The Research on Children from Third to Sixth-grade about Parent-Child Relationship and Learning Adaptation.

Abstract This research is to probe into the parent-child relationship and the learning adaptation of the foreign spouses¡¦ children. This study used a questionnaire that was designed using the ¡§Demographic Survey¡¨, the ¡§Father-Child Relationship Scale¡¨, the ¡§Mother-Child Relationship Scale¡¨, and the ¡§Learning Adaptation Scale¡¨. We received 161 usable samples from third to sixth-grade. The data was analyzed using statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA , Pearson¡¦s correlation , and multiple regression. The major results are as follows: 1.The some demographic variables including birth order , grade level of elementary school and the contact windows with the teacher in a family of the foreign spouses¡¦ children had no significant influence on their learning adaptation. 2.The girls are significant superior to the boys in learning adaptation. 3.The foreign spouses¡¦ children from small families are significant superior to the foreign spouses¡¦ children from the extended families and the kinship families. 4.The foreign spouses¡¦ children whose mothers¡¦ nationality had significant influence on their learning adaptation. 5.The foreign spouses¡¦ children whose mothers can write Chinese are significant superior to the foreign spouses¡¦ children whose mothers can¡¦t write Chinese. 6.All aspects of the father-child relationships had significant influence on the learning adaptation of the foreign spouse ¡¦ children , the foreign spouses¡¦ children had the better father-child relationship , they had better learning adaptation. 7.All aspects of the mother-child relationships had significant influence on the learning adaptation of the foreign spouse ¡¦ children , the foreign spouses¡¦ children had the better mother-child relationship , they had better learning adaptation. 8.This study compared with the study with no foreign spouses prove that parent-child relationship is the chief reason in learning adaptation. According to the findings , suggestions were provided for the parents , educational authorities and the future researches.

Impact of Attention on Perception in Cognitive Dynamic Systems

The proposed aim of this thesis, inspired by the human brain, is to improve on the performance of a perceptual processing algorithm, referred to as a “perceptor”. This is done by trying to bridge the gap between neuroscience and engineering. To this end, we build on localized perception-action cycle in cognitive neuroscience by categorizing it under the umbrella of perceptual attention, which lends itself to increase gradually the contrast between relevant information and irrelevant information. Stated in another way, irrelevant information is filtered away while relevant information about the environment is enhanced from one cycle to the next. Accordingly, we propose to improve on the performance of a perceptor by modifying it to operate under the influence of perceptual attention. For this purpose, we first start with a single-layered perceptor and investigate the impact of perceptual attention on its performance through two computer experiments: The first experiment uses simulated (real-valued) data that are generated to purposely make the problem challenging. The second experiment uses real-life radar data that are complex-valued, hence the proposal to introduce Wirtinger calculus into derivation of our proposed method. We then take one step further and extend our proposed method to the case where a perceptor is hierarchical. In this context, every constitutive component of a hierarchical perceptor is modified to operate under the influence of perceptual attention. Then, another experiment is carried out to demonstrate the positive impact of perceptual attention on the performance of that hierarchical perceptor, just described. / Dissertation / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Tuning evolutionary search for closed-loop optimization

Closed-loop optimization deals with problems in which candidate solutions are evaluated by conducting experiments, e.g. physical or biochemical experiments. Although this form of optimization is becoming more popular across the sciences, it may be subject to rather unexplored resourcing issues, as any experiment may require resources in order to be conducted. In this thesis we are concerned with understanding how evolutionary search is affected by three particular resourcing issues -- ephemeral resource constraints (ERCs), changes of variables, and lethal environments -- and the development of search strategies to combat these issues. The thesis makes three broad contributions. First, we motivate and formally define the resourcing issues considered. Here, concrete examples in a range of applications are given. Secondly, we theoretically and empirically investigate the effect of the resourcing issues considered on evolutionary search. This investigation reveals that resourcing issues affect optimization in general, and that clear patterns emerge relating specific properties of the different resourcing issues to performance effects. Thirdly, we develop and analyze various search strategies augmented on an evolutionary algorithm (EA) for coping with resourcing issues. To cope specifically with ERCs, we develop several static constraint-handling strategies, and investigate the application of reinforcement learning techniques to learn when to switch between these static strategies during an optimization process. We also develop several online resource-purchasing strategies to cope with ERCs that leave the arrangement of resources to the hands of the optimizer. For problems subject to changes of variables relating to the resources, we find that knowing which variables are changed provides an optimizer with valuable information, which we exploit using a novel dynamic strategy. Finally, for lethal environments, where visiting parts of the search space can cause the permanent loss of resources, we observe that a standard EA's population may be reduced in size rapidly, complicating the search for innovative solutions. To cope with such scenarios, we consider some non-standard EA setups that are able to innovate genetically whilst simultaneously mitigating risks to the evolving population.

Socializační procesy v průběhu adaptace dítěte v mateřské škole / Socializing processes during the child's adaptation in the kindergarten

The dissertation is concerned with socializing processes of pre-school children around three years of age. The first theoretical part is globally concerned with personality socialization and highlights the significance of socialization in the healthy psychical progression of human beings, as well as the importance of understanding the problems of socialization for the pedagogical profession. This knowledge is specific and generalized in a situational context when the child comes to the kindergarten for the first time and gets slowly untied from the family, developing new relationships outside the family sphere. Socialization in the kindergarten is influenced by many internal and external factors. These factors matter if the child coming to the new kindergarten environment will incorporate to this society without any complications. If any complications appear during the incorporation, internal and external factors also influence the period how long they will last and also they influence the manner how the child will manage them as well. Adaptation programm can facilitate the entrance to the kindergarten for parents and their children.
