I seek to understand specifically what sense effects keep moving questions such as: Do you work or only teach classes? asked regularly to the professors. A question that is immediately imposed: what is the professor image and its professional attributions that is being built? We understand that the specialized magazines consumed by educators are an important mass media support to built the construction and diffusion of the professor and his work speech. For that reason, to understand what are the images that keep moving about the professor image and the professor activities, I opt to develop this research analyzing the speeches of two important magazines, ABCeducatio and PRESENÇA Pedagógica, education specialized publication, national circulation, considered in a institutionalized field, what entails the constraint´s recognition of its own gender mass media. It was analyzed the covers, the editorial and some excerpts of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 editions as well as some clippings and respective images, considered relevant for this research goal. On the theoretical viewpoint, this work is anchored in three slopes: (i) on the language studies, on the developed perspective by Maingueneau (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008); (ii) on the studies towards to the work issue, from Schwartz (2007 e 2010) and Sennett (2007); (iii) on the studies that assume a critical position about education, based specifically in Giroux (1997) and Gentili (2008). From the global semantics study, proposed by Maingueneau (1984/2005), according all the plans are interconnected in its dimensions multiplicity, it was possible to observe the discursive working of the selected magazine. The ABCeducatio presents a more didactic character, its interlocutor does not have to be a reader/educator to comprehend the texts that circulate on it, differently to the ones at the PRESENÇA Pedagógica, that brings specialized articles, towards to the educational research, demanding its interlocutor to have an encyclopedic knowledge, that includes other knowledge areas, such as arts and literature. From the ethé apprehend of the analyzed magazines it was possible to gather the professor image produced on them: the ABCeducatio magazine has a oscillating presentation, sometimes as a missionary, others as a market service operator, neoliberal education hostage. In the PRESENÇA Pedagógica magazine, the professor image is more connected to the education issues towards to research, to the encyclopedic acknowledgments, therefore a reflexive professor / Uma das preocupações mais recentes na área de estudos da linguagem consiste em apreender os efeitos de sentido veiculados por discursos que falam do trabalho nas mais diferentes áreas do conhecimento: empresarial/administrativa, médica, engenharia, jurídica, etc. Nesse contexto, a presente pesquisa tem como objetivo geral depreender os efeitos de sentido sobre o trabalho do professor, muitas vezes implícitos na seguinte pergunta Você trabalha ou só dá aulas ? Essa pergunta desencadeia outra: que imagem de professor e de suas atribuições profissionais está sendo construída na mídia impressa contemporânea, mais especificamente, em revistas especializadas direcionadas a educadores? Por isso, a opção por estudar os discursos de duas importantes revistas de circulação nacional, ABCeducatio e PRESENÇA Pedagógica, das quais foram analisadas capas e editoriais das edições de 2006-2008, assim como alguns recortes de artigos e respectivas imagens, relevantes para o objetivo da pesquisa. Do ponto de vista teórico, este trabalho está ancorado em três vertentes: (i) nos estudos da linguagem, na perspectiva desenvolvida por Maingueneau (1984, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008); (ii) nos estudos voltados para questões de trabalho, a partir de contribuições de Schwartz (2007 e 2010) e Sennett (2007); (iii) nos estudos que assumem uma posição crítica sobre a educação, baseados especificamente em Giroux (1997) e Gentili (2008). O funcionamento discursivo das revistas indica que a ABCeducatio apresenta um caráter mais didático, que não exige de seu coenunciador o status de leitor/educador, diferentemente daqueles da PRESENÇA Pedagógica, que trazem artigos especializados, voltados à pesquisa educacional, exigindo do coenunciador um conhecimento enciclopédico que inclui outras áreas do conhecimento, como artes plásticas e literatura. A partir da depreensão dos ethé das revistas, foi possível resgatar a imagem de professor nelas produzidas: na ABCeducatio, o professor ora é visto como um missionário, ora como um operador a serviço do mercado, refém da educação neoliberal, enquanto na PRESENÇA Pedagógica, o professor é visto como um pesquisador voltado para questões educacionais, caracterizando-se como um professor reflexivo
