Hyperspectral Image Processing Of Eo-1 Hyperion Data For Lithological And Mineralogical Mapping

Hyperspectral data is a powerful tool for mineral explorations and lithological discriminations. EO1-Hyperion is a space borne hyperspectral system for hyperspectral imaging which is capable of 220 spectral image channels within the range of 400 to 2500 nm wavelengths. It has advantages over airborne systems such as data cost and coverage area. Although it has many advantages, much more uncertainty exists in application period, of which this uncertainty does exist in all processing stages starting from the data preparation to the end of analysis stages. The aim of this thesis is to state the potential use of Hyperion data for lithological and mineralogical discriminations to further develop new hyperspectral image processing approach, and to improve existing preprocessing method in literature. The proposed algorithm is mainly based on atmospheric corrections and cross track illumination correction of Hyperion data. In order to achieve this, two test sites were selected. Site 1 located on the Central Anatolia, (Ekecek test site) is used for lithological discrimination and Site 2 located on West Anatolia (Biga test site) is used for mineralogical discrimination. The obtained results were compared and assessed with the field verifications, spectral measurements and existing spectral libraries. In the end of the study it is found that when proposed approach is followed hyperspectral data is proven to be a useful tool for mineralogical discrimination in mono minerallic outcrops and valuable for lithological mapping in relatively homogenous un-covered outcrops.

To reach the proposed objective, a hyperspectral imagery of EO-1/Hyperion orbital sensor was acquired simultaneously with limnological variables collected in some points in the body of water. After correcting the atmospheric effects, in the geographical locations of those points, spectral curves of the hyperspectral image were extracted, in which techniques of spectral analysis were applied, such as, continuum removal, derivative analysis and ratio analysis. The data collected by these sensors can be transformed into information about different vegetation covers that are related to biophysical aspects of vegetation. Vegetation being an important element of ecosystems, their studies gain emphasis, especially for seeking knowledge about its variations, distributional patterns, cycles, physiological and morphological changes. With this data was used Hyperion that enables the acquisition of data sufficient to reconstruct absorption bands in the spectra of the pixels associated with the chlorophyll content, water content in leaves and features of lignin and cellulose spectral resolution, which may be important parameters in differentiating vegetation types . On the other hand the poor signal to noise ratio ( SNR) of the sensor, especially in the SWIR, relationship is an obstacle to proper measurement of these features without interference from noise. This research aimed to conduct an analysis of the spectral response of the sensor with the Hyperion plant communities present in the Ducke Reserve (Forest plateau, slope, and lowland campinarana) and quantified by means of unsupervised classification of these communities. Using ENVI Flaash application, atmospheric correction was performed based on the radiative transfer model MODTRAN - 4. Floristic characterization of the study area was raised regarding esttudos related flora of the Reserve. It was possible to perform a summary analysis of the spectral characteristics of the sensor as present an interaction with vegetation between the near infrared (0,7 - 2,5μm) and middle infrared (3 - 6μm), where we can distinguish stage of phenology, canopy structure and water content on leaf responses in four plant communities. / O sensoriamento remoto hiperespectral permite obter medidas radiométricas de um alvo em um grande número de estreitas bandas espectrais. Os dados coletados por estes sensores podem ser transformados em informações sobre diferentes coberturas vegetais que estão relacionadas com aspectos biofísicos da vegetação. Sendo a vegetação um importante elemento dos ecossistemas, seus estudos ganham ênfase, sobretudo, por buscarem conhecimentos acerca de suas variações, padrões distributivos, ciclos, modificações fisiológicas e morfológicas. Com isso foi utilizado dados do sensor Hyperion que possibilita a aquisição de dados com resolução espectral suficiente para reconstruir bandas de absorção nos espectros dos pixels relacionados com o conteúdo de clorofila, teor de água nas folhas e feições de lignina e celulose, as quais podem ser parâmetros importantes na diferenciação de tipologias vegetais. Por outro lado, a pobre relação sinal-ruído (SNR) do sensor, especialmente no SWIR, é um obstáculo para a medição adequada dessas feições sem a interferência de ruídos. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo realizar uma análise da resposta espectral do sensor Hyperion com as comunidades vegetais presentes na Reserva Ducke (Floresta de platô, declividade, campinarana e baixio) e quantificar por meio de classificação não-supervisionada essas comunidades. Utilizando o aplicativo FLAASH do ENVI, foi realizada a correção atmosférica baseando-se no modelo de transferência radiativa MODTRAN-4. Na caracterização florística da área de estudo foi levantado estudos relacionados referente a flora da Reserva. Foi possível realizar uma análise sucinta das características das respostas espectrais, pois o sensor apresente uma interação com a vegetação entre o Infravermelho próximo (0,7 - 2,5μm) e o Infravermelho médio (3 - 6μm), onde podemos distinguir o estágio de fenologia, estrutura do dossel e quantidade de água na folha nas quatro comunidades vegetais.

