Sociologie genocidy v Německé jihozápadní Africe / Sociology of genocide in German South West AfricaBauer, Karel January 2021 (has links)
The main focus of this work is genocide in one of the former German colonies. German South West Africa, in the present day known as Namibia, faced such a frightening event at the beginning of 20th century that very few situations in human history can compare to it. This work tries to bring the reader closer to the situation in southwest Africa in the period of German colonialism, especially to the genocide of the Herero and Nama nations. The main goal of this diploma thesis is based on defining the term genocide and the description of contemporary events in German South West Africa. The key aim is to find certain connections between genocide committed by the German Empire in German South West Africa and genocide perpetrated several decades later by Nazi Germany in Eastern Europe during Second Word War.

Vizuální rámcování rwandské genocidy v roce 1994 / Visual framing of rwandan genocide in 1994Macků, Anna January 2021 (has links)
The thesis deals with the issue of photographs taken during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. The ethnically motivated conflict, in which the Hutu majority tried to exterminate the Tutsi minority, claimed almost a million victims in a hundred days. The Rwandan genocide is notoriously associated with machetes and radio. Most of the victims were killed with primitive weapons, and the murders of neighbours and family members took place under the influence of a propaganda radio broadcast. The thesis describes how photojournalism in the 1990s reported on such a specific conflict as modern genocide. The thesis uses visual framing analysis, which is based on the theory of framing. After that it was possible to identify the recurring visual frames through which the Rwandan genocide is depicted in the images.

Guatemala pod nadvládou Efraína Ríose Montta a její vyrovnání se s minulostí / Guatemala under the rule of Efraín Ríos Montt and its coming to terms with the pastHoušková, Petra January 2021 (has links)
One of the most violent periods of the Guatemalan civil war was the government of General Efraín Ríos Montt in the early 1980s, which went down in history with the sad legacy of genocide, large-scale displacement and other war crimes. Most of them have never been investigated or punished. The breakthrough of impunity was the accession of Claudia Paz y Paz to the head of the public prosecutor's office. Trial with Ríos Montt became the most exposed one. Despite the subsequent annulment of the incriminating verdict, this process was an important milestone in Guatemalan justice, but also in international law, contributing several key precedents. Ríos Montt became the first head of state to be convicted of genocide by a domestic tribunal. This work deals with the factors that influenced the war crimes prosecutions after the signing of peace agreements and analyzes the importance of the trial of Ríos Montt in the Guatemalan coming to terms with the past by the state. Key Words Guatemala, Efraín Ríos Montt, genocide, impunity, transitional justice

Politický vývoj v Demokratické republice Kongo od roku 1960 do současnosti, dopady na vztahy v regionu / Political development in the Democratic republic of the Congo since 1960 until today, impacts on the inter-state relations in the regionCahlíková, Tereza January 2009 (has links)
In my diploma thesis I try for an objective evaluation and analysis of the history of the Democratic republic of the Congo since the year 1960, when the country gained its independence from Belgium, until the first years of the 21st century. The whole time period of 50 years of the existence of the country is divided into several intervals according to important events, which influenced the country's political development. Consequently one chapter of the thesis is devoted to each time period. In the conclusion of my thesis I try to evaluate the contemporary situation in the Democratic republic of the Congo and suggest solutions for the future.

Vývoj ve Rwandě po genocidě v roce 1994 / The development in Rwanda after genocide in 1994Švehlová, Eva January 2011 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the post-conflict development in Rwanda and its main aim is to evaluate the tools adopted after the genocide in 1994 for the purpose of preventing recurrence of any similar conflict in the future. The thesis mostly concentrates on the process of justice (on the international, national and local level) and on the process of reconciliation of the polarized society in Rwanda as two key components of the post-conflict reconstruction. On the basis of the results derived from the detailed analysis of the tools from security, social, economic and political area, the thesis answers the asked question if the future conflict in Rwanda is nowadays hardly probable (thanks to effective and successful activity of the adopted measures) or if there is, on the contrary, some ethnic tension in Rwanda which could become the reason for repeating of any wave of violence in short- or medium-term.

