The relation of adult attachment security to changes in maternal parenting behaviors : a parenting intervention study

Burton, Rosalinda Strano 05 October 2011 (has links)
The goal of the current study was to examine the impact of mothers’ attachment classification on their ability to change their parenting beliefs and behaviors over the course of a parenting intervention program. Results indicated that in large part, this study did not support the idea that secure mothers would benefit more from a parenting intervention program than insecure mothers. However, treatment group placement was found to moderate the extent to which attachment security and time interact on level of permissiveness. Specifically, insecure mothers in the seminar plus hands-on condition significantly decreased in their permissiveness over time. Thus, insecure individuals benefit from parenting intervention programs when they have the opportunity to practice as well as learn the material presented to them. / text

Ärligt talat så har jag det som krävs för att vara en bra förälder! : En studie om hur föräldrars generella hälsotillstånd påverkar den upplevda föräldrakompetensen

Larsson, Anna, Wikstrand, Linda January 2014 (has links)
Background: Good health at community and individual levels are key policy priorities. These priorities can be shown through supporting parents about various different healthy lifestyle choices. In order to know where interventions are needed, it is of interest to study how parents generally feel and how they perceive their parenting. Aim: To study how parents rate their own health and parenting skills, and examine whether there is any correlation between perceived general health and perceived parental competence.  Further, this study will show whether there is a correlation between rate of perceived general health and rate of perceived parental competence when it comes to gender. Method: 64 questionnaires were collected at strategic open kindergartens in the municipality of Uppsala. The questionnaires were distributed to the parents present and who chose to participate in this study. Main result: The result of this study shows that parents have a high rate of general health. A weak correlation between rate of perceived general health and rate of perceived parental competence were found. However a clear correlation between rate of perceived general health and rate of perceived parental competence could be seen of fathers, while the mothers are unrelated. Conclusion:  Parents in Uppsala seems to feel generally well and believe they are capable parents. It also appears that these two factors are interrelated so that parents who are doing well also generally feel better in their parenting. More and major studies are needed to obtain a general and trustworthy result.

Further development of the parenting belief questionnaire

Fitch, Jenelle C. January 2002 (has links)
The psychometric properties of the Parenting Beliefs Questionnaire (PBQ) were further explored. College students (176 males and 342 females) who were not parents completed the measure. Results of a series of principle components factor analyses with varimax rotation suggested retaining a two-factor solution accounting for 35.5% of the variance. Factor I measured the Promotion of Interpersonal Behaviors in children (alpha = .87), while Factor 2 assessed the Promotion of Autonomy in children (alpha = .73). A one-way MANOVA was employed to examine potential gender differences in participants' responses to the PBQ factors. A main effect was discovered whereby females rated both factors higher than males. Limitations of this study and the PBQ were discussed as were recommendations for future research and counseling. / Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services
