SIROVÁ, Barbora January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis will focus on music, film, literature and visual arts of Islamic coun-tries, as a material that leaves the original cultural and religious context and is being "sent" to be received in the context of the stabilised Western culture. Guided by her own judgment, the author of this diploma thesis shall select the most important and inte-resting artists who were born or are still living in one of the Islamic countries. And she will further interpret their work in terms of their influence and impact on the Western culture. As to the methodological approach, this diploma thesis is based on the concept of the cultural transfer, as it has been examined and defined in cultural studies in recent decades.

The Migrant Crisis and its Representation in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Lidové noviny / The Migrant Crisis and its Representation in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Lidové noviny

Müllerová, Alexandra January 2017 (has links)
Over the last two years the number of refugees and asylum seekers in European countries dramatically increased, with asylum claims mostly originating from countries affected by war and poverty, especially in the Middle East, Africa, and the Balkans. The rapid increase of the mobility of migrants raises contradictory reactions in society and individual countries can not agree on an acceptable solution. Against the background, Western European countries usually approach the immigrants more openly than Eastern European countries. A big role in the question of acceptance of migrants in different countries is played by the media. In contemporary society, the media constitute the main source of information about what is happening in the world and intermediate events in which the public cannot participate directly. Therefore it is important to examine how mass media in Eastern and Western European countries present the issues of solidarity, human rights, and the right to asylum. The aim of this master thesis is to find out what the main differences are in the case of printed mass media and whether the western newspapers create a better image of refugees than eastern media. As a representation of an Eastern European medium one Czech daily newspaper was chosen and from Western newspapers one German medium...

Imigrační krise v projevech euroskeptických stran - obsahová analýza / Migration crisis in the rhetorics of eurosceptical parties - content analysis

Chlumský, David January 2017 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with a depiction of a European migrant crisis in an agenda of Eurosceptic parties. The main goal of this thesis is to analyse the content of press releases and political programmes of selected Eurosceptic parties and, based on this, to examine their attitudes to the migrant crisis and possible connections with a degree of their Euroscepticism. There are four parties in this research selected according to the degree of Euroscepticism and the net immigration rate of their countries resulting in a research sample of two soft and two hard Eurosceptic parties from four different countries - two with high and two with low net immigration rate. A time frame of research is set from January 2015 to September 2016, which covers a main period of immigration waves. The research proved that there are some common characteristics among Eurosceptic parties and their attitudes to the migration, but more important factor is a main ideology of given party beyond its Euroscepticism. We could observe a wide spectrum of opinions from manifestations of solidarity and efforts to constructively resolve the crisis, through simple criticism towards the European union up to anti-migration rhetoric with elements of a xenophobia. After an evaluation of all factors we could say that hard Eurosceptic...

Analýza prezentace motivu slumu a života v něm v českých médiích v letech 2010-2017 / Analysis of Presentation of Motif of Slum and Life in it in Czech Media in 2010-2017

Kučerová, Zuzana January 2020 (has links)
The thesis deals with the media presentation of world slums in the Czech environment throughout 2010-2017. According to the latest estimates, more than one billion people live in slums today. It is safe to assume that the population in these slums will grow in the next decades. Most slums are located in the urban areas of developing states, which have higher urbanisation rates compared to the more developed countries. Slums are crowded places in cities where the residents live in substandard conditions that includes lack of drinking water, poor sanitation, lack of sewerage and health care and so on. The thesis focuses on the media coverage of five slums (Kibera, Dharavi, Khayelitsha, Ciudad Neza and Orangi Town), which rank among the biggest in the world. The work briefly summarizes the social construction of reality theory according to T. Berger and P. L. Luckmann, the media construct of reality and news value. It explains the concepts of slum, developing country, urbanisation, and the refugee crisis. It examines the texts by combining quantitative and qualitative content analysis. Quantitative content analysis is based on three research questions and six hypotheses. Newton Media database used for the research provided relevant contributions from newspapers, magazines and their internet mutations,...
