The purpose of this study is to explore a possible method of diagnosing marital difficulties. This is an exploratory investigation into the possibility of developing a particular method for marital diagnosis rather than a specific test for such a diagnosis. This method consists of a series of related sentence stems which the subject completes and then rates as to their degree of difficulty.

An attempt was made to further establish the validity of the Polyfactor Test of Marital Difficulties, a relatively new, yet potentially valuable sentence completion, self-rating marital difficulties test. . Another test, the Marital Adjustment Inventory was also used for comparison purposes.

This study is a comparison of the verification sales of a self-rating sentence completion method for evaluating marital difficulties and the MMPI validity scales.
