Comparison of Realization Methods for the Morphological Filter with Their Applications

Chiu, Yun-ming 31 August 2006 (has links)
The morphological image processing can modify the shapes of objects very efficiently by structure elements. Thus, the morphology processing has recently been applied to industry auto-inspection and medical image processing successfully. In this thesis, we incestigate the efficient processing of morphological image processing by two approaches: quadtree approach and paralell approach. By the quadtree decomposition, any binary image can be decomposed into black and white square blocks with some fixed size of power of 2. Thus, dilation of the whole image can be accomplished by dilating individual decomposed square blocks. On the other hand, any binary image can be presented by bit per pixel basis. Thus, we can exploit the parallel on a personal computer to speed up the set oriented morphological image processing. Experiments have revealed that both approach are much faster than the direct method. The quadtree approach are most advantageous for large structure elements. Whereas, the parralel approach are the fastest for the usual applications.

Web-Based Distributed Computing Environment for Morphological Image Processing

Chen, Ying-Chung 10 July 2001 (has links)
¡@¡@Morphological image processing technique has been well applied to many image processing areas. However, its long computation time usually can¡¦t be accepted when run on a general purpose sequential computer. Instead of conventional image data representation, some special data structures have led to the development of efficient algorithms. ¡@¡@The quadtree data structure has been well applied to the field of computer vision such as image segmentation and compression. The quadtree with its hierarchical data structure are advantageous due to its ability to focus on the interesting subsets of the data. Thus, the quadtree data structure are particularly convenient for set operations. Therefore, the computation for morphology processing will be facilitated by using the quadtree data structure since the set operations are the basics of the morphology processing. ¡@¡@Although many fast morphological image processing methods have been presented, there is still a need for developing a distributed computing architecture for morphological processing. We propose a scheme direct connection for client to client to improve the data transfer efficiency. Also, the image data is compressed by the quadtree for the transmission efficiency. Due to the efficiency of the network connection and data compression, we have established an efficient web-based distributed work station for morphological image processing.

Efficient Implementation of Morphological Image Processing on Pentium Machines

Chen, Jau-Liang 06 August 2001 (has links)
Morphological image processing is especially useful in the applications of medical image processing, pattern recognition, and industry auto-inspection. Special hardware for morphological image processing are very expensive. On the other hand, the speed of software are too slow. The purpose of this paper is to speed up the software computations of morphological image processing by parallel processing on Pentium machine. The morphological operation is similar to digital convolution. We can realize our parallel morphological operation on the Pentium machine by two different methods. They are output-decomposition and input-decomposition methods, similar to the procedure of overlap-and-save and overlap-and-add respectively. The above methods implemented on Pentium machine are proved very efficient with 64-bits parallelism. Our experimental results demonstrated they are twice faster than the 32-bits parallelism method. In addition to the simulation and the real time experiments, a set of theoretical formulas are derived to analyze our methods and are checking the actual measured time quite well.

Realization Methods for the Quadtree Morphological Filter with Their Applications

Chen, Yung-lin 07 September 2011 (has links)
Quadtree algorithm and morphological image processing are combined in the proposed method in this paper. A new method is proposed to improve the previous pattern mapping method for faster processing. The previous pattern mapping method is a pattern mapping method by storing the tree pattern by string form, which is a pointless data structure. In the proposed method the tree pattern is saved in a point data structure. Therefore, the pointer tree can be applied to the quadtree immediately without the transforming time, which was required in the previous pattern mapping method. In this paper, the pointless quad tree work is modified to pointer quad tree to reduce the processing time. The modified algorithm is applied to circuit detection, image restoration, image segmentation and cell counting.

Σκόδρας, Ευάγγελος 03 July 2009 (has links)
Developing on-board automotive driver assistance systems aiming to alert drivers about possible collision with other vehicles has attracted a lot of attention lately. In these systems, robust and reliable vehicle detection is a critical step. In this work a vehicle detection system is developed based on video frames grabbed by a camera mounted on the vehicle. Vehicle detection is mainly based on the detection of its red rear-lights. First we detect all red pixels of the frame and create the corresponding binary image (mask). Then we detect the areas that possibly constitute vehicle’s rear-lights by performing morphological binary image processing. Based on that, we determine the boundary of the vehicle. To verify the presence of the vehicle in this area, we perform a symmetry test based on sub-image similarity. Finally, we present some experimental results and give directions for future improvements.

Αλεξανδρίδης, Ζαχαρίας 07 April 2011 (has links)
We solve the problem of sudoku using the educational robot LEGO Mindstorm NXT, made by LEGO. This educational robot doesn't have specific form but consists of interlinked plastics. We constructed a vehicle that is a variant from another work. This vehicle can move only forward and back. It has an arm that can move side to side and is equipped with a light sensor and a marker. The problem of sudoku is given to the robot in printed form on a A4 paper. The robot at first recognize the problem with the sensor, then it resolves it and finally writes the solution down by using the pen. To achieve this goal we implemented various algorithms. Specifically, we studied robotic algorithms such as metric and topological navigation. Moreover, to identify the printed problem we processed every captured image morphologically and finally to solve the sudoku instance we implemented and compared two methods, first-depth search and first-depth search with constraint propagation. We should mention that our code is written in Java for the lejOS firmware. The final code is capable of recognizing the numbers of the given problem with a success rate of 95%, solving most problems in less than a second and completing the cells on the paper with the correct numbers. Finally, we have developed an accompanying program that is usable for debugging purposes and for calibrating the robot. Even more, it can be used as education tool.

Estimation de cartes de profondeur à partir d’images stéréo et morphologie mathématique / Depth map estimation from stereo images and mathematical morphology

Bricola, Jean-Charles 19 October 2016 (has links)
In this thesis, we introduce new approaches dedicated to the computation of depth maps associated with a pair of stereo images. The main difficulty of this problem resides in the establishment of correspondences between the two stereoscopic images. Indeed, it is difficult to ascertain the relevance of matches occurring in homogeneous areas, whilst matches are infeasible for pixels occluded in one of the stereo views. In order to handle these two problems, our methods are composed of two steps. First, we search for reliable depth measures, by comparing the two images of the stereo pair with the help of their associated segmentations. The analysis of image superimposition costs, on a regional basis and across multiple scales, allows us to perform relevant cost aggregations, from which we deduce accurate disparity measures. Furthermore, this analysis facilitates the detection of the reference image areas, which are potentially occluded in the other image of the stereo pair. Second, an interpolation mechanism is devoted to the estimation of depth values, where no correspondence could have been established. The manuscript is divided into two parts: the first will allow the reader to become familiar with the problems and issues frequently encountered when analysing stereo images. A brief introduction to morphological image processing is also provided. In the second part, our algorithms to the computation of depth maps are introduced, detailed and evaluated.
