Das Institut für Zeitungsforschung in Dortmund intensiviert seit einigen Jahren die Bestandserhaltung. Hierbei stehen die restauratorischen Maßnahmen – auch in Zusammenspiel durch Förderungsmöglichkeiten der Koordinierungsstelle für die Erhaltung des schriftlichen Kulturguts (KEK) –, das Magazin und die Notfallvorsorgeplanung im Zentrum. Der Beitrag beleuchtet die Maßnahmen und Projekte am Institut vor dem Hintergrund von internationalen und nationalen Standards sowie von etwaigen Kooperationspartnern.

Ist die Mikrobe im Buch – entgegen der Idee von der zerstörerischen Kontamination – auch als Teil des Kulturgutes verstehbar? Hilft sie uns ähnlich einer Sonde, frühere Orte des Buches zu lokalisieren oder Hinweise auf Nutzer zu geben? Wie hat sich die Mikrobengemeinschaft dabei selbst verändert, durch Bucheinbände, Papiere und Tinten, aber auch Lesegewohnheiten und menschliche Hygiene? Diesen Fragen widmet sich das interdisziplinäre Forschungsprojekt MIKROBIB, woraus dieser Katalog zu einer Ausstellung entstand, die digital hier zu sehen ist: https://ausstellungen.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de/kontaminierte-bibliothek/ In drei Teilen wird der Zusammenhang von Mikroben- und Buchkultur thematisiert: philosophisch, sammlungshistorisch und mikrobiologisch.
