Lexical Collocation Errors in English Produced by Czech Learners of English

ŽEMLIČKOVÁ, Radka January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on collocations, i.e. repeatedly occurring combinations of lexical items. Main emphasis is put on lexical collocations produced incorrectly by Czech learners of English. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with various definitions describing this lexical phenomenon and with classification of collocations. A brief mention of the attitude to teaching collocations at schools is made, too. In the practical part, 200 collocations gathered from essays written by L2 learners of Czech secondary grammar schools are analysed as for a type of a restriction, semantic transparency and a part of speech. With erroneously produced collocation, an attempt to explain the cause leading to error is made and the correct combination or its closest equivalent is adduced. The results are presented in tables.

Testování anglických kolokací u českých studentů angličtiny / Testing English collocations in Czech learners of English

Vaňková, Lenka January 2012 (has links)
The present study focuses on English collocations and their testing in Czech learners of English. Since the importance of collocations and phraseology as a linguistic discipline has not been recognised until recently, these concepts are introduced from the general point of view. First, the attention is given to the history of phraseology and its underlying principles as well as to the major approaches to it. Second, phraseological units are described from the point of view of their categorisation and of some influential typologies of these units. The main focus of interest is collocations, particularly major approaches to them as well as criteria commonly used to describe and delimit collocations from other types of prefabricated units and their definition and classification. Previous research on collocations in learner English is also outlined. The analytical part (based on Granger's (1998) study) analyzes the results of testing English collocations in Czech learners of English. The main focus is on whether these results confirm or deny the results of Granger's study, as well as on the learners' knowledge of and ability to use collocations, particularly on their (non)attaining the native "ideal."

Binomiály v češtině a ruštině / Binomials in Czech and Russian

Motornyuk, Alina January 2014 (has links)
The graduation thesis is dedicated to the binomials in the Czech and Russian languages. The author paid her attention to the substantive binomials, to the determination of their semantic categories and syntactic functions and to the comparison of the results of both languages. The source for the analysis is binomials, which were found in the Czech national corpus and the Russian national corpus.

Italské názvy barev a jejich syntagmatika - korpusová analýza / Italian noun denoting colors and their collocations - a corpus analysis

ŠTIKAROVÁ, Pavla January 2016 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is to investigate the Italian names of colours, placing them into context and issue of translation of the names of colours into Czech. The thesis has two parts. The first part theoretical deals in general with colours and colour terms, colour perception, symbologies, research and etymology. This thesis also analyse the process of colour perception throughout history and in the evolution of humans. In the practical part we will then get through five subdivisions to the terms from the area of biology (the names of plants and animals), in which there occurs any of Italian names of colours then we get to idiomatic expressions, uniting with the verb, comparison and collocation, in which there also occur terms indicating colours. In all of these five areas, we analyse similarity between the two languages by using analogous databases in Czech language and translation into Czech language. The aim of this thesis is delimitation of colour terms in the Italian language, their definition, putting into context, confrontation of loose and established closer links and also their comparison with Czech.

Kolokace a reprezentace genderu v cyklu Letopisy Narnie / Collocations and representation of gender in the Chronicles of Narnia series

Ocelík, Dana January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the representation of gender in children's literature, namely in the book series The Chronicles of Narnia. The theoretical part discusses gender linguistics, characterizes children's literature and discusses the issue of gender stereotypes in this type of literature. The analytical part of the paper focuses on the collocations of proper names of the four main characters (two female, two male) and the pronouns he/she/I referring to them. Attention will also be paid to common names related to gender: girl(s), boy(s). The material consists of 300 examples. The thesis examines both left-side and right-side collocates (mainly adjectives and verbs) of these nouns and pronouns and their semantics. The thesis determines the semantic types of collocates the words under study are associated with and examines the differences between the depiction of male and female characters, i.e. how the characters are described, what characteristics are typically attributed to them, what actions they perform and so on. The thesis provides an analysis of gender-related collocational patterns in children's literature and hopes to contribute to a greater understanding of gender-based language in general, as well as possible stereotyping effects on the child reader. keywords: gender, gender...

Jazykové klišé v současném televizním zpravodajství / Language cliché in contemporary TV news

Jeřichová, Tereza January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on language cliché in contemporary TV news. The aim of the theoretical part is to define the term cliché, specify its key features and describe language of the TV news. The analytical part focuses on finding and describing language clichés in the analysed material, which consists of TV news texts from three different Czech TV stations. The analysed material is restricted on preselected period of time. The chosen material is acquired from Newton Media archive, and the descriptions of particular clichés are accompanied by frequency and collocation data from language corpus SYN2015. The core of this diploma thesis is systematic definition of the term cliché and the linguistic analysis of particular clichés that can be found in contemporary TV news.

Monokolokabilní slova v němčině. Reflexe / Monocollocable Words in German. A reflection.

Veretelnyk, Iegor January 2017 (has links)
The work concerns the study of limited collocational paradigms in modern German. It is based on the corpus cooccurrence analysis and aims at the clearing up of the phenomenon of the so- called monocollocability. After the undertaken analyses and reflections there came a conclusion that corroborated the original point of view, namely, that the so-called monocollocability presents a multiplex phenomenon, where a metaphore of centre and periphery seems to be appropriate. In the analyses there occur semantically neutral word, inherently bound on certain collocated for formal reasons.

Fourierova-Galerkinova metoda pro řešení úloh stochastické homogenizace eliptických parciálních diferenciálních rovnic / Fourier-Galerkin Method for Stochastic Homogenization of Elliptic Partial Differential Equations

Vidličková, Eva January 2017 (has links)
This thesis covers the basics in the stochastic homogenization of elliptic partial differential equations, from underlying theory up to numerical ap- proaches. In particular, we introduce and analyze a combination of the Fourier-Galerkin method in the spatial domain with a collocation method in the stochastic domain. The material coefficients are assumed to depend on a finite number of random variables. We present a comparison of the Monte Carlo method with the full tensor grid and sparse grid collocation method for two applications. The first one is the checkerboard problem with continuous random variables, the other considers the material coefficients to be described in terms of an autocorrelation function.

Víceslovná pojmenování v italštině / Multiword expressions in Italian

Jungwirthová, Klára January 2015 (has links)
The main topic of this thesis are the multiword expressions in the italian language. The thesis is divided into two parts - the theorical and the empirical part. The theorical part deals with the multiword expressions, the syntagmas and the idiomatic expressions. In the empirical part the connections between the constituents of the multiword expressions will be researched. Than four criteria will be on the multiword expressions applied (head inflection, insertion of the head's modifiers, pronominalisation of the head and dislocation and topicalization of the head). These transformations will be verified with the aid of corpora and questionnaires. Depending on the results of this research will be decided if the multiword expressions resemble the syntagmas or the idiomatic expressions.
