Cicillini, Daniele Aparecida 11 October 2007 (has links)
This dissertation presents and implements a scheduling algorithm for the Foundation Fieldbus technology. The algorithm named FFSMART schedules cyclic or periodic communication messages among field devices connected to a fieldbus. The FFSMART is a pre-runtime scheduling algorithm, which allows meeting the restrictions of precedence from function blocks, customizing and optimizing the use of the system resources. The algorithm was implemented using the Visual Basic programming language and validated in a real application environment using configuration strategies, and the results were satisfactory.

A “SMART SENSOR” BUS FOR DATA ACQUISITION

Eccles, Lee H. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / This paper discusses a “Smart Sensor” interface being developed for use in the Boeing Company. Several laboratory groups and Flight Test have joined in a study to define such an interface. It will allow a data acquisition system to record data from a large number of “Smart Sensors”. A single pair of wires will form a bus to interface the sensors to the data system. Most systems will need more than one bus. Some needs exist for "Smart Actuators" as well to allow for closed loop control within the laboratories. The process control industry has developed several candidate busses. The groups are now in the process of evaluating the capabilities of the available busses to see which ones, if any, will do our job. To see if anyone else has similar needs, these requirements and the candidate busses are being shared. The goal is to see if some form of cooperation is possible.

Power line communication systems for industrial control applications

Morris, Kerry John January 2001 (has links)
For almost as long as the electricity distribution industry itself has existed, so also has the idea of utilising the transmission grid, be it over a wide area or on a local basis, for the transmission of 'intelligence'. This might be in the form of voice transmissions, or for the purposes of monitoring or controlling electrical devices attached to the network. This thesis specifically concerns itself with the potential applications of power-line-carrier (PLC) communications technology within the field of industrial plant/equipment control, as it is within this field that the author works. We look at the entire subject area of industrial control, starting from a historical viewpoint, and consider the special needs and requirements that a proposed PLC solution must offer for this application, especially based on the noise conditions likely to be experienced on a `real' power line. A proposal is made for a `Power Bus', intended for use within certain areas of industrial control, and decisions are made based on the projected link response times for such applications. The experimental phase of the research is practical in nature and consists of a raft of tests and evaluations of the performance of power line modem technologies, under controlled and repeatable noise conditions. To complement these results, further tests are carried out under `real world' conditions, within an actual factory environment. Based on the results of all of these tests, the suitability of a PLC solution for this type of industrial control application is considered. The Thesis concludes with a look at recent developments in, as well as the future of, Power Line Communication techniques.

Developing a decentralized peripheral Profibus core for a Xilinx FPGA / Roelof Jacobus Burger

Burger, Roelof Jacobus January 2010 (has links)
The McTronX research group of the North–West University has over some years established a knowledge base in active magnetic bearing (AMB) systems. In 2009, an AMB system that met industrial standards in being robust, reliable and economical was developed by the research group. The digital control of the AMB system was implemented with the use of a dedicated single–board computer and communication hardware that interface with the motor drive electronics, power amplifiers and sensor drive units of the AMB system. A Xilinx® field programmable gate array (FPGA), connected to the single–board computer, was used to control the AMB system. The AMB system was designed to be used in a helium blower application and to form a basis for AMB and digital control research. A programmable logic controller (PLC) is connected to the controller to operate the AMB system. To establish communication between the PLC and the FPGA, the Fieldbus standard PROFIBUS DP was chosen as being a robust industrial standard communication protocol. To reduce the cost of the entire system, the need arose to implement the PROFIBUS DP protocol on the current FPGA of the system. This project involves the research, design, implementation, verification and validation of the PROFIBUS DP protocol on a Xilinx® Virtex©–5 FPGA. The PROFIBUS DP standard was researched, analyzed and developed in VHDL for the specific Xilinx® Virtex©–5 FPGA. The implemented protocol is used to establish a standardized PROFIBUS DP network between the PLC and the FPGA controller. Through simulation the basic protocol was tested and later implemented in the real–time environment. Intensive verification and validation was done to ensure that the developed protocol conforms to the robust PROFIBUS DP standard and simultaneously meet the requirements and specifications of the AMB control system. This dissertation documents the entire PROFIBUS implementation process, from standard analysis through to verification and validation of the developed protocol. In conclusion, the developed protocol is compared against a commercial off–the–shelf PROFIBUS PMC module. It was found that the VHDL–based PROFIBUS DP protocol not only competes well with the commercial PROFIBUS device, but also outperforms the device in various aspects. / Thesis (M.Ing. Desenvolvimento e implementação de uma ferramenta computacional aplicada no processo de identificação de sistemas em ambientes Fieldbus foundation / Development and implementation of a computational tool applied to the system identification process in a Fieldbus foundation environment

Cunha, Márcio José da 06 October 2004 (has links)
Experimental system identification techniques are considered interesting by industrial sector due to the simple approach to adjust mathematical models, making it easy the formulation and the solution of process control problems. In this work a computational tool is proposed, the Sintonizador, based on the experimental technic of System Identification, using the linear mathematical structure ARX (Auto-Regressive with eXogenous inputs). The ARX structure parameters are estimated by RLS (Recursive Least Square) algorithm. The data comunication and data aquisition of the fieldbus network has been done through of the OPC comunication standard.

Among existing automation networks, most prominent standard is the Foundation Fieldbus (FF). This particular standard was chosen for the development of this work thanks to its complete application layer specification and its user interface, organized as function blocks and that allows interoperability among different vendors' devices. Nowadays, one of most seeked solutions on industrial automation are the indirect measurements, that consist in infering a value from measures of other sensors. This can be made through implementation of the so-called software sensors. One of the most used tools in this project and in sensor implementation are artificial neural networks. The absence of a standard solution to implement neural networks in FF environment makes impossible the development of a field-indirect-measurement project, besides other projects involving neural networks, unless a closed proprietary solution is used, which dos not guarantee interoperability among network devices, specially if those are from different vendors. In order to keep the interoperability, this work's goal is develop a solution that implements artificial neural networks in Foundation Fieldbus industrial network environment, based on standard function blocks. Along the work, some results of the solution's implementation are also presented / As redes para automa??o industrial v?m se destacando e substituindo aos poucos as arquiteturas mais antigas dos sistemas utilizados na ?rea de automa??o.
