The Role of Executive and Motivational Laboratory Tasks in the Assessment of Externalizing and Internalizing Problems in ADHD-C and Non-ADHD-C YouthJarrett, Matthew A. 24 May 2006 (has links)
The current study utilized laboratory tasks (Conners' Continuous Performance Test, CPT; Behavioral Inhibition Task, BIT) to examine the relationships among motivation, executive functioning, and parent and teacher-reported attention, internalizing, and externalizing problems in a clinical sample of 132 children with or without Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Combined Type (ADHD-C; 69% male, mean age = 9.88). Specificity was examined through total, unique, and interactive effects via hierarchical regression. Higher CPT scores (i.e., executive disinhibition) were related to greater externalizing problems in total and unique effect analyses, while a relationship between lower CPT scores (i.e., executive inhibition) and greater internalizing problems was found only in unique effect analyses. No significant effects were found for motivational inhibition (i.e., low BIT) or disinhibition (i.e., high BIT). ADHD-C was associated with greater attention and externalizing problems in total effect analyses, but only externalizing problems showed a significant relationship in unique effect analyses. Interactive effects were found for ADHD-C and executive functioning, as lower levels of CPT (i.e., executive inhibition) coupled with ADHD-C resulted in greater parent-reported attention problems. In addition, higher CPT scores (i.e., executive disinhibition) were associated with greater parent-reported externalizing problems in Non-ADHD-C children. Although some main effects were predicted, the interactive effects were somewhat surprising, particularly in relation to ADHD-C, executive inhibition, and parent-reported attention problems. Exploratory analyses revealed that this effect may have been due to greater internalizing problems in ADHD-C children at lower levels of CPT (i.e., executive inhibition). Psychopathy is associated with several behavioral and psychophysiological deficits. Lynam (2002) has argued that the use of an overarching conceptualization of psychopathy can provide a parsimonious explanation of psychopathic pathology. The current study examined relations between tasks used to explore psychopathic pathology and dimensions from the Five Factor Model of personality. Undergraduate participants completed the NEO PI-R, the BART, a go/no-go task, an emotional morph task, and provided physiological responses to stimuli. While hypothesized relations to FFM psychopathy composites were generally unsupported, other interesting relations to traits were identified. Results indicated that hypoarousal to negative stimuli was negatively related to pan-impulsivity. Maladaptive risk taking was positively related to panimpulsivity and high self-directed negative affect. Response modulation deficits were negatively related to pan-impulsivity, low self-directed negative affect, and facets of openness. Deficits in empathic responding were positively related to other-directed negative affect and self-directed negative affect, and negatively related to pan-impulsivity and interpersonal assertiveness. Although it remains unclear whether the failure to support hypotheses was related to the study variables or population, results indicate that the FFM can provide additional information with regard to what deficit tasks assess.

Bridging the divide: Revisiting the conceptualization of impulsivity and its relation to alcohol use and alcohol problems.Kelley, Karen 06 August 2021 (has links) (PDF)
The development of multiple theoretical models and measures of impulsivity has led to inconsistent use of this term and disagreement regarding the most salient predictors of alcohol-related outcomes. The present study examined whether self-report and behavioral measures of impulsivity measure the same construct and how eight conceptually distinct facets of impulsivity relate to alcohol-related outcomes. Participants completed measures and tasks to assess alcohol use, alcohol problems, trait impulsivity, and behavioral impulsivity. The UPPS-P and behavioral measures of impulsivity were largely uncorrelated with each other. Negative urgency and alcohol use emerged as direct predictors of alcohol-related problems. Lack of premeditation demonstrated an indirect effect on alcohol-related problems. Results support previous research suggesting behavioral and self-report measures of impulsivity do not assess the same construct. Further, results suggest that negative urgency may be the most predictive of alcohol-related problems when accounting for self-report and behavioral components of impulsivity.

Laboratory-based tasks in the diagnosis of ADHD in adults: a theoretical and empirical analysisButcher, Andrew Timothy 18 November 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to empirically evaluate the diagnostic utility of the Conners CPT and the P ASAT as a laboratory-based measures of attention, vigilance, working memory, and sustained mental effort in clinic-referred adults with and without ADHD. Moreover, the study was conducted in order to obtain additional evidence in ongoing efforts to clarify the classification and phenomenological status of ADHD in adults. Subjects were adults seeking psychological evaluation for a variety of presenting problems including, emotional, occupational, relational, and/or adjustment, difficulties. Standardized clinical evaluations were conducted and structured clinical interviews were used to determine clinical diagnosis and group membership (ADHD vs. Non-ADHD). It was hypothesized that ADHD adults would exhibit significantly more comorbid psychopathology, learning problems, and verbal memory deficits than non-ADHD adults. It was also hypothesized that the findings from the CPT (Conners, 1992) and P ASAT (Gronwall, 1977) would reliably discriminate these groups (ADHD and non-ADHD) of clinic-referred adults. While ADHD adults did not exhibit a higher frequency of learning disabilities, they did have significantly more comorbid psychopathology and were much more likely to experience clinically impairing deficits in verbal memory functioning. The combined results of the laboratory tasks accurately identified diagnostic group status in over 9 of 10 cases for ADHD adults and in approximately 8 of 10 cases for non-ADHD adults. The relevance of these findings for the psychiatric classification and experiential nature of ADHD in adults, as well as the clinical diagnostic utility of these laboratory measures for adult ADHD is discussed. / Master of Science

The practical part of diploma thesis describes a few available network simulators suitable for creating two laboratory tasks. Finally, the NS-3 simulator was chosen. Both laboratory tasks include theoretical introduction, detailed description of source code, individual tasks, expected outputs and control questions which senses understanding of discussed technologies.

7 SUMMARY This thesis is divided into two separate portions. The first part covers my own lichen floristic exploration of the Károvské údolí locality stretching out along the southern limits of Prague near Zbraslav. The location is formed by relatively steep slopes with orientation to North and South. Natural conditions are characterised by communities of xerothermic steppes and oak groves with alder clumps and hornbeams prevailing in lower parts along the Károvský potok stream. Geologically, the parent rock consists of shale rocks of acid chemical composition. Duting my search, I recorded 116 lichen species. Among them, saxicolous and terricolous lichens characteristic of acid rock outcrops and xerotherm steppes prevail. During exploration, I found also the critically endangered (CR) species Peltigera elisabethae, endangered species (EN) Flavoparmelia caperata and representatives of the genus Verrucaria, tolerant of long-term freshwater flooding - V. cf. andesiatica, V. aquatilis and V. funckii. One of species discovered, Pertusaria flavicans, has not been recorded in the Czech Republic todate. This locality is home to a summer house resort which has expanded the list of lichens by basophilic species which inhabit anthropogenic substrata. Diploma thesis deals with creating four laboratory tasks using simulation tool OMNeT++ and Inet Framework extension. Subject matter of these designed tasks is focused on routing protocols, providing quality of service, computer networking technologies used in local area networks and comparison of active networking devices. First task contains the comparison of behaviour and routing techniques between protocols RIPv2 and OSPFv2, including the effect of dividing OSPF network into smaller areas. Second task is focused on various techniques for controlling quality of service, namely FIFO queue, PQ and WFQ. Main goal is the comparison of results, that define quality of network services. Third task compares networking technologies, Ethernet and WLAN, parameters of transmission. Fourth task offers comparison of networking devices, hub, switch and router. This paper also contains required theory of network technologies and software tools used for executing simulations.
