Infrastructure systems, comprised of various assets, are central to the economic, environmental, and cultural functioning of our society. Understanding the potential impacts to these assets from various threats is fundamental to prudent strategic, operational and financial decision-making. This paper describes a methodology developed to identify the severity of impacts to various types of infrastructure located within the Tennessee State Park system when exposed to extreme weather events. It consists of the following steps: (1) defining and identifying critical park infrastructure; (2) identifying extreme weather event types experienced in Tennessee; (3) assessing damage to various types of park system infrastructure caused by these events; and (4) deriving an overall impact score associated with critical and specific types of park system infrastructure when exposed to certain types of extreme weather scenarios. It was found that hydrologic events, strong thunderstorm winds, winter storms, and in select cases, droughts, are the extreme weather events that pose the greatest risk to critical infrastructure within Tennessee State Parks. Locations that were shown to have critical infrastructure particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events include Shelby, Davidson, Wilson, Dickson, Van Buren, Lawrence, Lake, Franklin, Pickett, Carter, Putnam, Hamilton, Sullivan, and Union counties. The approach described in this article is applicable to other park systems as well as public sector assets in general and can be modified to assess other types of risk.

The coastal areas of Sweden have, during various parts of history, played a significant role in the economic and social development of the country. During this century the coastal areas have emerged as more and more attractive to different interested parties. For many people the non-urban coastal areas have gained importance as leisure time and holiday landscapes. The central authorities have perceived new values that society should gain control over and utilize, amongst other things in the form of areas for the public's outdoor recreational activities and for tourism, zones of establishment for industries and tracts of nature to be shown off as "national jewels" in international environmental contexts. This study aims at analysing how different areas of interest have focused on the Swedish coastal landscape and its coastal areas during the 20th century, which actors and outlooksthat have thereby set the tone, as well as how conflicts of interest have misen and been handled. The study can be regarded as an effort to increase knowledge about the causes and driving forces behind today's utilization, preservation and protection of the Swedish coastal landscape. At a national level interests are most frequentlyformulated from urban outlooks which, for example, the question of beach protection and the Riparian Law distinctly shows. The Riparian Law was introduced in 1950 and tbereby priority was given to the publics' recreational activities, ahead of other utilization interests in the country's coastal areas. At the local level the patterns of connection and conflict are generally complex, illustrated in this study by means of a number of local examples from bstergotland' s coastal landscape.

This creative project is a sequential series of curriculum designs that could be implemented into almost any secondary school.There it a need for drastic reform of the secondary school system in the United States and this curriculum design is an attempt to develop a systematic curriculum design that is attuned to the recommendations of the reports advocating reform in the secondary schools by a number of national and international educational organizations.These curriculum designs are aesthetically oriented and directed toward developing lifelong wholistic learners.
