The diagnosis and prevention of rhodococcus equi infections in foals /

Vanniasinkam, Thirumahal. Unknown Date (has links)
Rhodococcus equi is a non-motile, Gram positive actinomycete that is ubiquitous in the environment and is recognised as one of the most significant respiratory pathogens in foals below six months of age. R. equi disease, which has a worldwide distribution, has the potential to cause devastating losses on thoroughbred studs especially as the disease can be enzootic on some farms. The aims of this study were to develop a serological test for the diagnosis of R. equi infection and identify potential vaccine candidates for the prevention of R. equi disease in foals. / Thesis (PhD)--University of South Australia, 2001
