One of the essential aspects in distance learning involves the issue of interaction between teachers, students and the tools that make up this kind of teaching, with special emphasis on the discussion forums. The objective of this study is to describe interaction in a Learning Management System (LMS) forum. The investigation has its basis on Activity Theory, as proposed by Vygotsky, Leontiev and Engestrom, which claims that all action is motivated by an objective and mediated by a tool. The study, using a qualitative approach, tries to describe how ideas are exchanged in the Moodle Learning System, along with a definition of the linguistic factors that may impact them, using conversation analysis. The data from three forums in a distance course, with university students of Spanish, were collected and analyzed. The results showed that teaching, in spite of all the resources provided by the new technologies, is still centered on the teacher / A grande expansão do ensino a distância, no Brasil e no mundo, tem gerado a necessidade de mais estudos na área, não só para descrever o ensino como ele é, mas também, e principalmente, para descrever como ele deveria ser. Um dos aspectos essenciais na aprendizagem a distância envolve a questão da interação entre alunos, professores e as ferramentas que compõem esse ensino, com ênfase especial nos fóruns de discussão. O presente estudo tem por objetivo descrever a interação no fórum de um Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem (AVA). O trabalho tem como base a Teoria da Atividade, de Vygotsky, Leontiev e Engestrom, que postula que toda a ação é motivada por um objetivo e mediada por uma ferramenta. O estudo, de natureza qualitativa, busca descrever as trocas de ideias na plataforma Moodle de ensino, bem como perceber os fatores linguísticos que interferem em tal processo, com base na Análise da Conversação. Os dados de três fóruns de uma disciplina de um curso de espanhol a distância, em nível de graduação, foram coletados e analisados.
