Stances on NATO Membership in Three Swedish Newspapers in 2014 and 2022 : A Study on Political ParallelismEl Kaouay, Nabil January 2023 (has links)
This master thesis explores the coverage of Swedish NATO membership by three newspapers: Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, and Svenska Dagbladet. The goal is to understand if the Swedish press shifted their reporting following the Social Democrats’ internal shift on NATO membership in April 2022. Through a quantitative content analysis of over 200 articles in 2014 and 2022, this study found that they mostly maintained a neutral stance. By looking through the lenses of political parallelism and testing its indicators, the findings show that the newspapers did not consistently align with their respective political affiliations. Only Svenska Dagbladet seemed to follow its political affiliation, while Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter had numerous neutral articles. The newspapers also provided a neutral space for debate with a diverse panel of authors who were not only journalists and occasionally allowed conflicting stances opposed to their respective political affiliations.

The legacy of colonial representational logics and the increasing role of visual media cemented,on a wide scale, the image of Afro people in the visual now the discourse and underlyingassumptions of poverty, lack, need and helplessness. The thesis investigates the modes of visualcounter-narratives outside of International Development institutional practices. It is expressed as avisual re-writing effort where the photographers, together with the people in the picture, collaborate to renegotiate the visual space and grammar of happiness, drive, passion, creativity, heritage, and community as attributed to Afro people and bodies.

Minoritetsfällan –Identitetsskapande journalistikmed bristfälliga resurser : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om hur processerna i SverigesRadio Finskas redaktion påverkade rapporteringen av Riksdagsvalet 2022 / The Minority Trap – When Identity Forming Journalism Is Producedwith Inadequate Resources : A qualitative interview study of how the reporting of the Swedishparliamentary elections in 2022 where affected by the journalistic processesthat took place inside the minority editorial office “Sveriges Radio Finska”Riitaho, Anni January 2023 (has links)
Previous research shows that, despite the strengthening impact that minority journalism hason the identity and language of minorities, the resources to produce such journalism aresmall in comparison to mainstream offices. This lack of resources has proven to have aneffect on journalism (Moring 2007; Moring & Godenhjelm 2010).Drawing upon the model of "Hierarchy of Influences" (Shoemaker & Reese 2014), thisthesis is an attempt to expand the understanding of the editorial processes that form thenews selection of a minority editorial office, thus adding new insights to the limitedunderstanding of minority journalism.Based on data generated from 11 interviews and a quantitative content analysis of 46 onlinearticles this research aims to conceptualise, how the reporting of the Swedish parliamentaryelections in 2022 produced by the Finnish speaking Public Service minority editorial office,Sveriges Radio Finska, was affected by the journalistic processes that took place inside theoffice. The findings based on the empirical data that was collected for this study show, that theminority journalists fall into a trap, where a journalistic product that has identity andlanguage strengthening qualities, is expected of them, but the resources to do so arelacking. This results in a working environment that can be experienced as stressful.

THE COMMONS : Exploring power relations in climate fiction TV series from an Ecofeminist perspectiveNowak, Jannika Katharina January 2022 (has links)
Patriarchal and masculinist ideologies have facilitated the global climate crisis and need to be transformed to address climate change successfully and achieve climate justice (Gaard, 2015). Climate fiction stories can envision future states of society (Robinson, 2016) and can thus challenge these ideologies and disrupt binary concepts of domination (Anglin, 2015). This research uses the theoretical framework of critical ecofeminism and its understanding of the dualistic construction of relations between humans and nature or men and women. In combination with relevant multimodal critical discourse analysis tools an analytical toolkit is created. This is used to analyse the climate fiction TV series THE COMMONS (Birse, 2019) with regard to present structures of domination between men, women and nature. The research findings determine that key dualisms are strongly present and accompanying power relations are reproduced, but also critically questioned to an extent. Especially class domination and the concept of men as the dominant gender is challenged.

Hips tik tok when I dance, on that demon time, she might start an Onlyfans : EN KRITISK DISKURSANALYTISK STUDIE OM DOKUMENTÄRFILMEN PORNFLUENCERS AV SVTMuhrén Sjölander, Olivia, Robertsson, Beda January 2022 (has links)
This thesis examines SVTs portrayal of the platform Onlyfans and its creators in relation to its guidelines on pornographic material and gender equality, in order to uncover a possible normalization of pornography for a male audience. By doing so the article uses the method of a multimodal critical discourse analysis combined with Laura Mulvey’s theory of the male gaze and Stuart Hall’s representation to analyze the documentary film Pornfluencers. Previous research has shown how pornography and female sexuality is portratted in different media forms and how the depiction often contributes to the normalization of the commodification of female sexuality. No previous research has been made on how public service guidelines are put into practice. Considering the responsibility SVT has against the public it is necessary to examine how they choose to represent the polarized and debated phenomena of Onlyfans that is a part of bigger discourses of normalization of pornography in society. Through the use of the analysis model and theoretical framework focusing on representation and the reproduction of patriarchal structures in visual material, the result shows that the phenomena of Onlyfans is presented in a factual and versatile way. However the representation between male and female creators differ and the platform is normalized through the framing of an empowerment-discourse and the sexualisation of the female creators which reproduces patriarchal structures. By this result the study further points out the importance of a suitable and coherent application of SVTs guidelines when presenting delicate subjects.

Manipulativ, ångerfull, glad eller trevlig? : En kritisk diskursanalys av hur kvinnliga och manliga mördare porträtteras i Aftonbladet och Expressen / Manipulative, remorseful, happy or pleasant? : A critical discourse analysis of how female and male murderers are portrayed in Aftonbladet and Expressen.Ohlson, Ebba, Gidlund, Matilda January 2023 (has links)
This study aims to investigate how the evening press, Aftonbladet and Expressen, portray female and male murderers. To answer the study’s purpose, the following research questions were formed: - What are the similarities and differences in the portrayal of male and female killers? - In what ways are traditional stereotypes reproduced or challenged in the reporting of male and female killers? The method applied in the study is a critical discourse analysis that enables an in-depth analysis of the empirical material, which consisted of 30 news articles from Aftonbladet and Expressen. The selection was limited to six murder cases within three categories. All murders occurred in close relationships, three cases involved a male perpetrator and three a female perpetrator. This study applied a social constructivist perspective, which means that reality shapes and is shaped by language. The theory section consists of gender studies, news journalism and how the news media affects the perception of gender. The previous research has examined how the news media portrays female and male murderers and whether murderers fall within the ideal of chivalry. With support from previous research and media theories, we have examined how male and female murderers are portrayed in the evening press from a gender perspective. The analysis studied the portrayal of murderers based on the themes “personality” and “the convicted person's background”. The results showed that the portrayal differed between male and female murderers, with all articles stemming from the ways of traditional gender stereotypes. The overall pattern we found was that the women are portrayed in a milder and more neutral way as opposed to the men who are portrayed in a harsher way, however, there were exceptions. The final discussion further argues how the evening press's way of maintaining traditional stereotypes may affect the public's perception of what is considered male and female.
