Blindtræ og skuffers Konstruktioner : et studie i svenske og franske rokokokommoders blindtræs konstruktion og dens betydning for et møbels funktion og holdbarhed

Shimizu, Yuko January 2011 (has links)
The purpose is to learn and understand what it is in a rococo commodes carcass that separates a Swedish commode from a French, and whether cabinetmaker have used new techniques from another country or maintained their own. The purpose is also to realize how a commode’s construction affects its, function and durability. The task is to analyze three commodes practically, one French, one with French-inspired, but Swedish-made, and one Swedish. They are made in 1720s, 40s and 60s. Since rococo embossed earlier in France, it fits to compare them even though they are from different times. Moreover, the French-inspired commode have had great influence on Swedish rococo history and can therefore be compared with the Swedish commode that is produced after the French-inspired, using the commode to see how it affected the other Swedish commodes. I have analyzed two more Swedish commodes, but only in conservation report which I had access to.The result of the analysis shows that the cabinetmakers have not acquired the construction techniques directly from French. They have maintained their own technique in fabrication of furniture. This means that French and Swedish joinery technique can separate from each other when you look at the construction of carcass. The result also shows that carcass construction affects a commode’s function and durability expression because of its locked construction and poor material choose. But the analysis also shows that the climatic conditions are more important than the construction and material.
