Management uchovávání a posunu jazyka v české komunitě v Chicagu / The management of language maintenance and shift in the Czech language community in Chicago

Štěpánová, Marie January 2015 (has links)
The Master's thesis The management of language maintenance and shift in the Czech language community in Chicago examines (based on the analysis of the transcript of more than twenty hours of recordings of testimonies of thirteen speakers from Czech-speaking areas of western peripheries of American Chicago who have been living outside the Czech countries for more than forty years) the issues of language maintenance, transmission to future generations, and language shift in the expatriate community. The work analyses the environment and diverse situations of possible contact with the Czech language, reflected by the speakers, as well as the importance of national institutions (such as expatriate associations, minority schools, Czech parishes, etc.) for language maintenance of individuals. Respondents reflect also the conditions under which they were able to pass the Czech language to succeeding generations." It analyses testimonies of Czech Americans on what reactions they have received on language features showing their origin (such as foreign accent and name) and what assimilation strategies they used to moderate such stigma. The project examines, from the perspective of simple language management, how bilingual skills and the identity of respondents interact in a research interview.

Richard Rorty a hermeneutická tradice / Richard Rorty and hermenutic tradition

Kováčik, Matej January 2017 (has links)
In his opus magnum Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature, the prominent (post)analytic Richard Rorty calls for such a philosophical inquiry, thath would rather fit under the term hermeneutics, than epistemology. Hermeneutics being the trademark term of an important movement of continental philosophy, this comes as a suprise. By examining Richard Rorty's criticism of epistemology and Hans- Georg Gadamer's concept of hermeneutics, this paper tries to find out, how much do they have in common. Source texts for this research are the topic-relatively relevant texts from the books Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature and Truth and Method. In conclusion, the main difference appears to lie in their answers to the hardly solveable question of importance of the very concept of truth. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Herderova filosofie kultury. Herder a německé osvícenství / Herder's philosophy of culture. Herder and the German Enlightenment

Bojda, Martin January 2015 (has links)
This paper tries to provide an interpretation of the concept of culture in the work of one of German Enlightenment's most versatile personalities: Johann Gottfried Herder. The emphasis will be placed on this concept within the framework of a new interpretation of the historicity and essence of language as a medium of knowledge, understanding and communication, leading towards an examination of Herder's contribution to the philosophy of language and processuality as the basis of a project of an universal, but immanently historical anthropology. Furthermore, we will introduce Herder's integration of the enlightened rationality and classical metaphysics as expressed in his aesthetics and poetry. We also will reconstruct the foundations and future influence of Herder's linking of universalist humanism with the new awareness of the national and social determination of being. Namely, being as something actively and freely appropriated in an integrated manner that is however not arbitrary. Key words: Herder, Enlightenment, culture, philosophy of language

The thesis is fomulated as a case study and is methodologically based on observation, interviews and document analysis. Its aim is to provide a partial insight into the practice of Czech language teaching at scioschools and to answer how and with what goal is Czech language taught. It analyses whether some innovative methods and forms of work reflecting the current topics of Czech language didactics are applied and whether is there are any unifying concepts of Czech language teaching. While this work provides insight into these issues it concludes that scioschools aim to lead the students to so-called study autonomy. Scioschools do not work with a unified concept of teaching. It find that the current Czech language teaching practice - forms of teaching, application of innovative methods or aims are heavily influenced by the personality, knowledge and experiences of the teacher - tutor. Hledání struktury vět přirozeného jazyka pomocí částečně řízených metod / Discovering the structure of natural language sentences by semi-supervised methods

Rosa, Rudolf January 2018 (has links)
Discovering the structure of natural language sentences by semi-supervised methods Rudolf Rosa In this thesis, we focus on the problem of automatically syntactically ana- lyzing a language for which there is no syntactically annotated training data. We explore several methods for cross-lingual transfer of syntactic as well as morphological annotation, ultimately based on utilization of bilingual or multi- lingual sentence-aligned corpora and machine translation approaches. We pay particular attention to automatic estimation of the appropriateness of a source language for the analysis of a given target language, devising a novel measure based on the similarity of part-of-speech sequences frequent in the languages. The effectiveness of the presented methods has been confirmed by experiments conducted both by us as well as independently by other respectable researchers. 1
