Measuring cost effectiveness of product wheels in food manufacturing

Jensen, Emilie January 1900 (has links)
Master of Agribusiness / Department of Agricultural Economics / Keith Harris / The focus of this research is to create a production schedule that will increase capacity while staying within business constraints of shelf life and warehouse space in a industrial food processing environment. The results support that product wheels maximize process responsiveness by lengthening production runs, and increasing safety stock inventory. In doing so, it maintains acceptable customer service levels and minimizes overtime costs. This study develops a model that simulates the relevant variables impacting the performance of the operation. The results show significant cost reductions are achieved by eliminating changeovers, increasing line capacity, safety stock levels protect against 99% of order variation, and warehouse space is available to house increased cycle stock and safety stock. Given the results on this line, I recommend expanding the model to other food processing locations within the business to further increase capacity and decrease overtime expenses.

Podnikový nákup ve stavebnictví / Purchasing management in construction

Hrebačka, Lukáš January 2019 (has links)
The presented work relates with the purchasing management in construction. It consists of two parts. In the first part, we will focus on the theory of purchasing, then discuss the individual steps of the purchasing management and inventory management in the business. Moreover, we will bring insights from the area of suppliers - their selection and evaluation. In second, practical part, we analyze the current state of the purchasing management in selected companies. The output of attached work is a proposal for improvements and recommendations for business purchase following performed analysis.

Optimal Inventory Strategy Under Risk: A Contingent Claims Approach

Klebe, Jesse Daniel January 2019 (has links)
Inventory management in the agriculture industry involves many sources of risk in terms of demand uncertainty as well as uncertain margins. Divulging an optimal inventory strategy can prove cumbersome to logistics managers. In this thesis, inventory is viewed as a real option on the ability to operate. Contingent claims inventory (CCI) analysis, paired with stochastic binomial real option valuation, provides a model which values the real option embedded in holding inventory and iterates the purchasing strategy until expected profit is maximized. This framework is applied to three industry cases pertaining to: wheat flour milling, fertilizer merchandising, and bulk shipments via primary rail contracts.

Coordination of inventory and transportation decisions in a two-stage supply chain

Capar, Ismail 15 December 2007 (has links)
In today's competitive business world, companies face the crucial task of delivering goods on time. In order to benefit from high volumes, distributors (suppliers) try to consolidate deliveries while maintaining a high percentage of on time delivery. Increasing delivery frequencies typically increases suppliers' performance, but it also increases the transportation costs. Finding a suitable middle ground is a challenge confronting many companies throughout various supply chains. This dissertation is a study about the coordination of inventory and transportation decisions in a two-stage supply chain.

Testing the accuracy of LiDAR forest measurement replications in operational settings

Arnold, Theresa Faye 02 May 2009 (has links)
The repeatability of stand measurements derived from LiDAR data was tested in east-central Mississippi. Data collected from LiDAR missions and from ground plots were analyzed to estimate stand parameters. Two independent LiDAR missions were flown in approximate orthogonal directions. Field plots were generated where the missions overlapped, and tree data were taken in these plots. LiDAR data found 86-100% of mature pine trees, 64-81% of immature pine trees, and 63-72% of mature hardwood trees. Immature and mature pine tree heights measured from LiDAR were found to be significantly different (α= 0.05) than field measured heights. Individual tree volumes and plot volume for mature pines were precisely predicted in both flight directions. The results of this study showed that LiDAR repeatability in mature pines can be accurately achieved. But immature pine and hardwood plots were unable to match the repeatability of the mature pine plots.
