Ecology of endangered damselfly \kur{Coenagrion ornatum} in post-mining streams in relation to their restoration

The thesis explores various aspects of ecology of endangered damselfly Coenagrion ornatum, the specialists for lowland headwaters, in post-mining streams of Radovesicka spoil. The first part of thesis is manuscript which has been already submitted in Journal of Insect Conservation. In the first part, we focused on population estimate of the local population using capture-recapture method, and explored its habitat requirements across life stages and spatial scales. In the next part, I assess mobility of the focal species and reveals basic distribution patterns. Finally, the thesis suggest various implications for restoration of post-mining freshwaters and conservation of the studied species.

Pollinators in Urban Landscapes : Local and landscape factors impact on pollinator species richness and abundance

Increasing human populations results in fast-growing urbanization. Natural and semi-natural landscapes are replaced with urban landscape features like roads, sidewalks, industrial and residential buildings. The remnants of the natural landscapes are left fragmented and are often managed by frequent mowing and trimming of the vegetation. This development has had a negative impact on pollinators such as bees and wasps. Bees and wasps are pollinating insects providing an ecosystem service that sustain the global food supply. Pollinators are important also in urban landscapes where their services are needed for ecological stability and biodiversity. This study compares 23 locations in Sollentuna municipality, to investigate if species richness and abundance of bees and wasps are correlated with local factors, landscape factors or both. The available food resources are measured in buffer zones with 200m radius. Local variables are: dead wood, exposed sand, extended edge zones, flowering plant species richness and unmanaged habitat. The result showed that the landscape factor of food availability was more important for the abundance of pollinators while local variables together with the landscape factor of food availability had a positive effect on the species richness.

Stanovištní vazba nočních motýlů (Lepidoptera: Macrolepidoptera) ve stanovištně pestré přírodní rezervaci (NPR Koda, Český kras) / Habitat association of moths (Lepidoptera: Macrolepidoptera) in a structurarly diverse nature reserve (Koda National Nature Reserve, Cesky Kras)

Based on light trapping carried out in 2010, I studied moth communities of the Koda National nature reserve, part of Český kras landscape protected area, in order to compare moth communities inhabiting major biotope types within the reserve. The obtained material consisted of 295 species in 4455 individuals. Steppe enclaves hosted more species than overgrown coppices and beech-dominated high forests. Ordination analyses distinguished between steppe and forest biotopes. Steppe catches differed from forest catches in habitat associations of constituent species (more species of grassland habitats), whereas the two forest types did not differ in this. Identical patterns applied for all moths analysed together and for analyses restricted to Geometridae and Noctuidae moths. Steppic enclaves represent the most valuable sites within the Koda reserve.
