To what extent do core self-evaluations and coping style influence the perception of job insecurity?

Låstad, Lena January 2010 (has links)
Over the last few decades, increased flexibility and lack of stability in employment has made job insecurity a work stressor that keeps affecting more and more  employees. This study investigates to what extent core self-evaluations influence the appraisal of job insecurity in a Swedish sample of white-collar workers (N=425). By applying the Preacher & Hayes’ macro for multiple mediation the study also tests if there is a mediating effect of coping style on the relation between core self-evaluations and job insecurity. The results show that core self-evaluations have predictive validity in relation to job insecurity. Core self-evaluations are also associated with task-based coping style. However, no mediating effect of coping style was found on the relation between core self-evaluations and job insecurity. / Stockholm Stress Center / Job insecurity from a gender perspective

Application of price uncertainty quantification models and their impacts on project evaluations

Fariyibi, Festus Lekan 30 October 2006 (has links)
This study presents an analysis of several recently published methods for quantifying the uncertainty in economic evaluations due to uncertainty in future oil prices. Conventional price forecasting methods used in the industry typically underestimate the range of uncertainty in oil and gas price forecasts. These forecasts traditionally consider pessimistic, most-likely, and optimistic cases in an attempt to quantify economic uncertainty. The recently developed alternative methods have their unique strengths as well as weaknesses that may affect their applicability in particular situations. While stochastic methods can improve the assessment of price uncertainty they can also be tedious to implement. The inverted hockey stick method is found to be an easily applied alternative to the stochastic methods. However, the primary basis for validating this method has been found to be unreliable. In this study, a consistent and reliable validation of uncertainty estimates predicted by the inverted hockey stick method is presented. Verifying the reliability of this model will ensure reliable quantification of economic uncertainty. Although we cannot eliminate uncertainty from investment evaluations, we can better quantify the uncertainty by accurately predicting the volatility in future oil and gas prices. Reliably quantifying economic uncertainty will enable operators to make better decisions and allocate their capital with increased efficiency.

Core self-evaluations and job insecurity of employees in a government organisation / Maryka Annelize Maree

Maree, Maryka Annelize January 2004 (has links)
The primary objective of this research was to investigate the relationship between core self evaluations and job insecurity of employees (N = 298) at a government organisation. A cross-sectional survey design was used. Constructs were measured by means of the Core Self-evaluations Scale (CSES), the Job Insecurity Survey Inventory (JISI), and a biographical questionnaire. Results indicated that a practically significant negative relationship exists between self evaluations and job insecurity. It further found that a self evaluation holds some predictive value with regard to job insecurity. / Thesis (M.A. (Industrial Psychology))--North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2005.

Design, performance and fit of fabrics for female body armour

Yang, Dan January 2011 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the development of a new technique which enables a novel type of front panel for female body armour to be engineered, providing female contour, high level protection, and therefore comfort in wearing. The traditional cutting and stitching method can be used to form a dome shape to accommodate the bust area but it gives rise to weakness against projectile impact at the seams. A novel type of fabric with the advantage in mouldability is needed as an alternative to the conventional plain woven fabric in making female body armour without the need of cutting or folding but ease in manufacture. Dome-shaped fabric and angle-interlock woven fabric are two potential candidates. The analysis and comparisons determine the selection of the fabric with superior dome depth which is more suitable for the female body armour application. Ballistic evaluations on the selected fabric were carried out from two aspects: the overall ballistic performance investigation and the parametric study. The result provided a better understanding of kinetic energy absorption capability of single-piece selected fabrics. Additionally, the ballistic performance of fabric panels was further evaluated in the factory in order to ensure the selected fabric could achieve the commercial requirement. After the investigations of mouldability and ballistic resistance of the selected fabric, a mathematical model was created, which determines the pattern geometry for the front panel of the female body armour. This mathematical model takes the body figure size and bra size as the input, and the output is the profile of the front panel of female body armour. This work enables the speedy creation of a front panel of the female body armour in the selected fabric. This is an important advance and a novel approach for making seamless female body armour with satisfactory ballistic performance.
