SVR as our first two approaches, and then we propose a new method. In our experiments, we consider the scores published by CEE center from 2004 to 2008. We use the root mean square error (RMSE) value to evaluate the performance of our present method. We also use the value generated by our method to show some information of the schools and the departments.

A Study of Competitive Strategy for the New Enterant in China Semiconductor Packaging and Testing Industry

Wu, Meng-hern 17 July 2007 (has links)
With comes the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games, kinds of communication IC, Wireless Internet IC and etc. are needed. According to the announcement of China government, whole semi-conducting processes should be gone though in China, that may attract huge marking effect and give huge rise in assembly investment. Moreover, the advantages of investment in Chinese semiconductors are extensive marking, lower labor cost, and nearly complete production chain; on the contrary, the disadvantages are the lack of professors and technology, and the weakness in manufacture patents. This study plans to find out what strategies the new entrants should take to win the competitive marketing. Therefore, the main purposes of this study include the market composition, key success strategies and competitive strategies versus the needs of market in the future. With studying the relative data, references, SWOT and five-force analysis of Chinese semiconductor markets and interviews, the study constructs the successful strategies in Chinese semiconductor markets. The sums the main competitive strategies of this study are ¡§Strategic Alliances¡¨, ¡§Differentiation¡¨, ¡§Intellectual Property Possessing¡¨, ¡§Professors Training¡¨, ¡§Customer Requirements Service¡¨ and ¡§Policy Coordination¡¨; additionally, the strategies above using should accompany other factors and adjust by times. Hope this study to be a suggestion for future entrant¡¦s reference.
