Gustáv Husák v kauze slovenského buržoazního nacionalismu / Gustáv Husák in a Cause of the Slovak Bourgeois Nationalism

Macháček, Michal January 2011 (has links)
The thesis deals with the Czechoslovak communist politician Gustáv Husák in connection with the cause of the Slovak bourgeois nationalism. It is structured chronologically, sometimes interspersed with thematic areas. It draws from a wide variety of sources. The prevailing approach is positivistic and analytical. The aim is to explain the emergence of the cause of the Slovak bourgeois nationalism and the way in which Husák was incorporated into it. The work points to a pivotal link with the international context and reveals poor relations between leading Party officials. Furthermore, the thesis raises issues of Husák's political fall, fabricated charges, imprisonment and subsequently the complexity of the rehabilitation process, at the end of which Husák's Communist Party membership was restored and a further political career remained a possibility. Additionally, the text tries to consider to a large extent the social relations between different participants and understand their motives of behavior. All of this is also put into perspective with respect to Czech-Slovak relations, which were significantly influenced by the aforementioned cause. The intention of the work deliberately exceeds the biographical theme.

Dějiny ÚV KSČ v éře Antonína Novotného / The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the period of Antonín Novotný

Hemza, Tomáš January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of the presented dissertation is to analyse the functioning of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in Antonín Novotný's period (1953- 1967). The dissertation deals with three main themes: the organizational structure of the central apparatus, the staffing and personnel policy (the so-called nomenklatura). The main intention of the study concentrates on the Party elite's mobility and formation and considers patronage (clientelism) as an approach to understanding the political process. From the perspective of the political pluralism it examines coalition building at the central level through an analysis of aggregate biographical career data of over sixty Communist politicians. During the second half of the 1950s the Communist regime broke with the most brutal aspects of totalitarianism. The abandonment of massive and arbitrary repression was the key policy change from the Stalinist era. In many ways it prompted the transformation into a different type of dictatorship, becoming a modern police state rather than a despotic terror state. Instead of previous large-scale repression as a key means of social control, the Communist regime focused on a so-called cadre policy as the main power authority. As far as economic troubles were concerned, the Czechoslovak...

The African American Critique of Communism in the Novels of Richard Wright, Chester Himes and Ralph Ellison.

BÍCHOVÁ, Marie January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the criticism of communism in the novels of three African-American writers: Richard Wright Native Son and The Outsider, Chester Himes Lonely Crusade and Ralph Ellison Invisible Man. The main characters of their novels, mainly African-Americans, were directly confronted with racial prejudices, injustice during the Great Depression. These unfavorable living situations brought them to the Marxist Ideology. The Communist Party in USA was attractive for African-Americans because their program included the fight for racial equality. After the initial excitement of Marxist Ideology came indignation and disappointment.

Počátky konzumní společnosti v Československu 1945-1970. Obchod, spotřeba a reklama / The Origins of Consumer Society in Czechoslovakia 1945-1970 Trade, Consumption and Advertising

Táborský, Ondřej January 2016 (has links)
Dissertation "The Origins of the Mass Consumption Society in Czechoslovakia 1945-1970. Trade, Consumption and Advertising" deals with the process of establishing consumption as a new category of human life in the communist dictatorship in Czechoslovakia. Through the analysis of the discourse the author shows how a network of specialized institutions and professionals producing thinking about consumption emerged in the milieu of the Ministry of Internal Trade. This network manifested itself in the planning of the trade infrastructure and in the adoption of a more subtle approach to the problem of consumption in an effort to maintain the legitimacy of the communist rule. The commerce as a sphere of economy was in the communist discourse initially reduced to the transmission lever between production and the consumer. This perception was accompanied by the pursuit of the social justice through the transformation of the consumer's experience, underpinned by a strong moral appeal. The key tools used in this process were the democratization of the access to the goods, the attempts to adapt the services to broad sections of the society, the chance given to the consumers to raise their own demands and also the "new language" of the trade practices. Political thaw after Stalin's death led to the...

Ústava ČLR de iure a de facto / The Constitution of the People's Republic of China de iure and de facto

Hlavan, Tomáš January 2016 (has links)
Résumé - anglický jazyk Název diplomové práce v anglickém jazyce: The Constitution of the People's Republic of China de iure and de facto This thesis deals with the issue of the Constitution of the People's Republic of China de iure and de facto. As presumed, the Chinese Constitution de iure does not meet all the requirements for effective constitution of the modern state and that between the Constitution of the PRC de iure and de facto exists a discrepancy relationship, the thesis aims to individually identify and analyze common constitutional and political elements which collectively create a real form of the Chinese Constitution de facto ("living" Constitution), upon which constitutional mechanisms of Chinese political life are based on. The work consists of three chapters, whereupon the work can be divided into two parts. The first part is the theoretical part, where the first chapter deals with defining the term of Constitution itself, whether from a purely normative point of view, as well as from other approaches, especially those from sociological and political science, which are crucial to properly understand the content of the Constitution de facto. Afterwards there is the categorization of various concepts of the Constitution, followed by the classification of different types of the Constiution....

This change brought about issues such as political cleansing and trials and the development of opposition. The second chapter is devoted to the phenomenon of Charter 77, its origins, the response to it by the party and state apparatus and what it meant to be a Charter 77 member in everyday life. The concept of samizdat is briefly defined in chapter three. The fourth and fifth chapters deal with the magazines themselves. Rudé hrady v meziválečném Československu / Czechoslovak Red Citadels between Two Wars

Vrba, Jakub January 2017 (has links)
(in English): The thesis focuses on the regional organisation of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) in the Liberec region. In the political system of interwar Czechoslovakia, KSČ was specific in that its members hailed from all local ethnic groups. It was therefore, above all, the local Germans who formed the major part of the Liberec organisation. In the 1920s in some districts within the region, KSČ received up to one third of all votes cast, while throughout the 1930s, its support diminished rapidly in favour of the Sudetendeutsche Partei (SdP). The thesis seeks to clarify the causes of this sudden drop. It identifies as one of the major factors the mutually contradictory identities which were being formed within the local branch of the movement, i.e. the communist, the German and the Czechoslovak identity. These three came into alignment, to a certain degree, only shortly before the Munich Agreement with the emergence of a communist Czechoslovak narrative established on a supraethnic basis. The study also takes note of the developments in the KSČ headquarters in Prague as these had significant impact on the peripheral Liberec organization and further places the problem within the context of the First Czechoslovak Republic and its society. The policies and politics of the central...
