ABSTRACT The post-modern society has emerged from the new social role of information and knowledge for the economic, technological and scientific progress. This context has brought new challenges for the deepening of educational aspects related to Information Science, through the user education in constructivist process that allow to potentiate individual information literacy. This research begins with five guiding questions: a) how is being done the process of integration of information literacy in the planning of BCE? b) Does BCE has adequate infrastructures and resources to implement information literacy programs? c) The process of training users of BCE follows internationally defined theoretical e practical models? d) What is the profile of information professionals of BCE in aspects related to lifelong education? e) Is that user education of BCE favors the development of searching skills and use of information in academic community of Eduardo Mondlane University? These issues form basis of the path of this research, which presents the results of Master Degree’s thesis in Information Science in the Post-graduation Program in Information Science of Bahia Federal University (PPGCI-UFBA). The objective was to investigate the actions of information literacy incorporation in the planning of University Library of Mozambique, having Brazão Mazula Central Library of Eduardo Mondlane University as the case of study. Adopted the theoretical framework of authors and international organizations related to information literacy, with emphasis on the American College Research Library (ACRL) and Model of User Education (MOFUS) which present models of information literacy programs, focusing on the constructivist learning process, in which individuals develop search strategies and use of information independently from a mediation process. This study was guided by process of combining techniques according the steps of the research, adopting questionnaires, interviews and direct observation as instruments for collecting data. Using quality and quantity approaches, this research found the incipient incorporation of information literacy in BCE planning, including the lack of theoretical and methodological procedures related to user education in contemporary era. These results lead us to suggest the redefinition of user education program of BCE, in order for adapting it to theoretical recommendations of information literacy. This scenario demands the lifelong learning of librarians of BCE, in order to exercise effectively their role of information mediation.

This research was focused on the speeches of the professional informal channels of communication on the Internet. The overall goal of the research is to understand the power relations that constitute the discourses of representations of the information professional in informal channels of professional communication on the Internet. The question that guided the research was: how do the speeches of the representations about the information Professional on the informal channels of professional communication on the Internet are developed? To answer this question we set the following particular goals: understanding the historical situations and the possible existing fields of dispute about the identity of the information professional; understand the theoretical and methodological foundations of French Discourse Analysis; identify blogs, websites and social networking sites dedicated to information objects and their professional fields; highlight the discursive strategies and networks of meaning in the speeches of representations about the information professional in the informal channels’s world of professional communication on the Internet. Methodologically, we used, according to the defined objectives: the theoretical and methodological foundations of French Discourse Analysis; the surveying and mapping of informal channels of professional communication on the Internet and the analysis of Sequences Discursive Autonomous. As a theoretical basis, we based ourselves on the literature of library areas, Information Science, Media and Documentation. As a result, in general, we could find networks of meaning, interpretative gestures and imaginary representations rooted in the belief in the immateriality, the "sterilization" of information, the need for "overcoming the past" and the traditional activities of the area, in the individualistic approach of the personal marketing, in the futuristic view and in the imaginary scientificity of Information Science.

The need for continuous (competency-based) training and development of library staff in a public library

Sewdass, Nisha 30 June 2003 (has links)
Staff training, education and development has come to the forefront in most organizations. Managers and employers have realized the benefits of training and developing their staff and various government initiatives have been introduced that highlight this. Library and Information Services took some time to realize the importance of training and developing their staff, more specifically continuing professional development. The study investigates staff training, education and development at the Durban Metropolitan Library (DML) and establishes the perceptions of staff about current training and development offered. The need for, and appreciation of the training and development offered, was evident. No structured program for staff training and development exist in DML. It is recommended that DML implement the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, previously known as the Library Association, Framework for Continuing Professional Development if it intends to survive in the competitive, changing environment. This will ensure that the organization functions according to the promulgated government regulations and has skilled, competent staff. / Information Science / (M.A. (Information Science))

Informační podpora práce projektových týmů / Information Support of Project Teams

Veselková, Anna January 2015 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to outline the possibilities of information support of project teams by an Informational Specialist. The theoretical part introduces different project management methodologies and further specifies the individual project phases as seen by PMBoK methodology. In the chapters focusing on each of the phases of a project, all necessary input sources as well as all output documents that are essential for the project to move on to its next phase are defined and elaborated on. This part is followed by a description of possibilities of information support for working with information sources and creating output documents with regard to competencies, which an Information Specialist should have. Key in this respect is the third and the fourth chapter, including specific proposals on the possibility of information support of a project team by an Information Specialist. The practical part is focused on the role of an Information Specialist in the implementation of a specific project in a company - in particular, a major financial institution on the Czech market. While the theoretical part is based on the study of literature, the practical part is mainly based on personal consultation with a Project Manager of the company.
