AnÃlise integrada na bacia hidrogrÃfica do rio Pirangi-CE: subsÃdios para o planejamento ambiental / Integrated analysis in river basin Pirangi-CE: subsidies for environmental planning

The aim of this paper is to perform a geo-environmental analysis of the Pirangi watershed, including an integrated diagnosis for the evaluation of the applicability of proposals for environmental planning, based on vulnerability, potentialities and limitations of geo-environmental units, with the goal to elaborate a management plan that could collaborate with the area of study. This research was developed within the perspective of integrated watershed analysis. Cartographic techniques and field survey methods permitted the execution of this project. Maps on a scale of 1:450.000 that referred to the geo-environmental contextualization of the watershed were produced. The integration of these different maps helped to delimit the geo-environmental units: coastal plains, pre-coastal sedimentary rocks, sedimentary rocks in the backlands, residual crests, the Sertaneja depression, and fluvial plains. The following phase consisted of the identification of the land use and occupation and, consequentially, the environmental impacts in the area. The combination of the maps resulted in the identification and mapping of five natural and environmental vulnerability classes in the watershed (very low, low, moderate, high, and very high) and the characterization of the potentialities and limitations of the area. The study concludes with a set of proposals for environmental planning by environmental zoning consisting of four zones that go beyond the areas of permanent preservation of the creeks, rivers, and water bodies: environmental preservation, controlled use and environmental conservation, intensive use and environmental recovery. The intention of this research is to contribute to the field of integrated watershed analysis as support for environmental planning.
