1 Resumé Title of thesis: Political Trials in 1950s The purpose of my thesis is to describe the political trials in continuities. It means the evolution of political situation, evolution of legal order, political trials themselves, rehabilitation and the present view of the phenomenon of political trials. The thesis comprises of six chapters. Chapter One deals with comprehensive view of the political trials, but not only on the political trials themselves. It mainly focuses on legal order, evolution of the judiciary, the background of the political trials, methods used in creating political trials, types of political trials and influence on society. The chapter is subdivided into seven subchapters. These subchapters describe legal order, persecution, political trials (in general), types of political trials, activity of Soviet advisors, methods and the judiciary. Chapter Two deals with the concept of punishment, its application and execution. The chapter consists of three subchapters. Subchapter One focuses on criminal offenses and the types of punishments. Subchapter Two focuses on the capital punishment and Subchapter Three explains execution of punishment (capital punishment and custodial sentence). The victory of Christian democrats in the parliamentary election of 1948 in Italy was made possible by a cooperation between the Holy See and United States during the pre-election campaign. The thesis presents the outcome of research done on American, but especially on Vatican foreign policy. The foreign policy of Pius XII between 1945 and 1950 had three main features. They were support for European integration, relations with certain European states and fight against communism. A stand of the Holy See on these issues is compared to the American one. The outcome of the analysis is that their foreign policies had some aims in common but that it hardly ever led to cooperation. There were some minor examples of cooperation, but there was none as significant as the one in Italy in 1948. Key words: Holy See, Pius XII, foreign policy, USA, communism, integration

The main aim of this thesis is to prove that the style of news coverage of one topic in three different Czech newspapers differs significantly, based on ideology of authors and newspapers too. News reporting should be informative, unbiased, without assessments of its author. However the resulting article is always biased in some way. The author doesn't have to use evaluating words to evaluate; he or she can affect the result by choosing right speakers, placing them in favorable or disadvantageous position or even cut them out of the text. The author can choose which story to tell and which frame to use. This thesis focuses on crisis in the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes in April of 2013, when the director Daniel Herman was dismissed and new director Pavla Foglová was appointed. This event is suitable for the study of (hidden) evaluation and ideology, because it is closely connected with communist history of Czech nation - everyone has some opinion about it, journalists included. After the theoretical explanation of main terms and concepts like signification, discourse and ideology comes the analysis of three non-tabloid Czech newspapers: Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. Their story is the main subject of this thesis.

The thesis deals with the emergence of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and its development in the 1920s. The first part is devoted to the historical roots of the socialist movement in Austria-Hungary and the Czech lands and maps the birth of the Communist Party from the left wing of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Workers' Party. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on the policy and internal development of the Communist Party in the 1920s in connection with its relationship to the Communist International. It also describes the most important events that influenced the party, individual congresses of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, their conclusions and in the context there is explained the strategic-tactical direction of the party. The thesis also monitors the development of communist agitation before the parliamentary elections of 1925 and 1929 and the results of these elections. The work uses specialized literature, protocols of individual congresses of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and articles from the period press. The Diploma Work deals with the history and development of Milevsko pastoral region. The Work has two parts. The first part deals with the history of invidual parochial Communities. It covers the era from the Communities formation, paying slight attention to preformation time, up to the second world war. The second part covers the time period from the second world war up to the year 1989. It deals with Milevsko pastoral region as the whole, its development is put in time context and individual events are linked to individual localities of the region. There are following parishes in Milevsko pastoral region: Milevsko, Nadějkov, Sepekov, Hodušín, Opařany, Květov, Lašovice, Kostelec nad Vltavou, Bernartice, Veselíčko, Stádlec, Rataje, Kovářov, Předbořice, Chyšky, Jistebnice and Klučenice.

(in English): The topic of the present thesis is the image of Castro's Cuba in the work of dissident writers. The theoretical part is dedicated to the historical and political circumstances of Cuba in the second half of the 20th century, it briefly outlines the origins and evolution of the Cuban dissent and, most importantly, it pays attention to the literary dissent. The main part of the present thesis concentrates on to the dissident Generation Mariel and its main characterics, and especially on life and literary work of his most important member, Reinaldo Arenas. The theoretical background serves as the basis for the practical part of the thesis, in which the image of Castro's government in the work of Reinaldo Arenas, Before night falls and The color of summer: or The New Garden of Earthly Delights, is examined.

Political Trials of 1950s in Czechoslovakia - Babice Case The goal of this thesis is to describe political trials in wider context and discuss in detail about one of the greatest trials- Babice trial. In the present thesis is mapped political- history development in postwar Czechoslovakia until the revolution in 1948, analysis of key legal norms adopted after the February based on which was possible to hold political trials, classification of political trials and detailed analysis of Babice trial. The thesis is systematically divided into three chapters. The first chapter splits into two subheads. In the first subheads is discussed the political situation in postwar Czechoslovakia, formation of the first postwar government and gradual take-over by Communist Party which culminated into coup d'état in February 1948. The second subhead is dedicated to major changes in legal order and justice where was the most important that norms which was the basis for holding of political trials. The second chapter contains the characteristic of political trials, description of generation mechanism, incl. authority which has crucial impact on their actions, followed by the division of political trials according to involved groups of people. The diploma thesis titled "Political developments in Vietnam from 1954 to the present" focuses on the political development of Vietnam after the war in Indochina until present days. It describes what led Ho Chi Minh to adopt communism, after what and by whom he was inspired and why communism has nowadays still a strong position in Vietnam. The main attention is devoted to the reforms of Doi Moi, that have lifted the country's economy. It outlines the positive and negative aspects following the introduction of these reforms.

The diploma thesis entitled Prerequisites for the Restoration of the Greek Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia in the second half of the 20th century deals with the fate of this church in the period of communist regime. The main part of the work is devoted to the years 1950-1968, the stage from its abolition to its partial restoration. In this period, factors and key events that contributed to the restoration are sought. Important moments in the history of the Greek Catholic church are interpreted in the historical political-religious context. The conclusion outlined the life and activities of the restored, but limited, Greek Catholic Church in the period of normalization.
