Diplomová práce je zaměřena na téma homosexuality a LGBT diskurzu v 90. letech v ČR prostřednictvím analýzy časopisu Promluv. V teoretické části jsou představeny stěžejní koncepty a teoretická východiska, která při zkoumání konceptu homosexuality obecně není možné z genderového hlediska opomenout. Dále je téma zasazeno do historického kontextu. Empirická část zahrnuje kromě popisu metodologie také diskurzivní analýzu časopisu Promluv. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda a jak se časopis Promluv vymezoval převládajícím diskurzům týkajících se politiky identit, sexuality a feminismu. Analytická část je rozdělena do pěti oblastí výzkumu. This thesis raises the question to what extent remains lesbian identity relevant as a stigma in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part shows how sexuality and homosexuality in particular is influenced and shaped by society. I draw predominantly from scientific texts of foreign origin and for information relating to the Czech Republic I draw from Czech resources. My approach to the study of sexuality is constructivist. The research part of my study I drew from the analysis of semi-structured interviews with lesbian women. Initially, I offered an insight on what it means to be lesbian by the bearers of lesbian identities themselves. In the central part of my study, I explained in what context and why are the lesbian identities usually experienced as a stigma. As part of everyday life lesbian identity manifests itself as a stigma especially when a lesbian did not come out and treats her own identity as a stigma herself. By doing so she brings tension into interactions, especially with people who she is closer with, because she constantly deals with the control of information about her lesbian identity. This thesis is concerned with the question of gender identification in drag culture. The research, upon which this work is based, focuses on Czech drag queens that participate in drag (travesti) show in an LGBTQ+ enterprise in Prague. In my research, I have attempted to grasp the motivation of my informants to do drag, their connection to queer culture and the ways in which they create their own aesthetic on stage. With the help of these topics, I approach the problem of their gender identification, both in and out of drag. On the basis of the collected fieldwork material and relevant literature, I problematize gender identification among my informants. On the basis of such identification, I furthermore attempt to demonstrate limitations and shortcomings of the heteronormative framework of gender performativity, gender performance and gender identification in general. The thesis describes the process of coming out in non-heterosexual people, its development and importance in heteronormative societies. It focuses on the overall inclusivity, destigmatization and detabuization of non-heterosexual people in the society as well as in the scientific research. The theoretic part presents firstly the original models describing coming out as a linear development with a clear ending and secondly the current concept perceiving coming out as a complex psycho-social-sexual process, not necessarily one-directional nor terminable. The key part of the secondly named approach are eight developmental milestones which in some way appear during the process of coming out in most non-heterosexual people. The empirical part focuses on coming out in Czech society, mostly on the search for common topics which can be found during its course and the description of their specific form in the participants of the study. Qualitative empirical design, specifically semi-structured in-depth interviews and thematic analysis were used for these purposes. The results partly correspond with the developmental milestones described in the theoretic part, but new topics - specific for the Czech society - appear as well. The aim of the thesis is to analyse Virginia Woolf's novels and non-fiction in light of several recent trends in feminism and gender theory relevant to her work. The thesis considers Woolf's label of a feminist writer from a contemporary perspective. It examines a variety of ways in which her writing poses a challenge to patriarchal values regarding the treatment and representation of women. Woolf's position regarding gender issues, women and feminism is not monolithic or unified which must be accounted for. At points, some of her stances can be seen as problematic from a present-day feminist perspective. At the same time, in her work she raises concerns which have been relevant for and expanded by proponents of contemporary feminism and gender theory. The thesis focuses on three areas regarding gender awareness and representation in Woolf's work. They are her narrative style, the sociopolitical context of her work and the questioning of gender categories. Woolf's narrative style and strategies are viewed in light of écriture féminine as conceptualised by Hélène Cixous. This diploma thesis deals with experiences and ideas of parenting trans*'s persons in the context of their identity. I primarily follow feminist theories and constructivist paradigm, where the research being realized through semi-structured interviews. In the theoretical part I define the basic terms and concepts on which my work is based. I focus on the