Trinity : a study of the amalgamation of St. Mary's College and Marist Brothers' St. Joseph's High School Lismore 1965-1985Cannane, Mary, n/a January 1985 (has links)
The amalagamation of St. Mary's College and St. Joseph's High
School, Lismore was a process that began in 1965 when a decision was
made to combine Senior classes for the first Higher School Certificate
curriculum. There was no thought of amalgamation in 1965 but the
decision made then lead to the developments of 1977.
Increasing enrolments and the need for a building programme set
the scene for a merger of Junior classes and the introduction of
coeducation throughout the schools. This process extended from 1977
to 1981. It was a period of conflict and resistance to change but it
laid the foundation for the complete amalgamation of the schools to
form Trinity Catholic College in 1985.
The amalgamation process provides a study of decision-making in a
Catholic school context. Changes in the Church, Catholic schools and
Religious Orders are reflected in the changes in the way that
decisions were made at the three key-points in the story.
The study draws attention to the fact that in amalgamations of
schools much of the planning is done in terms of the present schools
rather than for the new school which is always twice as large and much
more complex. The non-educational aspects of amalgamation are also
considered because they are a time-consuming but important part of the
planning.
This study shows the importance of rituals in laying the old
schools to rest so that the new school may come into being. A visible
indication that things are different is essential when the students,
staff and buildings remain as they had been.
Since amalgamations are becoming more common as student numbers
decline some lessons learned over the past twenty years are recorded
so that others may benefit from them.

An Examination of Joseph's Enslavement of the Egyptians in Gen 47:13-26 in Light of Relevant Slavery Texts Across the TanakhFuller, David J. January 2013 (has links)
An examination of scholarly perspectives on the ethicality of Joseph's enslavement of the Egyptians in Gen 47:13-26 reveals a debate over whether Joseph's actions were benevolent or oppressive. The majority of scholars who evaluate Joseph negatively simply ignore the relevant historical data, and Brueggemann's case for its dismissal is unconvincing. However, one area of contention that has gone relatively unexamined is the relevance and implications of later canonical materials relating to slavery. Childs' Canonical Approach is employed in a modified form to honor the canon as the larger context in which a passage should be read. I argue that when examined in light of relevant slavery texts across the Tanakh, Joseph's actions in Gen 47:13-26 are not culpable on the basis of his employment of debt slaver, but can be read as being out of step with the ideal that emerges concerning resource distribution. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)

Utilization of postnatal services at St. Josephs clinic in Chishawaha (Zimbabwe)Makumbe, Sazilinah 01 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the utilization of Postnatal Services at St. Joseph's
Clinic. Sixty women of child- bearing age participated in the study. Convenience sampling was
utilised. An integration of Qualitative and Quantitative approaches were used for collection and
analysis of data.
The results of the study showed that women had high knowledge about the sixth week PNC.
Women's attitudes regarding attendance at the sixth week PNC were both positive and negative.
The relationship between knowledge and attitude was significant (r = .2999, p = .044)
The study concluded that, the attitudes of women towards attendance at the sixth week PNC were
mostly negative. Four themes emerged from the study.
Some of the recommendations of the study included a need for review of information given to
mothers regarding its relevance and appropriateness; a need to foster more positive attitudes in
women towards attendance at the sixth week PNC. / Health Studies / M.A. (Nursing Science)

Leadership as service of a parish in missionPrior, Laurence Paul 06 1900 (has links)
This study is concerned with the style of leadership needed to enable the church to fully express itself in mission. The renewed ecclesiology of the Second Vatican council, in which the church is said to be missionary by nature, is reviewed. The fundamental structure of the church is described theologically under the themes of the people of God, creation of the Holy Spirit and the body of Christ. A study of the Council's teaching on a pyramidal style ofleadership leads to the conclusion that it is inadequate for implementing the teaching on the missionary nature of the church. A review of post-Vatican II ecclesial movements worldwide points to a strong desire among many for a church of greater participation with a more personal leadership
style. A study of leadership in the corporate world shows how a servant-style is replacing the traditional pyramidal structure. It is shown how this servant-leadership style could also be used in the church. The results of a qualitative research study of St. Joseph's Parish in Metro Manila, Philippines, are presented. This shows how the pastor gathered around him a group of lay leaders who share and express his style of servant-leadership. This part of the study begins by setting the historical context within which this parish exists by giving an overview of the history of the church in the Philippines and then shows how the leaders of St. Joseph's Parish motivated a passive congregation to become a church-in-mission. This occurred over a number of years through the parishioners being invited to full participation in parish life and becoming involved in service of those in need. An intense formation programme by parish leaders, who used a servant-leadership style, helped lead this parish from its former passivity to a manifestation of the missionary nature of the church. The study concludes by identifying some themes for further research. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D.Th.(Missiology)

Throughout the ages, the Church has employed the arts. In the middle ages, in particular, the adornments of cathedrals (sculptures, frescoes, stained-glass) were prized not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their didactic potential—concrete techniques for catechizing and evangelizing. The nativity scenes mounted in the Museum of Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal can be viewed from this perspective.
Taking into consideration this mission of evangelization incumbent on the Church, along side the emphasis on the visual in present-day culture and society, we intend to take as a starting point the exhibit of creches during the Christmas season 2009 at the Oratory to see how they might contribute to the effort at evangelization and to the enrichment of Christianity and Christians.
In the final analysis, the nativity scene is essentially a work of faith, (not only as regards the faith of the artist but also the faith-experience of the person who looks at it) under the category of a devotion to the Holy Family. In world of change, where the visual arts are considered crucial, this method of evangelization is well-suited to the context of de-Christianization and may be considered as complementary to the traditional methods of evangelization based on speech. They are complementary not in the sense of “going from town to town, preaching and announcing the Good News of the Kingdom of God” (Luke 8, 1) to those who have never heard of Christ, but in the sense of stimulating the curiosity of non-Christian viewers, rekindling the interest of those who no longer practice, and supporting and deepening the faith of the devoted.
