The electronics sector finds itself on both sides of this equation, as it offers products which are highly-desired by consumers, but which, if not discarded appropriately after use, can have a drastic impact on the environment. In an attempt to minimize this impact, companies in this sector are applying practices of coopetition in order to make the reverse supply chain management more efficient. The present study aims, based in the approach taken by authors that researched the reverse supply chain management and reverse logistics, to ascertain the role of coopetition in the relationship between the reverse supply chain management and operational performance. The methodological procedure was structured in three stages. The first was the expansion of knowledge on the subjects in order to support the development of a survey instrument considering the theoretical framework on the topic. The next phase was a qualitative study with four interviewees undertaken to adjust the survey instrument’s statements to the context of Brazil’s electronics industry. The third phase, that of quantitative descriptive analysis, consisted of the application of the survey instrument to a sample of professionals from the electronics sector; 75 completed questionnaires were returned. After the descriptive statistical treatment and the application of techniques of factorial analysis and modelling of structural equations, the study indicated there to be a positive relation between the reverse supply chain management and operational performance, and that coopetition, when included in the model, had a partial mediating role in this relationship, which was confirmed using the Sobel test. Accordingly, this study’s results enabled us to conclude that coopetition had a partial mediating role in the relationship between the reverse supply chain management and its operational performance. One implication of this study is that organizations in the electronics sector can increase the performance of their reverse logistics operations by arranging coopetition agreements, which tends to lead to a strengthening of the institutional image of the sector as a whole. / A sociedade está buscando encontrar o equilíbrio entre um alto nível de consumo e a sustentabilidade do planeta e o setor de eletroeletrônicos está presente nos dois lados dessa equação oferecendo produtos muito desejados pelos consumidores, mas que, se não tiverem um descarte apropriado após o seu consumo, podem impactar o meio ambiente drasticamente. Buscando minimizar este impacto, empresas deste setor estão aplicando as práticas de coopetição para tornar a gestão da cadeia de suprimentos reversa mais eficiente. O objetivo deste estudo, baseado na abordagem de autores da gestão da cadeia de suprimentos reversa e logística reversa, é verificar o papel da coopetição na relação entre o gerenciamento da cadeia de suprimentos reversa e o desempenho operacional. O procedimento metodológico foi estruturado em três etapas, sendo a primeira delas a expansão do conhecimento dos temas para subsidiar o desenvolvimento de um instrumento de coleta de dados considerando o referencial teórico sobre o assunto. A fase seguinte foi um estudo qualitativo realizado com quatro entrevistados para ajustar as assertivas do instrumento de coleta de dados à realidade do setor de eletroeletrônicos do País. A terceira fase, quantitativa descritiva, foi constituída pela aplicação do instrumento de coleta a uma amostra de profissionais do setor de eletroeletrônicos, com o retorno de 75 questionários preenchidos. Após o tratamento estatístico descritivo e a aplicação de técnicas de análise fatorial e modelagem de equações estruturais, o estudo indicou haver uma relação positiva entre a gestão da cadeia de suprimentos reversa e o desempenho operacional, e que a coopetição, ao ser inclusa no modelo, teve um papel mediador parcial nesta relação, o que foi ratificado no teste de Sobel. Assim, os resultados desta pesquisa autorizaram a concluir que a coopetição teve papel mediador parcial na relação entre a gestão da cadeia de suprimentos reversa e o seu desempenho operacional. Como implicação deste estudo, as organizações do setor de eletroeletrônicos podem aumentar o desempenho de suas operações de logística reversa fazendo acordos de coopetição, o que tende a gerar um fortalecimento da imagem institucional do setor como um todo.
