Development of biscuits with reduced levels of sugar and fat

Ross, Dianne S, University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury, Faculty of Science and Technology January 1996 (has links)
The market drive to develop lite foods in Australia. Extensive research has been conducted in the area of dairy products and processed meats. Some research has been carried out on cookies, crackers and cakes, whilst little has been done on plain sweet biscuits. As plain sweet biscuits have a considerable share of the Australian biscuit market, the potential for reducing sugar and fat in this variety was investigated. The functional properties of polydextrose as a sugar and a fat replacer were also determined. Replacements of up to 100% sugar and 50% fat were separately achieved using polydextrose without significantly affecting sensory acceptability. Up to 20% fat was successfully removed from the formulation containing 100% polydextrose in replacement for sugar. The total energy was reduced, with the energy contribution from fat being below, whilst sugar was slightly above the NH and MRC dietary targets / Master of Science (Hons)

Analysis of Methanol Based Chlorine Dioxide Production : An analysis of sodium chlorate reduction efficiency and investigation of salt cake filter wash on an SVP-LITE® system / Analys av metanolbaserad klordioxidberedning : En analys av natriumklorat reduktionseffektivitet och undersökning av saltkakefiltertvätt på ett SVP-LITE® system

Lundh, Emil January 2023 (has links)
This work aimed to determine how effective an SVP-LITE® chlorine dioxide plant at Vallviks Bruk was running. This was done by determining the chemical consumption per unit of chlorine dioxide produced. The calculations relied upon online instrumentation that was manually validated. The most important parameters were the conversion ratio of sodium chlorate into chlorine dioxide and the specific consumption of sodium chlorate, methanol, and sulphuric acid. The salt cake filter and dissolver were also examined to determine their impact. The total conversion ratio of sodium chlorate during a whole ECF (Elementally Chlorine Free) campaign were 93.12 %, somewhat lower than the target efficiency of 95.64 %. The specific chemical consumption was 1.695 kg sodium chlorate, 0.183 kg methanol, and 1.007 kg sulphuric acid per kg produced chlorine dioxide. The salt cake filter worked as intended to remove excess sulphuric acid, with the precipitate having the same sulphate and acidic content as the wanted form of sodium sesquisulphate Na3H(SO4)2. However, some sodium chlorate can get through, and the mean concentration in the dissolver was 1.3 g/dm3, equal to approximately 4 tons lost during a campaign. The filter may be more efficient in redissolving acidic species than chlorate salts. The reactor could theoretically be run more efficiently, but its production parameters is close to what is expected of such a plant.

Rashidi, Mitra January 2022 (has links)
The thesis describes development of Machine learning (ML) integration procedure in smartphone and provides a comparison with the traditional computer models like TensorFlow. Machine learning is a field that promotes a lot of observation in the current era due to its notable desire in various Intelligent applications such as computer vision, natural language processing, recommendation systems, and time series problems. The limitation of resources on a smartphone makes it challenging to apprehend varied completely different activities with high precision. A user-friendly procedure is proposed to perform the designing, development, evaluation and deployment of Machine learning models for embedded devices with limited resources. TensorFlow (TF) and TensorFlow lite (TF Lite) were selected to perform the task. The thesis provides the procedure of a base Machine learning model designed for a computer, laptop or a machine to a compressed and optimized version of the same model for integration on a device with limited resources. A Study of Integrated Devices Manufacturer Assembly and Testing Outsourcing Strategy

Tu, Szu-Hsiao 11 February 2008 (has links)
The unpredictability of Semiconductor Industry Cycle and high business risk from high Capital Expenditure (in short Capex) result in IDM¡¦s (Integrated Devices Manufacturer) preference in ¡§Asset Lite¡¨ strategy. The key approaches are reducing Capex in in-house facilities, joint-venture Fab with other semiconductor companies, sell production facilities to foundry or SATS (Semiconductor Assembly and Test Service), spin-off part of semiconductor division to have better differentiation and even joint-venture with SATS, in one word, the structure of semiconductor industry is in transition stage. This study is to review the evolution process of semiconductor industry from only IDM in 60 year ago to the rise of Fabless company who is playing a very key role in some semiconductor devices. IDM had started to do outsource business and decided to increase the business volume. We are going to understand what influence Fabless had caused in the industry and how IDM could adjust itself toward outsourcing strategy.

