<p>Teza se bavi povećanjem ukupne oslonljivosti modularnog mikrokernel<br />operativnog sistem MINIX 3 kroz povećanje pouzdanosti njegovog<br />mrežnog podsistema. To je postignuto tako što je ovom operativnom<br />sistemu dodata agregacija mrežnih veza, čime je podražana<br />tolerancija na poremećaj komunikacionih linija. Na kraju je data<br />analiza kako dodati deo utiče na ukupne mrežne performanse.</p> / <p>The thesis deals with the way to increase the dependability of the modular<br />microkernel operating system MINIX 3 through the increase of the reliability<br />of its network subsystem. This is achieved by adding link aggregation to this<br />operating system, which added fault tolerance for the communication lines. At<br />the end, the analysis is given of how new module affects the overall network<br />performance.</p>

When designing networks intended to carry real-time media that is critical to arrive several aspects must be considered. For instance, the network must have redundant connectivity, should this traffic (and if so, how) be prioritized in networks where other traffic also travel, which technology is best in the given situation etc. This report will describe technologies that can solve these problems after which some of some of them will be tested in laborations to see how well they measure up in a given problem. The report establishes that in a self-governed LAN link aggregation in collaboration with Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol is a solid solution for providing redundancy with fast reconvergence. On WAN-connections and other shared networks Quality of Service rules should be implemented and in the case of Internet Service Providers a Service Level Agreement should be established.

This thesis focuses on redundancy in data networks and on technologies which are used to achieve high availability in network infrastructure. This thesis is based on industry standards published by well-known standardization authorities. One proprietary technology which can effectively replace these standards and simplify the whole network is also presented in more detail. The theoretical part individually describes all such technologies and standards. The practical part deals with an appropriate combination of these technologies and their application in a specific product environment. This work is meant to describe the whole concept of high availability in network infrastructure and should be instrumental in understanding how these technologies are deployed in practice.
