Feeding e feedback em rádio galáxias do universo local

Couto, Guilherme dos Santos January 2016 (has links)
We present integral field spectroscopic data covering the inner kiloparsecs of four radio galaxies of the local Universe (z<0:07), Arp 102B, Pictor A, 3C 33 and 4C +29.30, obtained with the GMOS-IFU instrument of the Gemini telescopes. We use these data to analyze the gas excitation and kinematics via two-dimensional maps. Using the flux distributions of the emission lines, we identify extended emission in ionized gas up to the edges of the observed field, which corresponds to 1:7kpc 2:5kpc for Arp 102B, 2:5kpc 3:4kpc for Pictor A, 4:0kpc 5:8kpc for 3C 33 and 4:3kpc 6:2kpc for 4C +29.30. The extended line emitting gas displays structures resembling rotating disks, spiral arms and bars. Line ratios indicate that both photons from the nuclear source and shocks originated in the interaction of the radio jet with circumnuclear gas are ionizing mechanisms of the gas. Line ratio values are typical of Seyfert galaxies for 3C 33 and 4C +29.30, while intermediate values between Seyferts and LINERs are observed in Arp 102B. Pictor A galaxy, however, shows low values of [N II]/Ha = 0:150:25, expected for H II regions. We suggest that these values are observed due to the low gas metallicity (12+log(O/H)= 8:39). Centroid velocity maps show that the gas kinematics is dominated by rotation only in Arp 102B and 3C 33. Outflows are observed in the galaxies Arp 102B, 3C 33 and 4C +29.30.

Time and Spatial Damping of Magnetohydrodynamic Waves in Partially Ionised Prominence Plasmas

Forteza Ferrer, Pep 11 February 2013 (has links)
The study of the effect of ion-neutral collisions on the damping of magnetohydrodynamic waves is started. We develop a set of one-fluid equations for a partially ionised plasma and use it in different plasma configurations. As a first step, the simplest plasma configuration is considered, an unbounded homogeneous partially ionised plasma. We study the temporal and spatial damping of magnetoacoustic and Alfvén waves in the case of adiabatic and non-adiabatic plasmas. While the time damping of MHD waves in adiabatic partially ionized plasmas is due to ion-neutral collisions, in the non-adiabatic case it is possible to study the importance of each of the different damping mechanisms involved. In the case of spatial damping we have considered adiabatic and non-adiabatic MHD waves in fully ionized resistive and partially ionised plasmas, and we have also included flows.