Příčiny genocidy ve Rwandě: Psychologické aspekty / Causes of genocide in Rwanda: Psychological aspectsBurešová, Jana January 2012 (has links)
Ethnic discrimination has deep roots in Rwanda. For many dozens of years, Tutsis have been marked down as those whose task it is to rule the country and Hutus have been treated as those who have to submit to it. As time moved on, Hutu hatred had been growing steadily and resulted in coup d'état in 1959 and consequent persecutions of Tutsis. However, hidden grudge lingered on. The pretext for its revival was the RPF incursion into the country at the beginning of nineties. The invasion also became one of the major preconditions of the fastest genocide in history. This thesis aims to pinpoint actors with direct and also indirect influence, to specify their motives, to assess implications of their decisions and on the grounds of this all to divide them into groups of perpetrators, bystanders and rescuers. The identification of psychological aspects of Hutu perpetrators was made with intent to analyse the process of Us-Them thinking with its typical features and consequences and the process of dehumanization with particular emphasis on its linguistic forms. In connection with that, this thesis points out crucial importance of Rwandan media of hate which determined anti-Tutsi propaganda to a considerable extent.

Politická mobilizace etnicity ve Rwandě / Political mobilization of ethnicity in RwandaDucháč, Aleš January 2015 (has links)
The master thesis Political mobilization of ethnicity in Rwanda examines the content of radio broadcasts that played an infamous role in spreading the hatred aimed against the Tutsi minority before and during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. For the purposes of this study, the method of thematic analysis was employed. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part of the thesis begins with the conceptualization of key terms including their theoretical underpinnings. Following the theoretical part, the next section contains historical analysis of Hutu-Tutsi relationship while mapping both its origins and subsequent development. The second, practical part of this work studies the discourse of Rwandan radio station Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines that played an essential role in inciting hatred towards the Tutsi minority and subsequent Hutu mobilization during the genocide. The core of this part comprises thematic analysis of English radio broadcasts transcripts, which aired in the period of 1993-1994 when this radio existed. The aim of this work is to shed light on how ethnicity was mobilized before and during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Initial understanding of the historical development of a highly complex relationship between the Hutu and the Tutsi will help to explain what caused...

Reflexe genocidy českých židů od roku 1945 do současnosti (Analýza národních příběhů hostitelských zemí obětí holokaustu a vliv na jejich individuální válečné svědectví) / Reflection of the Genocide of Czech Jews from 1945 until Present Times (The Analysis of the National Stories of Holocaust Survivors Host Countries and Influence on Their Individual War Testimonies)Roubínek, Jan January 2015 (has links)
(in English): My goal is to demonstrate that witnesses of certain historical events can describe their experiences in a variety of ways without distorting actual facts. The subject of my research is a reflection of the Czech Jewry Genocide through the eyes of a generation born during the so-called first Czechoslovak Republic. On the day of their liberation, Czech Jews who had survived Shoah were mainly unified in the fundamental aspects of the perception of their past in Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camps, regardless of whether their native tongue was Czech or German. What's more, any ideological differences that could have possibly existed between them in pre-war years, ceased being important under the influence of a common fate. It is fair to say then, that from the viewpoint of Czech Shoah Survivors in 1945, they constituted a relatively unified group but not for much longer. After the end of WWII, these people returned to the newly established Czechoslovak Republic and the point of view within the groups gradually began to vary. For some, the new regime had fulfilled their expectations. The majority of Czech Jews however, chose to emigrate after the Communist Coup d'etat and in time began to share their war experiences. The Jews in the Czech Republic began telling their stories as well....

Historie terezínských transportů Dl a Dm do Osvětimi / History of the transports Dl and Dm from Teresienstadt to AuschwitzStrmisková, Sabina January 2011 (has links)
The theme of this thesis is the history of two transports, transports Dl and Dm dispatched september 6 1943 from ghetto Terezín to Auschwitz. It is possible to find a lot of information in many publications, but this thesis introduces this subject throught testimonies of eyewitnesses. Starting with the family background, continuing with deportation to Theresienstadt from where the transports were dispatched. Concerning the transport to Auschwitz, I elaborated its characteristics looking at the age and sex of the transported inmates. Due to the witness's testimonies, I tried to concentrate on the history of two day's journey to the biggest extermination camp during the second world war. And the eyewitness's testimonies are illustrating all the welcoming ceremony, the desinfection, tattoo and dormitory allocation. In my thesis, I would like to describe the Terezin inmates' biannual stay in family camp B IIb, tragical death of 3 792 of them at night of 8 to 9 March 1944, seeking to recreate the Dr. Mengele's list of medical personnel and twins. Finally, I would like to emphasise the fate of 41 survivors of those transports.