conceptualization of trans* identities, on the concept of transsexuality in the Czech medical and socio-legal discourse, as well as on their limits in terms of gender perspective. Furthermore, I present the partnership and sexual relations of trans* persons, which then lead me to parenthood itself in the context of trans * identities. Finally, I deal with the coming-out process, especially with a focus on offspring. Within the analytical part I am interested in the attitude of trans* people to prevent reproductive function as the legal condition of gender transition, what reproductive ways and ways of parenting they choose, what obstacles they encounter in the context of parenthood and how they perform their parental role. Drawing on rigorous foreign, both Western and non-Western, literature, this thesis introduces sexuality and its connected spatial conceptualizations to Czech geography. In the beginning of the theoretical part, I discuss the framework under which geography studies sexuality. Then, I discuss the crucial terminology while pointing out at some changes in it. After understanding some of the major terminological issues, I delve into a description of the multiple and diverse development of sexuality related geographies. Focusing on queer geography, I delineate the queer standpoint and concentrate on understanding the spatial construction of sexuality in space while unveiling the heteronormativity of space. Using the queer approach, I implicitly deconstruct the binary of public and private space by pointing out at its spuriousness regarding the sexuality. I present a queer bar as a typical queer space while revealing the sexual closetedness of LGBTIQ people. Then I introduce the school environment as, for the time being, a typical heteronormative space and institution. In the end of the theoretical part, I discuss the queer practices of destabilizing heteronormativity both at school and in public space. The thesis is focused on prevention of homophobic bullying that can result from homophobic and hetersosexist attitudes. It is based on action research in two peer groups in 8th grade classes. The empiric part included initial mapping of knowledge of students on various sexual and gender identities and their attitudes towards non-heterosexual people via questionnaires; development and implementation of a primary prevention programme on non-heterosexual identities, heteronormativity hompphobia and homophobic bullying; evaluation of the programme via questionnaires; and final evaluation of changes of attitudes of the target group. The theoretical part covers current knowledge on the main aspects of the research toppic (bullying, homophobic bullying at school environment and peer collectives) and the area of primary prevention of negative phonemena. It is based on concepts of homophobia, heterosexism and heteronormativity.

This thesis introduces sociolinguistic phenomenon called street compliment, that has not been studied much in Czech Republic. It is a form of a comment given in public places by unacquainted persons, most commonly by men to women but not exclusively. Based in the feminist tradition the research was realized as a set of semi-structured interviews with eight female participants. The research revealed how the participants understand the phenomenon and how the heteronormative configuration of society is being perpetuated. The interpretation of street compliment as a form of a compliment is based on the discourse of female atractiveness and a strong sexual drive at males. The street compliment can be used to express sexual interest, to perform masculinity or to perform identity overall. The street compliment as a display of masculine behaviour towards a legitimate target, that is to say attractive woman, refers to the use of street compliment as a mean of disciplination of female subjects. The participants agreed that they do not utter street compliments because of its convenience. Instead they would express their interest in a group of friends without exteriorizing it. The basic concept of the thesis is an analysis of a TV programme "Q" broadcasted by the Czech Television. The programme surveys queer subculture not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad, deals with searching for identities across the genders and disrupts conventions stemming from values of the heteronormative society. The programme title refers directly to the concept of queer, which represents a social phenomenon bringing about gender and sexual diversity and plurality. The thesis looks at the genesis of the programme from its origins, to its production, its broadcasting and finally its cancellation and replacing with another format. The motivation and reasons of the production team and the management for carrying the programme through and including it in the broadcast programming is discussed here, as well as the related decision-making processes and production mechanisms or the way the authors use feminist theories and gender aspects in the programme. The thesis also takes into consideration the long-term development of the programme's ratings. The main working method is qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews with the programme's authors. In terms of media production the thesis deals with organizational practices in the programme's production.
