Parametric analysis of a small circular phased-array radar antenna

Williamsen, Erik Martin 30 April 2011 (has links)
Presented is a study and analysis of a small circular phased array antenna designed to achieve narrow beamwidths, while maintaining full 360 degree area coverage with no moving parts, small size, inexpensive construction, and minimal power usage. Existing methods of producing narrow beamwidths using patch based design are analyzed for their applicability given the design restrictions. A mathematical construct of the system is then developed and used to help generate a design that is then simulated using Ansoft's HFSS electromagnetic simulation program. Various parameters are varied including overall radius and excitation element design and the results are analyzed against the desired response. The best results are then presented for future consideration.
