No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2008-12-11 / The Brazilian Retail Financial System is the theme of this dissertation and the objective is to identify if the growth of the critic mass of clients and businesses, necessary with the stabilization of the country, can be active in an organic way or be through fusions and/ or acquisitions. For this, it was sought out to understand to which point the many attempts of stabilizing the country, affected the performance of these banks in the periods of 1970/2008, considering that in 1986 the Plano Cruzado is introduced and that in 1994 the Plano Real of stabilization is introduced. At the same time the strategy adopted by banks in Brazil, including foreign ones, between them the Spanish, Portuguese, the Dutch ABN and the English HSBC are analyzed. The methodological focus of this research can be characterized as qualitative and descriptive, documental and historical. The utilization of the Delphi method allowed the establishment of possible scenarios, for the retail banks, in 5 years, as of 2009. It was verified that it was possible, depending on the economic conditions, for the growth of the critical mass to be done in an organic way. / O Sistema Financeiro Brasileiro de Varejo é o tema desta dissertação e o objetivo é identificar se o crescimento da massa crítica de clientes e negócios, necessário com a estabilização do País, poderá ser realizado de maneira orgânica ou terá que ser mediante fusões e / ou aquisições. Para isso, procurou-se entender até que ponto as diversas tentativas de estabilização do País,afetaram a atuação destes bancos nos períodos 1970/2008, considerando que em 1986 foi implementado o Plano Cruzado e em 1994 o Plano Real de estabilização. Ao mesmo tempo foi analisada a estratégia adotada pelos bancos no Brasil, inclusive os estrangeiros, entre eles os espanhóis, portugueses, o holandês ABN e o inglês HSBC. O enfoque metodológico desta pesquisa pode ser caracterizado como qualitativo e de caráter descritivo, documental e histórico. A utilização do método Delphi permitiu o estabelecimento do cenário possível, para os bancos de varejo, em cinco anos, a partir de 2009. Verificou-se ser possível, dependendo das condições econômicas, que o crescimento da massa crítica seja realizado de forma orgânica.
