Predicting the Onset of Cavitation in Nonsymetric Bifurcations

Daniels, Steven E. 01 May 2013 (has links)
Many existing dams in the United States were built without hydroelectric generating accessories and are now being considered for hydroelectric installations. A bifurcation is regularly used as the method for diverting the water to the new generators. With a bifurcation installed as part of the new piping system, cavitation could become a problem. Although widely used, there are no published data on cavitation characteristics or head loss coefficients for these bifurcations. Dimensional analysis has not been adequate for experimentally quantifying the cavitation potential and full scale testing is prohibitive for many large geometries. Therefore this study utilized Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in conjunction with a physical model to predict conditions that would cause the onset of cavitation. Head loss coefficients were also calculated from the CFD simulations and physical model. Based on these results, the authors have produced recommended operating conditions that will allow bifurcations to operate within safe limits of cavitation. This study was not exhaustive but presents data that has previously been unavailable and will assist designers and operators to better understand the performance of such bifurcations.

Reverzní vírová turbina / Reversible swirl turbine

Palička, Miroslav January 2020 (has links)
This diploma thesis describes hydraulic design of Swirl turbine, dedicated to be used for tidal powerplant and study possibilities of the turbine to work in turbine, reverse turbine, pump and reverse pump regime. From individual regimes, graphical characteristics of created hydraulic design were created and compared, using CFD simulations.

Návrh oběžného kola Francisovy turbiny na zadané parametry / Francis turbine runner design

Žák, Radim January 2008 (has links)
The graduation theses are focused on reconstruction of the small hydro-electric power station Harta. Design of detailed runner blading based on the parameters of the given location is part of the reconstruction. Model of the duplex Francis turbine for cast manufacturing is result of the graduation theses. Numerical description of the model was carried out using SolidWorks software.

Návrh vírové turbiny pro konkrétní lokalitu ČEZ,a.s / The design of swirl turbine for the concrete locality for ČEZ

Šebela, Radek January 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with the design of water turbine enabling optimal utilization of hydro-energetic potential of given location (barrage on Úpa river) chosen by ČEZ a.s. company. Moreover, the option of multi-unit layout is discussed. Because of the low-head profile of given location, the technology of swirl turbine in siphon configuration was chosen. Technology of swirl turbine presents new modification of Kaplan turbine with no need of guide vane. Swirl turbine is characterized by its high discharge and high speed. The main part of this thesis is focused on hydraulic design of the turbine.

Analýza rychlostních a tlakových polí kapaliny, využitím křivočarých souřadnic / Analysis of the Velocity and Pressure Fields of the Liquid Using Curvilinear Coordinates

Stejskal, Jiří January 2017 (has links)
This work introduces a new method of hydraulic design of a centrifugal pump impeller. This method is based on a geometrical approach employing curvilinear coordinates that are used to formulate both the axisymmetrical flow model in a meridional shape and the final model of flow in a blade cascade taking into account the full 3D shape of the impeller blade. The solution to this model then directly provides the guidelines for shaping the impeller blade in order to suppress the secondary flows, thus increasing the impeller efficiency, which is demonstrated on a real impeller design case. The partial differential equations describing the flow in the blade cascade are numerically solved piecewise on each particular stream surface, which leads to a significant reduction of computational time.

Návrh výměníku tepla / Design of heat exchanger

Buzík, Jiří January 2013 (has links)
The master thesis deals with thermal hydraulic design and strength design of a heat exchanger with “U” tube bundle inside of a shell. The first chapter introduces general design issues of the heat exchangers. The following chapter describes thermal hydraulic design created in software Maple 16.0 by using Kern’s method and the method of Bell-Delaware. HTRI software was used for the control of thermal hydraulic design correctness. To check critical locations of fluid flow in space between the tubes, the CFD model was created at ANSYS Fluent 14.0 software. Accuracy of strength design was verifying by Sant’ Ambrogio software in accordance with ČSN EN 13 445 standards. The last chapter concerns with FEM analysis. According to standards ČSN EN 13 445 the design by analysis namely method based on stress categories were used for the strength analysis of nozzle.