Using satellite hyperspectral imagery to map soil organic matter, total nitrogen and total phosphorus

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Up-to-date and accurate information on soil properties is important for precision farming and environmental management. The spatial information of soil properties allows adjustments of fertilizer applications to be made based on knowledge of local field conditions, thereby maximizing agricultural productivity and minimizing the risk of environmental pollution. While conventional soil sampling procedures are labor-intensive, time-consuming and expensive, remote sensing techniques provide a rapid and efficient tool for mapping soil properties. This study aimed at examining the capacity of hyperspectral reflectance data for mapping soil organic matter (SOM), total nitrogen (N) and total phosphorus (P). Soil samples collected from Eagle Creek Watershed, Cicero Creek Watershed, and Fall Creek Watershed were analyzed for organic matter content, total N and total P; their corresponding spectral reflectance was measured in the laboratory before and after oven drying and in the field using Analytical Spectral Devices spectrometer. Hyperion images for each of the watersheds were acquired, calibrated and corrected and Hyperion image spectra for individual sampled sites were extracted. These hyperspectral reflectance data were related to SOM, total N and total P concentration through partial least squares (PLS) regressions. The samples were split into two datasets: one for calibration, and the other for validation. High PLS performance was observed during the calibration for SOM and total N regardless of the type of the reflectance spectra, and for total P with Hyperion image spectra. The validation of PLS models was carried out with each type of reflectance to assess their predictive power. For laboratory reflectance spectra, PLS models of SOM and total N resulted in higher R2 values and lower RMSEP with oven-dried than those with field-moist soils. The results demonstrate that soil moisture degrades the performance of PLS in estimating soil constituents with spectral reflectance. For in-situ field spectra, PLS estimated SOM with an R2 of 0.74, N with an R2 of 0.79, and P with an R2 of 0.60. For Hyperion image spectra, PLS predictive models yielded an R2 of 0.74 between measured and predicted SOM, an R2 of 0.72 between measured and predicted total N, and an R2 of 0.67 between measured and predicted total P. These results reveal slightly decreased model performance when shifting from laboratory-measured spectra to satellite image spectra. Regardless of the spectral data, the models for estimating SOM and total N consistently outperformed those for estimating total P. These results also indicate that PLS is an effective tool for remotely estimating SOM, total N and P in agricultural soils, but more research is needed to improve the predictive power of the model when applied to satellite hyperspectral imagery.

The aim of this comparative study of Novalis' Heinrich von Ofterdingen , Holderlin's Hyperion, and Schlegel's Lucinde is to develop a comprehensive overview of the role of woman in conceptions of male subjectivity in Early German Romanticism. The reading of the novels developed here examines the Early Romantic poetics with a specific view to the conceptualizations of woman contained therein. The Early Romantic 'Project' consists in the rewriting of the subject and the world in the medium of poetry. Tanscendental poetry, the fragment, allegory, and irony are intended to invoke the presence of an absence, that is the absolute. In the concrete praxis in the novels, these concepts of Early Romantic poetics imply conceptualizations of woman. They articulate a specific approach in the encounter of the male subject with the female object. At the center of Romantic poetics lies the encounter with woman. The unique situatedness of the romantic subject is, indeed, crystallized in this encounter. / Early Romanticism is situated between Kant and Hegel. The post-Kantian subject experiences a crisis of legitimation. Lacking an unmediated access to the object, it is fragmented and threatened. Early Romanticism, however, also prefigures Hegel, inasmuch as the crisis does not consist in the loss of the object, but rather in the encounter of two subjects. The three novels are juxtaposed here because this position between the loss of the object and the crisis of the encounter with the other as subject leads to a paradoxical conceptualization of woman as an uncanny object of desire. In all three novels, the constitution of the male subject and the possibility of poetry depend on the encounter with woman. However, the possibility of woman emerging, indeed, as subject represents an extreme threat. As a consequence, the constitution of the male poetic subject requires the simultaneous assimilation of femininity and the shielding against woman. Hence, the three novels are love stories that narrate the death of woman. However, woman is fundamentally uncanny because even the presence of the dead woman represents a threat. The constitution of the male subject and novel unfolds, therefore, in three stages; the encounter with woman, the assimilation of femininity and death of woman, and the removal of any traces of that death.

This master's thesis describes functionality and principle of the Hefaistos measurement system, which is fully automated and modular. Its purpose is to measure frequency responses of materials and its temperature dependence. The thesis describes all the necessary parts of the modular measurement system. Main part of this system is the control application programmed in LabVIEW software environment. Another necessary parts are impedance analyzers for acquiring frequency dependencies and heating chambers for heating measured materials. The control application ensures hardware synchronization between impedance analyzers and heating chambers. Together they create the Hefaistos system. Modularity of the system means that a user may choose which instrument combination will be used. The system offers choice between three impedance analyzers Agilent 4294A, Wayne Kerr 6520B and HIOKI 3532 LCR Hi-Tester and two heating chambers AOIP GEMINI 700 LRI and AOIP HYPERION. Possibilities of the Hefaistos system are demonstrated on the results of an example measurement.