Taiwan's Path to Sustainability? Discussion of CSR in the Case of Lite-On / Taiwan's Path to Sustainability? Discussion of CSR in the Case of Lite-On

Magdalena Kuksova Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis is focused on case study research of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Taiwanese OEM/ODM corporation Lite-On. Lite-On provides a representative sample of Taiwan’s key industry - the high-tech industry with OEM/ODM manufacturers supplying to global brands. The study has two objectives. The first objective is to introduce the CSR instruments currently used in electronics industry, with a special attention paid to their usage among Taiwanese companies. How successful is the implementation of CSR in the electronics supply chain? The second objective is to study the current status of CSR in Taiwan, while considering a wider context of business ethics and management practice in the Chinese communities. What factors shape the CSR in Taiwanese-invested corporations? After examining these objectives, the key research question of this study is to find out why Taiwanese companies facing harsh competition in the supply chain engage in implementation of corporate social responsibility programs. The thesis is divided into five chapters. First, theoretical concept of CSR and new role of multinational corporations in the global supply chain are introduced. The next chapter recounts the story of Lite-On corporation and its CSR practices, thereby offering a valuable micro-perspective on CSR in Taiwan. The study continues with analysis of legal and voluntary instruments that attempt to address the CSR issues. The final section portrays current status and understanding of CSR in Taiwan’s business community and draws on CSR challenges.

Development of Open source Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) For Human Biobanking

Ademuyiwa, Toluwaleke January 2018 (has links)
Magister Scientiae - MSc (Bioinformatics) / Biobanks are collections of biological samples and associated data for future use. The day to day activities in a biobank laboratory is underpinned by a laboratory information management system (LIMS). For example, the LIMS manages the execution of tests on biospecimens and track their movement and processing through the laboratory. There are a range of commercially available Biobank LIMS systems on the market but their costs are prohibitive in a resource limited setting. The cost of Commercial off-the-shelf software includes the initial cost of acquiring the system, as well as the cost of maintenance and support throughout the software's life cycle. The Bika LIMS system on the other hand is Free and open source software (FOSS) with decreased license cost, used routinely in non-medical laboratories. Ideally, if Bika LIMS could be customised to handle human biospecimens, then both biobanks and genetics laboratories could benefit. Central to any biobank functionality in Bika LIMS is the ability to import information from routine biomedical equipment. We identified two instruments that are key to human biobanking and are lacking in Bika LIMS namely BioDrop ?LITE and the Qubit Fluorometric instrument. Import interfaces for importing DNA/RNA concentration analyses from these instruments and management of the results with associated sample information would add value to the LIMS. The aim of the thesis was to customise Bika LIMS for utility in a biomedical laboratory. In collaboration with colleagues at Tygerberg medical school, the Bika LIMS software was customised to accommodate the DNA and RNA concentration analyses results for a pathology laboratory and the LIMS workflows customised for use at Tygerberg medical school. In this process the manual operations of Tygerberg medical school laboratory would migrate to the use of Bika LIMS. The analytical module in Bika LIMS was implemented using PYTHON, by using logic that allows importing of specific analyses. A template was created for the BioDrop ?LITE and Qubit Fluorometric instruments used for developing the interface for an analysis import form. The instruments generate results in CSV file format. A parser was created to read and parse the files uploaded from the import form, by splitting them into parts, extracting the data, and populating key-value pairs. The controller manages the submission of the form by initialising the parser that imports the specific file into the LIMS where it is managed by the configured Bika LIMS workflow.
