Excerpt: In late October 1465 the Florentine patricin Giannozzo Pandolfini died, leaving behind a wife and five learned sons

This article publishes a new text by Giannozzo Manetti and places it into the political, diplomatic, and biographical context from which it emerged. Manetti’s “Panegyric to King Alfonso” was written for the occasion of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III’s visit to Naples in the spring of 1452. This article and the accompanying first edition of Manetti’s treatise add new insights into the events of mid-Quattrocento Italy that led to Manetti’s voluntary exile from Florence, in addition to a new chapter in the narrative of patrician resistance to the consolidation of political power in Florence under Cosimo de’ Medici and his allies.

Bisher wurde angenommen, dass das Werk „Dialogo consolatorio“ von Giannozzo Manetti, einem florentinischen Humanisten des XIV.-XV. Jahrhunderts, in acht diversen Manuskripten (die sich in Rom, Florenz und Turin befinden) überliefert ist. Allerdings stellte sich mit der Entdeckung der bisher unbekannten Handschrift mit der Signatur Mscr.Dresd.Ob8, heraus, dass sich ein neuntes Exemplar dieses Werks in der Sächsischen Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB) befindet. Als diese Handschrift dank des Bibliothekars Johann Christian Götze ihren Weg nach Dresden fand, hatte diese auch sprachliche, kulturelle und literaturgeschichtliche Einflüsse auf den Dresdner Hof, wie auch das Korpus der italienischen Handschriften in seiner Gesamtheit die Beziehungen zwischen Dresden und unterschiedlichen italienischen Städten bestimmt hat. Die „Wanderung“ der Handschriften war maßgeblich beteiligt an der wechselseitigen sprachlichen und kulturellen Beeinflussung beider Länder sowie am regen Ausbau der jahrhundertlangen Beziehungen zueinander.:PREMESSA.
